I Double Dog Dare You

Katie McManus (business strategist and money-mindset coach) delivers a live YouTube talk urging viewers to "dream bigger" in life and business. She shares a personal, slightly-embarrassing big dream (hosting a national TV show highlighting innovative small businesses) and contrasts baseline financial needs with aspirational income goals (e.g., $300K–$1M), arguing that big goals can be reverse-engineered through offers and diversified income. The talk also addresses scarcity narratives and economic worry, invites listeners to book a "generate income strategy" call, and announces an 11-week "Dream Bigger" live series and related book work.

Hello and good evening, everyone. I'm Katie McManus, business strategist and money mindset coach, coming to you live, wanting to talk about how important it is for you to dream bigger. Bigger in your life, in your business, in any realm that you belong in. A little housekeeping before we dive right in. I am going live on the Facebooks, on LinkedIn, on YouTube, and over on Instagram. I do love these to be interactive if you wanted to. So if you want it to be. So if you have any questions about what I'm talking about, if you want to share your big dream or just kind of add to the conversation, please do. I like to just preface that with sometimes the technology doesn't work with us and I don't see the comments in real time. So if you comment and I don't, like, share it or, you know, say hi, you either said something really, really uncomfortable and I didn't want to do it. Most people don't do that. Or. Or you just didn't appear to me because the technology failed us. Okay? So as for that, I want to dive right into this because this is something that I am so passionate about, and this is something that I bang on about with my clients all day, every day. And I really at this. At the end of this, actually, throughout this, I'm going to double dog dare you to start thinking about that bigger dream that you can start building towards. All right? Not the thing that your brain thinks is realistic. Okay? We're not doing that because that is realistic is a limitation that your brain puts in place to protect you from potentially embarrassing yourself. And here's the deal, though. You can prioritize not embarrassing yourself and live a pretty okay life, or you can prioritize actually going for what you want. Okay? That is your option. So I want to start just kind of outing myself for having kind of an embarrassing dream. I shared about this in the post describing this live. But one of my. One of my big dreams is I actually want to have a national TV show. I want to have a national TV show where. Where I travel the country and I go and I interview small business owners who are doing interesting things, who are solving, like, weird problems that we never would have thought of and who are having a positive impact on the world and having a positive impact on the community. This show that I want to have. If you're, if like you want to put this show on the television, I'm ready to do this now. Although I do have a, a several year plan to do it if you're not willing to start me right now. I'm patient. I know, but the show, like my dream for it is a. To bring a ton of awareness to small businesses that are doing incredible things and just aren't getting the credit and the visibility for it. And also to spark ideas for entrepreneurs and new business owners across the country. Spark ideas of, oh my God, if they're solving that problem in that way, maybe I can solve this problem in this way and figure out how to monetize it. Throughout the show. I would love to be able to kind of break down, you know, what the business model is and how it became so successful. And I just, I think it would be so incredible to be able to do that. It's probably be like a weekly show and I don't know, I just. That's. That's my dream. That is my absolute dream. And I have to say I'm a little embarrassed admitting that. And I really only admitted it to anyone in the last year or so. And it's funny, when you talk about something that you really want to do or something that like, you're enamored with, it's almost like talking about a crush, right? You get a little shy and you like, your face gets a little red and you, like, get a little uncomfortable, but you're happy. You're happy talking about it. You get excited talking about it. This is the thing that we miss out on, this bubbly energy that we get when we talk about a goal that we're really excited for. This is what we miss out on when we start trying to make business plans around what we think is realistic, right? Because what we think is realistic, like I just said, is really just our brain saying, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. If you go bigger than this, and that's dangerous, this is our safety zone, okay? This is our realistic safety zone. You can get to this big, but if you get any bigger than that, like, that's. No, no, no. The things you'd have to do to get bigger than this are just too scary. This is your realistic zone, okay? And like I said, you can absolutely stay within that zone. That is your prerogative. But I, I just threw my pen personally. Want more for you. I want more for you. And I bet you want more for you. There's this funny thing that happens when I start with A client or it actually happens before we start, when we're on our strategy call, I ask them, you know, how much money do you want to make in a year? And they always give two answers. And it's so funny. I. Without fail, people give two answers even when they've heard me say that on lives and stuff. They'll say, I know, I know you say this, but I'm going to give you two answers. The first answer is always the like, well, I'd be able to pay my rent and afford food and I'd be able to buy my kids shoes and everything else would be tight, but we'd be able to survive if I made this amount of money. And as you know, that's not the answer I'm looking for. I don't care about that answer. I think it's important for people to know what their baseline is. But that's not a goal. That's absolutely not a goal. What I'm asking for is the second number. Now, when the person on the phone with me goes to give this number, without fail, their voice gets a little quieter and they're a little more hesitant because this number, the amount of money that they want to make in a year just feels so much bigger than they feel like they have any right to say. And oftentimes they have this fear that if they dare to say that, they'll seem greedy, like they want more than their fair share of the pie, Right? And then they'll say it and it's like $300,000. Like, I know you're going to tell me it's not possible for me, and it's like, yeah, absolutely, that's possible for you. You know, any financial goal you have is reverse engineer, right? And the beauty of doing this in a business setting where you're the owner of the business and you're creating the product and the service and all these things, is all you have to figure out is what is the offer that is worth? Like, worth it enough to your ideal clients for you to be able to go and sell it to enough clients for you to reach that income goal? That's it. That's it. And it takes a couple of tries. Absolutely. It can actually take more than a couple of tries. Right. But if you have a big dream, if you have a massive income goal, if you have an income goal of $1 million a year, I had a group call today with a bunch of my new business owners, and several of them have a goal of a million dollars. Right. And for some of them, because of the things that they do, it's actually pretty realistic with just them doing the thing. For others, like for a couple of my clients who are coaches, you know, for instance, getting to a million dollars in a year just doing coaching, that's hard. I will own that. You need to augment your income streams, right? You're going to need to do some workshops, maybe some paid speaking gigs. You might want to do some writing. You know, there's so many different ways that you can augment your income streams. Right? But it's absolutely possible. But here's the thing. If you don't say that you want to make a million dollars in a year, if you don't say it, if you just say, no, no, no, like, I. I want to make $150,000 a year, I can live off of that. I can, you know, put in my retirement, and I can live a fairly decent life with $150,000 a year. That's what you're going to get. You're not going to accidentally, you know, make it to 300,000 or 500,000. You're not going to trip and fall and plop yourself in the middle of a year where you've made a million dollars. Okay? That's not going to happen. Right. Because you started with, this is the end goal in mind. I want to make $150,000. And we designed the business around that. So whatever it is, whatever it is that you daydream about, the things that you want more than anything, full permission to start going for it, okay? And I want to name that. You know, if you're in my world, you're probably liberal. I tend to attract that because I'm very open about my political beliefs, you know, and I just want to own that we're in a very, very scarcity mindset kind of world right now, all right? There's a lot of fear, there's a lot of hesitancy about, like, what's coming in the future, a lot of worries. And I just want to acknowledge that you're probably seeing this and being like, okay, that sounds nice, but realistically, in the world that we live in, is it actually going to be possible? And it's something that I struggle with as well. I just want to own that I'm not going to blow past this. It's hard to believe in a bigger dream when you're constantly bombarded with, things are expensive, things are going to get more expensive, this is going to get harder, the middle class is disappearing, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. But here's the thing. None of those things takes away your control over your actions. None of it takes away your creativity, your skills, your ability to help clients. None of that. None of the things in the world takes any of those things away from you. You are fully in control around the actions that you take in your business. You are fully in control of how much you leverage your creativity and resources to grow this business. Okay? You are not a victim of the world. You are actually a key part of it. And we need you. We need you to step into your brilliance, into your calling, into the work that you doing is actually your gift to the world. We need you to do that part. Okay? I'm a firm believer that if everyone. And I know, like, a lot of people are like, well, if everyone did this, then, like, we wouldn't have factory workers, guys, like, if. If everyone were stepping into their absolute genius brilliance and we're doing work that lit them up, I'm pretty sure we could freaking figure out how to have that shit automated, right? Like, please can. Instead of, instead of having AI that can, like, create bad content, can someone please create an AI that'll do my laundry for me? But, I mean, think about it. Think of all the incredible inventors who are stuck, like, giving 50 hours of their week to a corporate job and don't have the bandwidth to start solving a problem like that, right? Think of, Think of the gift that you could bring to the world if you simply gave yourself permission to dream big and invested the time and money and energy to actually go after it. That the world would be a different place. An absolute different place. And again, I know it's hard to believe in this when there's so, so much messaging that it's gonna be hard, right? But here's the thing that I want you to remember. Some of the most successful businesses, I'm talking Disney, Uber. And I. I normally have a whole list at my fingertips when I go into this point, but I'm forgetting them. It's been a long day. Anyway, Disney, Uber. There are so many massively successful businesses that were started during the Great depression, during the 08 recession, right? The housing collapse, during the pandemic, right? Just because economic times get hard does not mean that it's a bad time to start a business. It actually means that it's a better time to start a business, right? Because coming out of it, people want to. They're looking for all these, you know, smaller businesses to invest in, right? And just because we're going into bad times doesn't mean that Your clients who are out there, who still need support doesn't mean that they're just going to go without support. Right? They still need someone to help them get divorced. God, that was a dark one. They still need people to help them find jobs. They still need copywriters to do stuff for their website. They still need social, social media marketers. Your clients are still out there and they will still need to hire someone like you. And really, what'll happen if you don't step into your role, into your calling, and start doing this work sooner rather than later? Those clients who are karmically destined for you, who are meant to work with you, wind up working with someone else, and they won't be as happy and they won't get the same results they'll get with you. Right. I'm a firm believer that, like, it's almost like, not necessarily like soulmates, but there are people that we just gel with. Right? And your people are out there and they're waiting for you. So I double dog dare you start dreaming bigger. If there's something that you want to do and you've always thought, well, that's dumb, no one's going to give me a shot at that, like, oh, God, how embarrassing. I'm never going to tell anyone this. Tell me. I want to know. And I think you can do it. And if you want help doing it, at least the beginning stages of it, and you want to start a business, then I invite you to go to my bio and book a generate income strategy call with me. Okay, so in this call, what we'll do is we'll look at this bigger dream. And what we'll do is we'll break it down into smaller steps that you can take that are realistic for where you are right now. We'll look at any obstacles that are in the way that are keeping you from doing this on your own. And then if it's a fit for both of us, then we can talk about different ways to work together. Okay? But I have to warn you, I only work with clients who want to go out there and make a difference, who want to not only make their own lives better dramatically, but who want to have positive impact in their families and their communities and in the world. Okay? So if that's you, I. I would love to talk to you. I will be going live tomorrow talking about your favorite self. I have just started talking about. This is something I'm actually writing a book on. It's my model to help you stay motivated without shaming yourself and feeling like garbage and being constantly stressed out for deadlines. It's a lot of fun. I hope you'll join me. It's at 3pm Eastern and I will be doing this Dream Bigger Live every Wednesday for the next 11 weeks. So I hope you'll join in and be a regular audience member. And if you have any questions or any topics that you want me to touch on in this whole Dream Bigger umbrella, then please message me. I am so open to feedback and hello Steve and Margaret and Tito. Welcome over on Instagram. I hope you've enjoyed this everyone. I am so happy to have gone live with you tonight. I am gonna go and get some sleep. It's been a long week so far. Isn't it like extra long when you go from like a two day week to back to a five day week? I just feel like we needed less days this week just to ease herself that kid. Anyway, thank you for being here with me. I hope you have an amazing rest of your week and I will see you all soon. Bye.
