I said something rude to a client- and here’s what happened… #entrepreneurship #businesscoaching

Katie McManus told a client she had "bored housewife pricing" and was undercharging. The client took it as a wake-up call. Low prices attract hobbyists, not serious clients, so raising rates filters for better fits.

A couple weeks ago, I said something really rude to a client, and it wasn't like, like calling her names or anything, but like, one of the problems that she keeps running into is that she is undercharging for her work. Okay? She's a brilliant, brilliant consultant. I won't say more specifics about that because I don't want to out her, but she's undercharging and she has been undercharging. It doesn't really matter how much we work through relationship with money and coming up with new packages. Like, she's still in her head about her pric. So the rude thing, I told her, I will tell you in a second, but I said it, and I had this moment of panic, like, oh, my God, did I go too far? And it was amazing. Cause she was like, oh, my God, you're right. You're 100% right. That's exactly what I'm doing here. And fast forward like a week and a half to our session last Friday, and I log into Zoom, and, you know, we're chatting and she's like, I have to tell you, you saying that thing to me, which what I said to her was, you have bored housewife pricing. You're pricing your services as if you're a bored housewife and you don't have to worry about money. And it's just like, you're just doing this for fun, and it's not that big of a deal. That was the thing I told her, and she said, you know, I needed to hear that because it was 100% spot on. And so I share this with you in case you need to hear it too. Do you have board housewife pricing? Are you pricing yourself way beneath what other people in your industry are doing because you just don't feel confident enough? Because here's the thing. Because confidence and quality are communicated through how much you charge. And if you're undercharging for your services, what you're communicating is that you're not that confident and that the quality of what you do is not that good. And if you have bored housewife pricing, if you're charging the amount, that's giving the impression that, like, you're just doing this for funsies. It's not that big of a deal. Like, you don't really need the money. You're not going to attract your ideal clients. You're going to attract hobby clients, clients who treat working with you like it's a hobby. And that's great if you want that. But if you want to attract clients who really resonate with you, who take your work seriously, who aren't a pain in the butt, then you need to raise your rates.
