Katie McManus lays out a fractional advisor model for consultants: take 3-4 clients at $7,000/month for 15-20 hours a week and hit $300,000 a year, or 2 clients at $20,000/month for less time and make $480,000. The key is multi-month retainers and constant LinkedIn marketing to replace clients as they leave.

If you're a specialist in something and you want to quit your corporate job to do some consulting work, here is one of the models that you can use to start your business so that you can make $300,000 or more per year. And hi, I help ADHD business owners make more money in less time with your distraction by helping you discover your profitable niche. Design an offer that actually sells and learn to market and sell it without wanting to vomit, without using a cookie cutter. One Size fits All Method Katie I'm Katie McManus, business strategist and money mindset coach. Yesterday I covered the more traditional consulting model where you're working for one client at a time, basically working full time in the business. And today I'm going to show you another one. I actually prefer this model more than the traditional way. A it gives you more stability in your income because you're working with multiple clients at a time and B if you're a strategic thinker, if you really enjoy the high level work and don't want to be doing a lot of the grunt work, this is the model for you. So in this consulting model, instead of being a boots on the ground consultant where you're doing the work, you're going to be more of a fractional advisor for the business. And because you're a fractional advisor, you're not going to be doing full time work for each client. So what I always recommend is you want to have your clients commit to three to six months or more of working with you in your retainer. You can include anywhere from 5 to 10 hours of work per week, focusing on that high level strategy and touching base with stakeholders within the business. Now I have clients who do this and they charge between 7 to 20 thousand dollars per month. Now of course this depends on your expertise, your ideal client's problems and how you're going to help them solve them, and of course your experience. But let's do the math, shall we? So if you're carrying three to four clients and they're all paying you $7,000 a month and you're doing about five hours of work per week per client, then you, my friend, will only be working 15 to 20 hours a week doing client work and making just of $300,000 a year. Likewise, if you decide to charge more, if you're offering like a higher level experience, you're solving a really expensive problem for them. You could take on two clients a month, okay, and charge $20,000 per month per client and work five to 10 hours per week with each client and that would be $40,000 a month and that would land you each year at about $480,000. Now the beauty of this is that like if you complete with one client, you still have one or more other clients who are continuing to work with you. So you're not as vulnerable as you are in model number one of consulting. But the key to making this successful, like the first model of consulting, which you can check out, it's my last video on this, is you need to continually market your services, okay? Because you want to be able to lock in that next client when you know that that first client is completing. And to do so, you just have to be consistent on social media. And I recommend LinkedIn for this because this is where these kinds of clients hang out. And if you want help building a fractional advisor model business, then Hi, I'm Katie McManus.
