It'll work- but I have no idea how...

Katie McManus argues that self-belief, not a detailed plan, predicts whether you'll succeed in business. She scaled her coaching business to six figures and shares how clients like Lauren Lefkowitz went full-time in months by raising prices and trusting they could pull it off.

Foreign. Hello, I'm Katie McManus, business strategist and money mindset coach. Thank you for joining. Just gonna open up my comments. So I'm going live to the Facebooks, to LinkedIn, to YouTube and to Twitter. And today I want to talk about this key ingredient to running a successful business. And it's something that actually has to happen before you even take action on running a business. It is. You have to believe in yourself. Okay? Like, it sounds so basic and maybe a little woo woo to a lot of people, but let me tell you, I have worked with countless clients. I have worked with so many human beings. I've worked with people who come from all over the world, who come from all different backgrounds, who are in like a gazillion different aspects of what they do. Maybe not a gazillion, that's an exaggeration, but a lot of different aspects of what they do. And I can tell you the number one measurement or predictable variable or variable that makes me able to predict their success, however you say that in a concise and understandable way, is that they come to me and when in the first couple conversations, there's something in them that says, I know I can do this. I know that I'll be massively successful at this. I just need to figure out the how, okay? I just need to get past this one thing and I know I can be good at this. There's this innate knowing that if they act on this, if they go forth and they do this thing, that they will be massively successful. That is the number one marker for success that I look for in my potential clients. It's something that takes a great deal of faith, right? Because you don't have any proof that this is going to work out, right? When you're first starting, you have no proof that this is going to work out. Now, the beautiful thing about having that deep level of belief that you can do this and it's going to work out and you're going to be successful is that when you are building your business on that kind of foundation, you are so much more open to pivoting, to changing gears, to throwing one plan out and starting on a new one, right? Because, you know, it's just a matter of finding the right way to do it, right? You know that you're going to be successful at this. It's just a matter of throwing spaghetti at the wall and seeing what is going to stick. Okay? I, I remember saying this myself when I first started my coaching business and, you know, gaining a little Bit of traction, but not a ton. And like, you know, it's still hard. Yeah. Like the first couple years of running any business is going to, they're going to be difficult. Okay. A given. But I remember saying to, I think pretty much everyone, like, yeah, like, I know, I know I'm going to be really good at this. I know I'm going to be successful doing this. And the way I felt it was, it was like knowledge that was like deep in my bones and deep in my chest. Right. It was just there. It was just like this knowing and this certainty that if I stuck with this long enough and if I threw enough different kinds of noodles at the wall to see what would stick, there would be something that would click, There'd be something that would like barrel past all the bullshit and actually make this business successful. And I can tell you, like, it's true. It happened. It happened. You know, my business, I don't tend to like to talk about the success levels of my business because my success levels don't matter to you. They shouldn't. Right. The success levels of my clients should matter to you. But I can say like, that belief system did drive me through to create a multiple six figure coaching business. Just coaching, Just doing coaching. Right. I'm at the point now where I'm branching out and starting other businesses, training companies, events companies, different ways to scale the impact that I already bring to the world. Super excited. I'm going to be bringing a lot of information on all these things to you all soon. But I wanted to talk about this a little bit today because it's Sunday. It's a day where we kind of like rest and reflect and get our brains organized for the week to come. So talking about belief, right? The reason belief is so powerful when it comes to starting a business and understanding that you have it in you to go out and be successful doing this. The reason belief is so powerful is because it instigates action, right? It instigates action, right? If you think that you're a terrible baker, are you likely to try to bake a cake for your friend's birthday? Probably not. If you believe that everything that you put your hands on in the kitchen, like turns to crap, burns, tastes terrible, you're probably not going to do something that involves you cooking something for other people, right? Because you don't believe that you can do it. Right. Likewise, if you don't believe that you can, for instance, lose weight, if that is something that matters to you. If you don't believe that you can do it, chances are you're not going to do it, right? Because if you don't believe that you can lose weight, then what does it matter what you eat? What does it matter how many times you go to the gym each week, right? If you don't believe that you can run an eight minute mile, if you don't believe that's possible for you, there's no fucking way you're going out and training and pushing yourself and making yourself get there, right? Because you're never going to do it. Like in your brain you're going to believe it's just not possible for you. Now the converse is also true, right? If you believe that you can run an eight minute mile, you're far more likely to be able to do it. I'm not saying you're guaranteed to do it because it's pretty fast and people have different length legs, right? Um, actually I say that. But Kevin Hart is a really short man and he runs fast, he's a fast runner. Um, I don't know if you've seen that video of him on YouTube where he like challenges Usain Bolt to a race, but he like gives himself a massive head start, but he's still really fast and they're running on stand. So the key to doing anything is just believing that you can be successful at it, right? You're never going to be able to predict how that success is going to come. I wish. Shoot. You know, while I was moving, because I was packing over the last few weeks and I moved last weekend, I came across this chart that I had drawn up for myself when I was first starting my coaching business. And I was convinced that I was just going to raise my rates like every four to six months. And I predicted exactly how many clients I would get each month and how much I would charge them. And I added it all up because I was trying to gauge like, you know, how many clients I could carry and how many group programs I'd have to run. And the math was so adorable because you could see, like, I was so nervous about raising my rates for from like $550 a month to $650 a month to $750 a month until all, you know, at the end of the day I was making $950 a month per client per month and how many clients I planned on having at those rates. And like, cool. What, what would I be able to afford in my business once I hit certain income markers? Can I just tell you, like, that's not how my My business grew, right? I wrote it all on paper. And that is not anything near what happened, right? I got to a certain point in my business where I realized. And this happened very early on, right? Where I realized that if I kept charging small amounts for coaching, I would keep attracting clients who weren't willing to do the work, right? And if you were an early client of mine and you spent that and you did the work, I'm not talking about you, but I am talking about a bunch of other clients who just showed up and liked yakking at me for a couple hours, you know, every month. It was. It wasn't what I wanted for my business. I realized very early on that one of the ways to get people to actually pony up and do the actions is to have them have some skin in the game, right? And so here I had this chart, like, I knew my business would be successful, right? I had this chart of exactly how, like, the math would add up and all the things and how, like, it would determine what lifestyle I could live. And I blew past it. And I completely, like, bypassed all of that because there were other factors that came in, namely my. My client's commitment to the work when they paid more for doing the work. And so, like, that faith that things were going to work out, like I was going to be able to do this. There was just this knowing in my body and my soul and my spirit and my mind and all whatever you consider a thing that can do, thinking and have knowledge, it was all on board that I can be successful at this. This will go well. And I found a lot of different venues, a lot of different ways to make that true, right? And I wasn't. I wasn't attached. Here's the other thing about believing that it will work out regardless of everything, is you let go of this attachment of how it's going to happen, right? When we get attached to the. How things kind of go crappy, you know, there's like, the metaphor of. Of sitting in a room where. Where there's, like, a mouse running around and, like, setting a trap in the center of the room and just sitting there and staring at the trap and just, like, waiting for the mouse, but meanwhile, it's running around behind you. You know, we think that one thing that we determine is going to, like, lead to our success is going to be how it's going to happen. It never is. It never is. I speak from my own experience and on behalf of all of my clients. It never happens that way. I have one client, Lauren, she's Incredible. She's an incredible executive coach. If you're looking for an executive coach, you should reach out to her. Lauren Lefkowitz. When she started working with me, her goal was to start a side hustle coaching business and then like in three to five years to take it time. Three to five years. Like that was the, the timeline that she was allowing herself to be successful. Fast forward, we started in January. Fast forward to like May or June. She was doing her last day at her job because, you know, she was able to go full time on her coaching business then. But there was this innate belief she had that she would be really good at this and that she'd be successful. And like, you just don't know how things are going to happen. So I actually pulled some cards from my Mystic Monday's deck for this little live. I love this deck. It's just absolutely beautiful. Sometimes I pull cards right before I do a live to like, help me figure out what to go live on. Sometimes I'm open about it and sometimes I don't tell you. That's what I'm basing it off of. So this live is a little different. I had decided on the topic, I had written it out, I had done everything, and last minute I pulled some cards. These are good cards. I'm gonna read them to you. So the first one is the star, which isn't that pretty? I just love this deck. Also, don't painting mine to my manicure because I do not know how to paint my own nails. I just paint my fingertips and then I hope that the, the nail polish comes off the skin. Let me see. Sims. Oh, you know, Mystic Mondays. Yes, it is a wonderful deck. Has better cards. Yeah, no, I love it. Okay, so I'm gonna read the star to you. Okay. So the star is an Aquarius, which I believe Saturn is in Aquarius right now, which is apparent. Apparently a big deal. I'm not, I'm not terribly into astrology, but I, I was talking about it with my people the other day. Anyway, so the star represents healing, inspiration and serenity. The universe has your back. This is a period of healing, inspiration and serenity. You can trust in yourself and forces beyond you, lending a helping hand wherever you need it. You've done the work, healed old wounds, and are ready to step into the spotlight to show off your many talents. Let your freak flag fly. Others are drawn to your authenticity, creative spirit, and individuality. Once you've accepted yourself for exactly who you are, you've opened the door to allow others to see how Special you are. Let me see. What makes you different is also what makes you stand out. Simply put, you are flawless. Look to your North Star and let it guide you toward your highest good. Your stardust is infectious and others will be inspired by your spirit. The world is ready for your transformation into the star that you are all that you always knew you were. So see, like this first card, like all about belief. It's all about all that and in like being allowed to trust in yourself. Okay, I'm all for it. Okay, so the next one was the world and I pulled it and it was upside down. And that is significant in. In cards. So I'm going to read the upside down one. So the world is in Saturn, which actually Saturn and Aquarius. I just made that connection. So yeah, this is a very timely poll. Funny how that works. Okay, so the world upside down represents the final stretch, impediment and hindrance. Okay, so close. The finish line is just within your reach. The world reversed indicates that there is a delay in reaching your goals and you need to take highly concentrated action to make it happen. It's easy to lose hope and you may be feeling discouraged since your goals are taking longer to reach than you expected. It's easy to take shortcuts. However, that could lead to unforeseen repercussions. Nonetheless, you are in the final stretch. So don't give up now. The world can give you the green light to finish up, but it can also mean you need to tie up some loose ends. They there may also be a lack of closure. Holding on to past relationships and memories. Notice where the world falls in your spread to receive confirmation on how to reach this closure that you speak. So yeah, so when your belief wavers, you have to just remember you are. You're in it. You're doing this. You're doing this. There are some things that you still have to clean up, but like just the main message here is do not lose hope. Do not lose that belief because it's not going to be easy to start a business, right? We have to be willing to do the work. And the world tells us like this is the work. You have to do the work right in front of you. And anything you have to clean up any messes you've made along the way. Now the final one was the Ace of Swords, which I just love. I just love the colors here. I mean, they're not my colors. They would completely clash with me. But like, they're just so beautiful. So the Ace of Swords represents clarity, pure power and breakthrough. Okay. Cutting straight through the. The Ace of Swords delivers truth and clarity in realistic ways. Your potential is at an all time high. Claiming your personal power, you're able to cut through the noise and clearly see the path that you want to take. Your mind is razor sharp and able to handle any task that comes your way. After experimenting experiencing mental blocks, you are now at the point of a breakthrough with your experiences. You are armed with a new worldview and a perspective that allows you to access your creativity in a strategic way. Truth seeker, you are prepared to fight for justice with the fire and intensity of your sharp intellect. With great power comes great responsibility. Wield your sword with care as it carries plenty of influence. So yeah, I mean just, I love this. I mean all the breakthroughs that come through when you believe that you're on the right path and you believe that you can do this, like that is exactly what I'm talking about here. And also it does take that courage to say, I know, I know best. I'm just going to trust my intuition. I'm going to find the clarity and I'm going to take action here. Let me see. Jonathan. Very cool. That star card happens to be what a lot of trusted voices have been telling me lately. Eerie to hear it here. Jonathan. I'm a big believer that there are no coincidences. So welcome. I'm glad it resonated and tell me what comes of it. I, I'm also a big believer that like whatever cards I pull are meant for the people who will end up watching. So if you're watching and that resonated with you, I would love it if you could put in the comments or DM it to me, you know, what's going on in your life. I'm not like an official tarot card reader, but I do enjoy playing with them and I do believe that they're just. No, no coincidence. What are the coincidences when it comes to that? Anyway, so here, here's your action item today. Whatever it is that you believe that you can do. Running for office, starting a business, getting the girl, getting the guy, building, building a she shed, whatever it is that you believe that you can do and be successful at. And we go and take one action today. One action. Whatever it is, do something that will move you closer to that goal. If it's starting a business, you can reach out to someone like me and say, hey listen, I want to start a business. I don't know how. Can you help me? Yes, I can. If you. It's on the more personal side. Maybe seek out some guidance from some friends and people that really know you, love you and have your interests in mind. And if it's something creative, just. Just go buy the stuff that you need it or get a plan or make a plan or make it to do list. I don't know, like, it depends on the project. But go and do something, okay? You won't regret it. And the only way for you to prove that you're right about yourself and to prove that your belief is found, is founded in reality, is to go and prove yourself right? That's it. So with that, go and be strong this week, my friends. I. Oops. I. Hold on. My thing is. There we go. I will be going live every single day this week. So I look forward to seeing you. And if you have any topics that you want me to go live on, then please DM them to me because I am all about crowdsourcing content. Anyway, I'm Katie McManus, Disney strategist, money mindset coach. Thank you for joining. I hope you have an incredible Sunday and I will see you all tomorrow. Oh, and Rajesh. Oh, thank you. And Jonathan and Sam's, thank you all for joining. I hope you enjoyed. All right, bye, everyone.
