Foreign. Hello and welcome. I'm Katie McManus, business strategist, Money mindset coach, and hi, Jonathan. Welcome. Hello. I'm doing this fun little setup. I have a new office, as you can see. And I'm doing this fun little setup where I actually have my phone mounted up here and I have my laptop. No more of the balancing my phone on my computer. I'm trying to figure out how to do it, if anyone has any insight as to how to do this, how to do it so that the cameras line up. Because I like looking at the camera and I don't like it when it seems like I'm looking somewhere else. Right. And. Hi, Charles. Welcome, welcome. That's a great picture of you. I like that blue tie. Anyway, so I've been MIA from LinkedIn, from Instagram, from Lives for a little while now because I've been making some big changes in my life and I wanted to share them with you because it's super, super exciting. So you might have noticed I moved. I was living in Philadelphia for about a year and a and it just was not my city. I was not interested in it. It just didn't feel like home. I had some incredible, amazing friends. Like I developed this amazing network and it just wasn't right. And I love this quote by Tim Ferriss and I'm going to completely bastardize it, and I'm sure I've done that in the post here, is that if you want an easy life, you have to make tough decisions now, right? Because if you make the tough decisions now, like the decisions you have to make down the line are going to be so much easier. Hi, Bulent. I hope I'm pronouncing your name correctly. Hello, welcome. So if you make the tough decisions now, if you front load them, the decisions you have to make down the line in your life are going to be so much easier, right? So like for instance, living in Philadelphia when it wasn't the right fit for me, it would have been so easy for me to stay. It would have been so easy for me to just stick with what was, you know, working ish. And just go with it and have that be my life, you know, and just deal with it when it became got to the point where I just couldn't continue anymore or make the tough decision to do. The worst thing that most of us have to do in our lives is move. Not the worst thing, but, you know, like one of the things that we all have to go through, right? We all have to move house at one point or another. To decide to, like, make my life down the line way easier. Right? And, you know, so here's the thing. So, like, you make these tough decisions now and you have easier decisions down the road now. If you decide to go with the easy decision right now, if you decide, like, this is the easiest thing for me to do, what you're ultimately doing is just backloading all those tough decisions. And I mean, that's a choice. That's absolutely a choice. But here's the thing about my world is my clients are super fucking brave. And often they're making tough decisions right now so that they can live their ideal life down the road. And it would have been so hard for me to be their coach, to be their cheerleader and call them on their bullshit if I also wasn't going to walk the talk there. So here I am. I've moved. I'm spending about five months on Cape Cod. If you're in the Cape Cod area, I would love to see you. If you want to come visit Cape Cod, let me know because I love playing tour guide. I'm going to be here for about five months while I zip over to Stanford, Connecticut area and scope out different neighborhoods to live in. Hi, Abby. Speaking of Stanford and Connecticut, we are going to have to hang out because I don't know if you're still in the New Canaan area, but I'm, you know, I'm moving there and you know, talking about this right now. Now how does this relate to your business? Right, because, like, you guys don't really care about me moving. Maybe you do if you want to hang out. And Robert, I can relate. I moved from Washington, D.C. to Bozeman, Montana last year. Oh, my gosh, Robert, you're the second person I know who has moved to Bozeman. The pictures I see online are absolutely gorgeous. Yeah, I, yeah, huge fan of the. The pictures of Bozeman. Never been myself. But yeah, you have to make these tough decisions now to live your ultimate life. Right? So, yeah. So if you're thinking of starting a business. Oh, and Abby is in Norwalk. Okay, cool. I know where Norwalk is. That's a cute little town I like on the highway because I've really only seen it from the highway. They have that beautiful fire department right off 95. And Robert says it's incredible. Okay, Robert, I might have to come visit. We're going to. We're going to do a road trip to Bozeman. Everyone. After everyone comes and visits me on Cape Cod. Oh, and by the way, also, if anyone's going to be in the New York City area April 27th. I'm going to be organizing a little networking happy hour party thing somewhere in the, in Manhattan. I haven't decided yet. I have to send out some polls and figure out like, you know, who can show up and where we should do this. And if you have any recommendations for bars or meetup places, please, please send them to me. I'm so excited to see all my LinkedIn and social media friends in the flesh in real life. And Robert, be careful what you, what you invite me to do. I will come visit. That is, that is not just a threat, that's a promise. Anyway, so, yeah. Oh, and I have a grocery alert on my phone. I also, I also recorded my ADHD podcast today and I don't know what it is about talking about adhd, but it just makes me extra adhd. So I'm bouncing around all over the place. Sorry about that. So let's talk about what it takes for you to make tough decisions in your business and really believing in yourself. Right? Because when you start a business, you don't have any proof of concept that this is going to work. You have no proof that this is going to work. All you have is hope and hopefully some instructions. Also, maybe you have a business coach like me who's giving you some guidance, but it's one of the bravest things that you can do because literally you are basing your, your livelihood on this idea that you can go out and generate money. And Neil, my podcast producer, saying sorry for making the extra ADHD today. I mean Neil, I want to blame you, but honestly this is, is just me, so thank you. But yeah, I won't let you take the blame here. So, yeah, so you're literally betting the whole farm on your ability to go out and generate money from you, sharing about what you're up to. And let me tell you, that is one of the most nerve wracking experiences that you're going to live through in your life. You know, my entrepreneurial journey, if I were to do it all over again, I would do it completely differently. I, I left Cisco. You know, I worked there full time. I was in sales. I left there to start my business. I shouldn't have gone when I did. I should have stuck with some kind of full time job, maybe not at Cisco, maybe at another company and started my business on the side. Right. Because the way I did it, it really forced me to sink or swim. And I'm not saying that that's not a great instigator for being successful. Okay, it obviously worked here. You know, I'm. I'm perfectly happy with how things worked out. However, it could have been a lot less stressful. But regardless, like, I would not. I don't regret starting my business. I don't regret doing that hard thing, making that tough decision to go all in on my dreams and what I wanted for my life. Like, there's no going back for me. That is just. That was the decision that I needed to make for my life to play out the way that I want it to. And that wasn't the easy decision to make. The easiest thing I could have done was just stay with my 9 to 5 job, right? Stay with them, maybe bounce around to a couple more companies, grow through the ranks, maybe get laid off during the pandemic. Who knows? You know, would have ended in a life with a ton of regret if I hadn't made that decision, that tough decision to do, like, this scary thing that I had no proof of working. I can't imagine where I'd be right now. I also can't really imagine liking my life right now, you know, like, how sad would that be? You know, this applies for, you know, the friendships that we have. You know, there are friends that we all have. Unless you've done a Marie Kondo of your social group friends that you have that, like, really don't belong in your friend group anymore. Like, it's easy to hang out with them because it's what you've always done. It's easy to hang out with them because, you know, they're part of your, your social fabric. And maybe you grew up with them. You know, maybe they're just there. And also maybe they're no longer healthy for you. Right? Making the decision to cut people off is really, really hard. And also it's often the thing that's going to make the biggest difference in your happiness levels down the line. Right. So let me see, Robert. I moved from Bozeman for my business, and I'm now changing my business model. Oh, my gosh. I'm so interested to hear what your business model is now. That's fabulous. But yeah, like, that's a great example. Moving, moving basically across the country to a place for your business. That takes bravery, right? I was talking to a client about this the other day, and, you know, they were having a really hard time believing in themselves, believing in this business, working. And I asked them, you know, how does, how does a belief come to be right? And how does, like, success happen? And they shared that like, well, when you believe in something it instigates action. And when you have action, you get results, right? And when you get results, like it reinforces the belief we have this funny thing that we do where we're like, cool, I'm going to wait until this works out and then I'm going to believe in it. When actually for it even to work out, you have to believe in it first. Like believing in yourself, believing that this hard thing that you're putting yourself through in, in, in seeking this dream life that you have, whatever it is that you want, you have to believe in it before you have any proof that it will actually work out for you. It just, there's no other way. I use this example a lot. Like if I, I'm not a runner. Please just like, I just want to preface this. I'm not a runner, I'm not going to train to be a runner. It's just not going to happen. If I wanted to run a nine minute mile though, if that was my goal, if I wanted to be able to run a nine minute mile and maybe run like 10 miles in a row or at the same time in a row, I don't know, how do you say that Running lingo. Please give me, give me all the things and. Hi Sandy, welcome. If I wanted to run a nine minute mile, I can't just start training for it. Like I can't. I could but I probably wouldn't get there, right? Because if I don't believe in myself, if I don't believe that I can actually get to a nine minute mile, there's no fucking way I'm getting there. Like I'll just, I'll work out for a bit, I'll go running, I'll do some training and then I'll just get frustrated. That's not happening overnight, right? Because boom. Like you want the proof, you want to see that you can run a nine minute mile and you can do it for 10 miles in a row, right? And then you're going to believe in it. No, you have to believe in it right now. It's the exact same in starting your business, it's the exact same in scaling your real estate business like Sandy, you have to believe that the efforts you're putting in, the tough things you're doing is actually going to pay off in the long run. If you don't believe in it, you're not going to stick with it long enough to actually get there, right? And full disclosure, you know, it took me several years to get my business To a point where, like, I can, you know, brag about, you know, I did this, now I help my clients do this. You know, it's, it's not an overnight thing. And we live in a world where, like, those immediate results, like, you can get immediate results with so many different things. You can post online and it could go viral and you could get a ton of followers. You could do, you know, any kind of plastic surgery and have, you know, different, different look overnight pretty much. And we have this immediate gratification thing that we just, we expect to just work on something for a little bit and then get the results right away, get the proof that it worked out. A lot of stuff that is worthwhile in life doesn't happen that way. And just to give you some behind the scenes right now. So, like, I'm growing my coaching business. I'm making programs that are far more accessible to people who can't afford to work with me one on one or even in my, in my mastermind group. I'm creating that. I'm also starting two separate businesses, one with a partner and one on my own. And I'm also looking for businesses to buy. This is not going to happen overnight. There's. There's a level of patience. There's a learning curve. There's going to be so much stuff that's going to come up for me along the way. I'm making the tough decision right now. Not right now, but I mean, like, I made it a while ago to like, invest in this time, to prioritize these things in my life so that 10 years from now I can live exactly the life I want to live. Osama, I am from Yemen. It's difficult to live in a happy life, but I'm satisfied with living as there must be sweet and bitter life. I moved from the state of Yemen to no state alienation with. Within a homeland. Oh, gosh. I mean, yeah, well, you. I mean, moving. Moving from like a really, really tough situation, like, talk about hard decisions. Talk about hard decisions. But yeah, no, I hope you have lots of happiness coming your way, you know, and of course, like, making tough decisions right now doesn't guarantee that your life is going to be happy, you know, but making tough decisions right now does guarantee, does guarantee that you're having a little bit of control about what's going to be hard in your life. Robert. Love this instant gratification online has skewed our idea how to make things really work. Yes, it really has. You know, and not to say that like, like being online is Bad, like, look at us. We're able, like, I'm able to, like, show up in, in your phone and on your computer thanks to technology. I'm able to grow my business thanks to technology. Like, technology is incredible. And also, let's not let it set the expectation for how life goes, right? We can absolutely lean into instant gratification in some areas, because that's absolutely worthwhile. But also remind ourselves that in our lives, you know, things take a lot longer. So just want to leave you with this. If you have a tough decision that's coming up, lean into it. Think about who you're going to be 15, 20 years, depending on, like, who you're going to be if you make this decision one way and who you're going to be if you make this decision the other way, what hard things are going to come up down the line? You know, one of the reasons I decided to move to Connecticut and I'm doing it after the summer because I spend the summer on the Cape anyway, is because my parents live in Massachusetts. And while I don't want to live in Massachusetts, I do want to be closer to them as they get older. And I also want to live the life that I want to live. I want to be near nature. I also want to be near a major city. New York is right there. We get to like. I didn't want to have to, like, get down the line when my parents needed me closer and then have to uproot my life, right? I wanted to do that. I wanted to front load that. And I also wanted to do it with intention. Like, really find a spot that is going to fulfill all of my needs for my life and then go with that, with the added benefit that Connecticut drivers are a little bit better than Pennsylvania drivers. One of the main reasons I left, by the way, anyway, so whatever tough decisions you have coming up in your life, whatever you're facing, whatever you foresee happening down the road, I want you to make decisions now that are tough, that are hard, that are really, really tough to stick with. And I want you to go for it, because 20 years from now, you is going to thank you. 30 years from now, you is going to thank you. Okay? You have to take care of future you. You're the only person who will. And remember, the easy decisions that you make right now, the stuff that, like, just makes life go a little more simply, that is not always going to be the easy decision down the line. You know, that could be. That could actually honestly make the worst decisions come up later in life. You know, sticking with a career that you hate. Oh my God, could you imagine sticking with this career that you hate for another 20 years? What that's going to do to you mentally, spiritually and physically? What it's going to do to your relationships. Like who wants to come home to someone every single day who's miserable in their job and just can't stop talking about it? You know, whatever it is that you're committing to right now, is this something that you want to help form you for the next however many years you plan on being in this world? Like, it may be easier to stick with this status quo right now, but down the line it could be incredibly painful. I don't want that for you. And you shouldn't want that for you. I'm going to should you right now. That's the only shooting you'll ever hear from me, is that you should be making tough decisions to make your life easier down the road, not to make your life easy right now. Hi, Jason. Rest and relax Boston. I don't know who you are, but that is a great name. And like I want to rest and relax in Boston. Absolutely. Anyway, I have to get ready. I. So I don't know if you know this, so I launched this group program called Wealthy Weenies. Hi Jason. It's a money mindset program for the brave of heart. It's a 10 week program and we have week six starting in about 18 minutes. So I have to leave this live now I have to go and meal plan or meal plan, a lesson plan a little bit for how I want today's call to go. If you're curious about Wealthy Weenies, if you're wanting to dive into your money story, I am going to be launching a second cohort once this one wraps up. So just shoot me a DM and I'm happy to send you some information. And you know, we're sort of a spot for you if you want it. But anyway, thank you for joining. Thank you. Jason and Sandy and Abby and Jonathan, Morgan and Robert and Osama and Neil and who else? Blent and Charles. I hope I got everyone. And if I didn't call you out, just know that sometimes not all the comments come through. It's not you, I promise. I'm not mad at you. It's just sometimes this is. This technology thing is imperfect anyway. And what do you say? Ramadan Mubarak. For anyone who is celebrating Ramadan, I think today is the first day. Yeah. And I think that's how you say it. Rabanad Mubarak and if I'm mispronouncing anything or if I'm getting it wrong, please tell me. I want to be culturally, culturally sensitive. I also can't say words today. It's just not working. Oh, Lole. Oh, thank you. Anyway, thank you all for joining. I'm going to be wrapping up now. I look forward to seeing you all soon. Soon in live and also, like, depending on where you were watching from. If you could tell me, was it distracting for me to be looking up and down, or could you not tell? I'm trying to figure out the best setup for my phone slash computer thing, because for some reason, Instagram doesn't sync with streamyard. You still, you still have to do Instagram natively on Instagram. Anyway, have a great day, everyone, and I will see you all soon. Bye.
