Good morning. I'm Katie McManus, business strategist and money mindset coach. Happy Thursday, everyone. So today is December 15th, and I want to first and foremost celebrate that my goal this month has been to go live every single day. But yesterday you noticed if you were paying attention, that I didn't go live. Now, this is the power of working for yourself. This is the power of having goals set for yourself that matter that you want to hold to, but also tending to your body. Yesterday I had this headache all day. I couldn't shake it. And when I was debating whether or not I wanted to go live, I realized one of the things that it would be a bad model of is the freedom and flexibility to do self care the right way in having your own business. Because I mean, honestly, so many of us, if we worked for someone else, if we were being held accountable by our boss or we were feeling like it wouldn't, like we have to prove our worth, we would sacrifice ourselves. We would absolutely do the thing when we're not feeling great. And that's not why we're starting businesses. We're starting businesses so that we can tend to ourselves the way that our bodies need. We're not doing it at the expense of any anything, especially ourselves. And I just wanted to. To take a moment to acknowledge that, to show you. This is how I do this in my business. It's. It's really easy to get really, like, hyped up about a goal and have to have it go perfectly. And also, nothing in your life or business is going to go perfect. Nothing. It can go really, really well, but it's never gonna go perfectly to plan, okay? And part of you being in business and part of you doing well in that business is being okay with that. And it's really hard to know that you're allowed to do that if other business owners aren't doing it and modeling it for you. So here's me showing you I'm modeling it. Take care of your body. That is the number one thing that you should be taking care of. It's your top priority. If your body's not doing well, then you're not going to be able to stay in this business. Now, I am going live to the Facebooks, to LinkedIn, to YouTube and to Twitter. If you have any questions about what I'm about to talk on, different ideas to get your business started, then please pop them in the chat. I love this to be interactive and also know that sometimes the technology fails us and I don't see all comments from all places. So if you comment and I don't call you out, it's not you. It's just the technology. I'm sorry, my phone is buzzing under my butt and I'm just making sure. Anyway, so. So if you want to start a business and you're getting all flipped out about what kind of business it should be, and what if I start the wrong one? And what if it doesn't work? And what if. What if. What if. I need you to take a deep breath with me right now, okay? Okay. Let that go. Your first business is not going to be perfect. Just like nothing you plan and start doing and none of your strategies are going to go perfectly. Your first business is not going to be perfect. It is going to be the first iteration in a long line of dozens of different iterations, okay? What matters the most is that your first business is profitable because when you make more money, you have more flexibility and freedom to make better decisions and different decisions down the road. Okay? Your only priority with your first business is to. I will. To make more money and to do it in a way that reflects your values. Okay? So we're not just, like, out there making money at any expense, obviously. But that is your. Your first objective in building this business is will this be profitable? And let me tell you, it's okay to start a couple businesses and, you know, do an online course and offer coaching and do this and do that and have them fall flat. Okay? That's what a lot of business owners go through. All right? If you're going through that right now and you're thinking, oh, my God, I'm a failure. This isn't working for me. There's something wrong with me that it's working for so many other people out there, but just not me. I need you to cool your role. I need you to cool your role. Take a deep breath. It's not just you, okay? It's so many new business owners go through that. That fail cycle where they have to fail and they have to start back up and they have to fail and they have to start back up and they have to fail and they have to start back up. The only thing is that a lot of us don't talk about it, okay? It's one of the reasons that I share my journey in discovering my niche so often is because I want you to see that my first niche didn't work out. And my second niche, like, was fine, but it wasn't really the right fit for me. It wasn't until I got, like, two Other niches down that I realized, oh my God, this is my life's calling, this is what I want to do. And even now I'm playing in my business. I'm offering one on one coaching. I have a group program, I have digital courses. Like, you know, they're going to evolve and they're going to change and they're going to be, one's going to be more effective than the others. They're like, I may put out a digital course that completely flops, okay? You just don't know until you try it, until you put it out there. All right? And if you haven't heard this story before, yes, I'm a business strategist and money mindset coach now. I didn't start off that way. I started. When I started my coaching business, I was convinced I was going to be the premier dating coach for men in the San Francisco Bay area. Because I dated a lot of guys in the San Francisco Bay Area and they needed my help. I was going to fix them. It didn't work out that way. I got one dude and I got eight female clients who wanted dating coaching. Now seven of those eight women. What we ended up working on in our time together wasn't dating coaching. It was executive leadership coaching. Because how they were being at work, how they were shitty at saying no to their boss with last minute projects, how they would let co workers walk all over them and pissed them off so much that they'd canceled dates completely got in the way of them even being able to have a personal life. So I evolved my, my dating coaching from men to women and then realized very quickly, okay, cool, I'm not doing dating coaching with these women except for one of them. I'm a leadership coach. So I went and got some leadership training, right? Because you know, I'd been a people leader at certain points in my career, but I needed to know so much more to be able to advise and was doing that and built up a fairly successful business at that, you know, doing some corporate contracts and working one on one with clients. But then all my friends kept coming to me for my coach training and saying, hey, how did you get clients? How, how did you do that? How did you go from like no clients and no money coming in to now having some corporate contracts and one on one clients and like, how are you charging them and how did you have that conversation to get them to be your client? Like, how did you set up a website? Like they just, they didn't know and I didn't realize that my whole Background in sales and marketing. I had just kind of like, picked up, like, pulled the simple pieces out and plopped it into my business and created this very simple system for me to use to. To set up my business. So I started showing my friends this and I started helping them solve their problems in their businesses. And they started signing clients and they started being successful, and they started coming to me and be like, oh, my God, like, your sales training changed my life. Oh, my God. You telling me how to describe what I do changed how I run my business. And I'm attracting so many more clients now. And very quickly they were like, can I start paying you for this? Because I have questions and I want your advice and I don't want to be a freebie chaser anymore. And so it evolved and I realized, yes, I was doing this leadership coaching and development, but I loved helping people start their businesses so much more. I felt like I was a magician in medieval times. He's teaching alchemy to people like, how do you turn precious metals or any kind of metal into gold? Like, that's what I was doing. And so I started building that side of my business, and it started growing. And then the pandemic hit. And then I really didn't have a choice because a lot of my leadership clients left. It was completely out of my control. The economy went to shit. People started freaking out. They were worried about making this investment if their boss was paying for it, their boss was cutting costs there. Some of my corporate clients fell through because, you know, they had to lay people off and you can't justify this expense. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Okay? So I'm sharing this because I want you to see that there is no, no guaranteed successful path for any one business. Okay? The only way you're going to know if it's going to be successful is if you go out and do it. And the most successful signs, the signs that a business is going to be successful is that people are already asking you to help them solve that problem. So, you know, what are the problems that people come to you and ask you to help them fix? What problems do you see out there in the world that you have an idea for a creative solution to? Who, like, what are you the go to person for things on? That was a weirdly grammatically weird sentence, but you know what I mean, that. That is what you should focus on for your very first business. All right? That is where you're going to have the most impact. That is going to at least get your feet wet in. In Learning how to start a business. Because here's the thing. You're going to start one business, you're going to learn so many lessons there that even if that business doesn't take off in the way you want it to, you're going to be able to apply all that learning into your second business. And again, if that doesn't take off the way you want it to, you're going to get so much more learning. And all that learning is going to be applied to your third business and so on and so forth. And it is your responsibility to just keep adding to that learning and augmenting your strategy and your plan as you go forth and start future businesses. Okay? It's not. It's not school. We're out of school. We graduated, we're done. It's no longer. You study to a certain point and then you go take a test and you pass the test, and there you go. Nope, that's not how life works, okay? Life works. That you study, you do, you fail. You do again. You fail a little less shitty shittily this time. You fail again. But, like, it wasn't as gruesome as the first two times. And then you start gaining a little bit of success and. And then you fail again, and then again, more success, and then he fail again. And that's. That's just how it goes. There's no. There's no pass fail. There's no pass fail. I know. It felt really good when there was pass fail and we passed and we got the little sticker and we got the pat on the back from our parents and we got to brag about our grades to our friends and all that stuff. But that's not how life works, okay? So if you're holding yourself to that model, to that standard, please do yourself a favor and just let it go. Let it go. You're going to be so much happier and fulfilled and grounded in your life if you let it go and just try things that you know you can be helpful in. Okay, I don't know who just liked that, but thank you. Tonight, I'm going to be going live with Tyler Cook and David Fryman in our Biz Lab Live. We have decided to do a new format for picking a topic. And this is. I'm gonna pull three topics. I'm gonna pull three random ones out of this little bundle, and we're gonna have a vote on LinkedIn. So if you would like to vote on which one of these we should build tonight, the first one is junk removal. I kind of need that right now. I don't know anything about that. I'm gonna veto that one before we even get there. Plumbing, a plumbing business. Who doesn't need good plumbing, really? And Pilates studios that those are the three businesses that we have options for to build. Tonight. You're gonna get some say you get to vote and decide which one we should build and tune in for that at 7:00pm Eastern Standard Time. With that, I'm Katie McManus, business strategist and money mindset coach. Go and get started on your business and if not today, then make plans for it to happen before the new year starts. It's always so much easier to build momentum before you've like set a set the date that you're going to start. If you've started three days before, it just helps you hit the ground running so much faster. And if you need any help with any of this, you know where to find me. DM me. I'm happy to support you in anything that you're trying to build anyway, unless it's an MLM or in crypto. Don't do those things. Anyway, I'm Katie McManus, business strategist and money mindset coach. I will see you tonight at 7pm and thank you for joining me. Have a great day, everyone.
