Not eveyone’s going to like you- but that shouldnt stop you from starting your business, putting you

Katie McManus recalls a public-speaking class where someone told her people thought she was unintelligent. She argues that accepting not everyone will like you is essential for speaking publicly and building a business, especially for ADHD entrepreneurs who tend to people-please.

Tell you about the time that someone told me to my face that whenever.
She meets a blonde woman who says.
Like, a lot, she assumes that they're unintelligent.
I mean, like, oh, God, yeah, that's me. So I want you to picture this. I'm standing in the middle of a circle, okay?
There are people all around me.
This is a training program that I.
Had signed up for.
And the point of it was to.
Get everyone to give their honest opinion of you, even if it hurt.
And I remember staring this woman in the face as she's giving me this feedback. And I can see this apology in her eyes because she wasn't saying this to hurt my feelings, but it hurt. It was really, really rough to hear that. But the whole point of this exercise.
Was to show everyone in the class, because this is a public speaking class, that not everyone's going to like you. Not everyone's going to think you're intelligent. Not everyone is going to think you're interesting.
Some people may think you're awful. And all that is okay, because to.
Stand up in front of tens, hundreds, thousands of people on stage and speak to them, you have to know that there are going to be people that do not like you. But that doesn't mean that you shouldn't go out there. It doesn't mean that you shouldn't speak.
And this whole exercise was to show.
You that you could hear this feedback directly out of someone's mouth and be okay. And let me tell you, hearing this.
Awful thing that she thought about me.
Not knowing me at all absolutely changed my life. Because up till this moment, my goal in every situation was to make everyone like me.
And we all know that's impossible.
So after that class, I really stopped caring what people thought. I spoke up a ton more. I put myself out there. I was a crap ton more brave in my business and my life, and that's when everything changed. So I want to remind you, if you're starting a business or if you're just doing anything brave that requires you to be in front of people, and you struggle with people pleasing and wanting everyone to like you. I want you to let that go. Because if you hide from the people who might hate you, you're also going to be hiding from the people who love you, who are inspired by you, and who want to hire you. So basically, just stop being weenie about it, okay? Oh, and hi. I help ADHD business owners make more money in less time with fewer distractions. I'm Katie McManus, business strategist and money mindset, Coach.
And if you want me to tell.
You to stop being weenie on a regular basis, then go ahead and like and follow me.
