One Brave Moment- A challenge

Katie McManus challenges you to do one brave thing today, outside your comfort zone. Ask for what you want, set a boundary, start that business. She says repeated small brave acts rewire your brain, and life's too short to wait.
Good morning. I'm Katie McManus, business strategist and leadership coach. My dog is grumbling in the background. She sees a dog across the street that she's not really a fan of because it's too big and it kind of scares her. Anyway, I wasn't planning on coming live today. I have an insane day. I'm literally talking for, like, nine hours straight. But I was thinking about the impact that I want to have in the world, and I was thinking about the little things that we can all do to change our lives. And I have a challenge for you today. You're going to do one brave thing. You're going to do one brave thing, and this can take a second, it can take five minutes, it can take an hour, but you're going to do one thing that is outside your comfort zone. You're going to do one thing that you want to do. You're going to have that difficult conversation that you've been avoiding, or you're going to at least open the door to it. You're going to say, hey, I think we need to talk about X, Y, and Z. Okay, you're going to sit down. Hi, Sushat. I hope I'm pronouncing your name correctly. Good evening. It might be a little late for you, so you can do this challenge tomorrow if you want, but you're going to have that conversation. You're gonna have some part of it. That conversation that you've been avoiding. It could be with your boss, a co worker, a spouse, your kids. There's something that is not going perfectly with that relationship, and you're going to delve into it today and. Hi, Gabriel. Nice to see you. Good morning. You are going to look at your life, and you're gonna see where your wants aren't being met. Your wants, not your needs. I have a big problem with, like, oh, ask for what you need. Because of course we're going to ask for what we need. We're going to ask for our basic human needs to be met. If we're not, then there are bigger problems. You need to go to therapy, but there is this stigma around asking for what you want. What you want in a romantic relationship. What you want from your work, what. What you want from your life. And if there's an area of your life where there's something you want and you're not getting it, I challenge you to go and ask for it today. If anything has taught us this these last two years, if anything has been learned, is that life is short. Life is short. And you don't get another shot at asking for what you want. And so this is my battle cry. Ask for what you want. You can have it, but you can't have it if you don't ask for it. Okay, I, you know, I'm a coach. I'm in the coaching world. There's a lot of conversation always about manifesting. I'm gonna. I'm gonna sit here and I'm gonna manifest and I'm gonna hold the vibration of what I want, and it's gonna come to me. No, no, that's not how it works. Manifesting is an inside game. It happens right here. But it also happens by me going out and saying, hello, hi, world, hello, people who I'm connected to. This is what I want. I really want this. I'm attracting this. I mean, how are they supposed to know to introduce opportunities to you or people or invite you to meetings and places where you could potentially get what you want? You have to ask for it. And I get that that is really scary. I get that that is a vulnerable place to be to say what you want because you could absolutely be rejected for it. You could absolutely have people laugh at you for it. You could absolutely have people question you for it. But if you want it badly enough, it is worth putting yourself out there for. And today you're going to go and ask for it. I don't. I don't care what you have on your plate today. You have excuses all day long. I understand. I do, too. We all have all the excuses. But today, March 25, there's no significance today. Except that today you're going to do one brave thing. You're going to make a decision today about how you want to live the rest of your life. And it can be small. It can be absolutely small. It could be you going into the gym even though you're worried people will laugh at you because you don't know what you're doing or you're overweight or whatever. It could be you saying no to something that you usually say yes to because it's easier way. Could be you setting boundaries where you need to set some boundaries. Today you're going to do that one brave thing. And it may not feel like a huge thing, but if it feels a little scary, if it feels like you're outside your comfort zone and you have that gulp moment that, am I really doing this? You know, if you do that one brave thing today, what's going to happen is you're going to prove to yourself that you can do one brave thing and not die. Because, let's be real, our brains have not cut out. Caught up with the evolution of our world, okay? Our brains still equate being asking for what we want and getting a scary email back as a hungry tiger in the room, okay? We don't know the difference between life and death situations, okay? Our brains, like, chemically don't understand. We understand intellectually, but our. Our brains, on a chemical level, they don't. And you have within your power the ability to rewire your brain, to retrain it, that you can do scarier and scarier and scarier things, things that are further and further outside your comfort zone in the name of having the life you want. Okay? So if you have been thinking about starting a business, whatever that first step is, if it's dming me and saying, hey, I need to start a business and I've been chickening out, I've been being a complete weenie about this, then that is your brave step. I'm not. I'm not going to bite your head off. I'm not going to make you feel guilty for waiting so long. Nothing. But maybe it's also telling your spouse that you're not happy in your job. Maybe it's telling them, you know, I have this dream. Will you support me in it? Knowing that it's going to scare the crap out of them, too. Whatever this brave moment is, I need you to do it today. Whatever it is. Because remember, how we do one thing is how we do everything. So if you're a chicken shit in your romantic life, guess where else that's gonna show up. If you're bad at setting boundaries at work, guess where else that's going to show up. If you don't take a stand for the things that you want in one area, say, your hobbies, guess where else that's gonna show up. You need to stop that. We're not about that here. This is the. The not a weenie zone. And if you have any part of you that's still being a weenie about something small, we need to. We need to do something about that. And. Hi, Ahmed. Thank you. Thanks for the thumbs up. Anyway, this is just a short live. I have a crazy day ahead of me. I have, like, nine hours of speaking to clients and a speaking event and all the things. So I'm gonna go and preserve my voice and drink the rest of this coffee and drop my lovely dog if she'll ever finish her breakfast off at daycare. But I hope you have an amazing day and please, when you do that one brave thing, I want you to message me. I want you to message me. I want you to tell me it's done, and I want you to tell me exactly how it felt to do it. Okay? No matter how big or small it is. Okay. Anyway, have a great day. And Katie McManus, business strategist and leadership coach. Happy Friday. We'll talk to you soon.
