Katie McManus tosses training treats in the yard and tells her big dogs to go look, turning it into a 10-15 minute sniffing game. Olfactory work tires them out like a longer walk, leaving them chill for hours so she can take client calls without interruption.

Work from home. I have my own business and I have a few big dogs around all the time and they need exercise and sometimes I don't have time in between calls. Let me tell you the trick I have found that works incredibly to get them the exercise that they need so they're a little more chill is I just take training treats and I throw them into the yard and oh, she's pooping. Anyway, I throw them into the yard and just tell them, go look. And I call this the game. They love the game. And they will spend a good like 10, 15 minutes just sniffing out where all these treats landed, depending on how far I was throwing that day. And it really works. It's basically someone told me that whenever they're using their olfactory senses, it's like 15 minutes could be like a 30 minute walk for them. That's the amount of work it makes them do. And let me tell you, they are so chill for like the next few hours. It really gives me the time I need to focus on my calls and my clients and, and to not be harassed by them all the time. So anyway, just a little practical work from home. Tip for my fellow dog owners who also have their own businesses. I know there are babies, we want to make sure they get enough exercise and all that jazz, but sometimes it's just not realistic to go for a half hour or an hour long walk. Anyway, hope that helps. Let me know if you try it and how it works for you. Bye.
