What they dont tell you about starting a business… #smallbusinessowner #solopreneurship #adhdcoach #

Katie McManus, a business strategist and money mindset coach, says starting a business forces emotional work most people don't expect. She ended a 20-year friendship in the process and describes how confronting beliefs about your own worth can surface old traumas. Some relationships won't survive the shift when you claim your full value.
I recently walked away from a 20 year friendship and it was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. And not because it was difficult to lose this person. Sorry, not sorry. But because I had to reckon with the fact that I had accepted their unkindness and their disrespect for 20 plus years. I let that happen. What I didn't expect when I started my business was the sheer amount of shadow work that I would have to do.
No one tells you this in the business books. And this is because all of the.
Garbage beliefs that you have about yourself, about what you deserve, will all come to the surface as you're building your business. And you're going to have to address all the big and little traumas that you've been through, all the little bits of evidence that you have spent your whole life building a case against yourself as to why you don't deserve certain things and why you have to settle for what you settle for.
And as you shine a light on.
All of these garbage beliefs and you start shifting them and understanding your worth, there are certain relationships that will not.
Survive that you because there are some people who will only be friends with.
You because you're a people pleaser, because you undervalue yourself and because you will settle for the bare minimum that they have to offer.
And when all those factors stop existing.
In you, that relationship just can no longer exist.
And I'm convinced this is why so many successful business owners talk about losing.
Friends along the way.
And I think most of us assume, well, it's because you're successful, it's because you have money and it's because all these things, you upgraded your life. You're kind of the asshole, weren't you? No.
They outgrew their shadow selves. They did the work to realize their worth and these friends that they had early on in their lives couldn't deal with their up leveled selves.
And these successful entrepreneurs were no longer.
Willing to settle for the crumbs, the.
Moldy old crusty crumbs that these people.
Were willing to dole out in the form of friendship.
Because through growing their business and through.
Growing out of their shadow work, they realize they deserve the whole damn loaf of bread. And you do too.
And forgive me, I'm under the weather today. So this message comes to you from a lazy Saturday in bed and hi.
I help ADHD business owners make more money in less time with your distractions. I'm Katie McManus, business strategist and money mindset coach.
