You need to figure these 3 things out before you start your business- or else it will go badly

Katie McManus breaks down three things to nail before launching a service business: where your clients actually are and how they'll find you, what to charge (most new owners undercharge), and how many hours you actually want to work. Figure out your ideal life first, then build the business around it.

Here are the three things to consider when you're planning out the services that your new business will offer. Hi. I help ADHD business owners make more money in less time with fewer distractions. I'm Katie McManus, business strategist and money mindset coach. Number one is the most important thing. It's how are people going to discover you and hire you? Because starting a business is kind of like dating. To find the love of your life, you can get all dolled up, you can do your hair, you can pick out a cool outfit, but if you don't leave your living room and you don't put yourself out there on dating apps or something, you're never going to meet anyone. And so often I see new business owners who set up a website, but they don't do anything to drive traffic to that website. And likewise, they're so afraid to post on social media, just talking about what they do. There is no way in this green earth that clients are going to find you. So think through. Where do your ideal clients hang out? Are they on LinkedIn? Are they on TikTok? Are they on Instagram? Where? And when you figure out where they spend the most time, do you devote a whole year to completely owning that one platform? Number two is, are you charging enough? Because most new business owners do not charge enough. Luna, do you charge enough? No. No. We need to. Did you just fart? Let's totally stay again. Anyway, so most new business owners do not charge enough. And I think this comes from being very well trained by our society to work a 40 hour a week job. And when you're working 40 hour a week job, you're usually being paid for every single hour that you work. And when those people go out on their own, they assume that they're going to be working 40 hours a week, which is true, you probably will be. But you're not going to be paid for each and every one of those hours. There are going to be client hours that you do get paid for, but the vast majority of the time you spend in your business is going to be unpaid. And I'm talking about all the time that you're going to spend marketing and selling and networking and building out the backend for your programs and creating new products and services. Yeah, no one client is going to pay you to do all of that for yourself. So you have to charge more than you've ever been comfortable charging in your life. And to give you an idea, on average, the leadership coaches who work with me to establish their businesses, they on average will charge about $1,200 a month for two calls per client. The copywriting clients that I have, they will have retainers, like monthly retainers for their clients that range from anywhere from 2,000 to $10,000 a month, depending on their industry and how much work they're doing per month. And if hearing me say that made you want to vom in your mouth a little bit, then you, my friend, need to do some money mindset work. And lastly, number three, how much time do you want to spend working in your business? Every single day for the next 10 years? Because here's the thing about designing the life that you want and not going to happen by accident. You're not going to design this business and then trip and fall into it creating your ideal life. You're going to have to reverse engineer it. And regardless if you want to make $50,000 a year or $500,000 a year, pretty much every goal is reverse engineer if you have the right strategy, which hi, I do strategy for my clients. So if you want any help with that DM me and if you found this helpful, please go ahead and like and follow. And if you have any questions on how you can start and grow your business, then please put them in the comments. I'm always looking for new inspiration to do my video.
