An athlete trained hard at an elite level but couldn't gain weight or finish games strong until coaches realized he was burning 2,000 calories daily without eating enough to match it. Once he fueled properly, his senior year performance improved and fourth-quarter fatigue disappeared.
Chapters
He was doing all the right things. He was going to the Athletic Performance Center a few times a week. He was, he was training speed, he was training plows, he was training strength. But like, he still was unable to put on some weight, and he still was unable to stick out the way that he wanted to. And I really believe it was because he was underfueling. And he did a lot better because we knew what we knew. Like, he did a lot better his senior year versus his junior year. You know, if you're underfueling, if you're hitting fourth quarter walls, which he was his junior year and he didn't his senior year because we were able to step in and help him, um, but most kids, they're burning so many calories and they're just not— they're not eating enough. Like, just think about how many calories— even if it's— if they're burning 300 calories an hour and they're working out 3 hours a day, I mean, they're probably burning even more than that an hour, at least 5 to 6. Like, they're burning 2,000 calories a day and they're probably not even eating that much.
