Welcome back to my easy snacks for athletes to pack in their backpacks. There's usually two types of snacks an athlete needs throughout the school day. Snack number one is going to be a snack that refuels your muscle energy tank so that you can actually have energy to get through practices and games. And snack number two is going to keep your energy steady throughout the day and help you get enough food throughout the day so that you're not just waiting 5 hours between meals to eat. For snack number one, the energy, the carbohydrates, we have dried mangoes, granola bars, applesauce that you can keep in your backpack. You Usually you're shooting for about 50 grams of carbohydrates here. So a granola bar paired with an applesauce, or the— some of these mango slices paired with a granola bar. Any of these are mix and matchable. Snack number 2, we need 3 different parts. We need a fat source. So for this, this is almonds, but any nut would work here. You're not going to eat all of these almonds. This is to keep in your bag all week long. You can have about a fourth of a cup of nuts here. Then you're going to have a protein source. This is beef jerky, doesn't go bad in your backpack. And then lastly, you're going to have another carbohydrate source. If you want to bring fresh fruit, I think that's even better, but obviously that's going to go bad if you're trying to stock it for the week. This is where another sauce could come in. So you're going to want to eat snack number 2 as a mid-morning snack or directly after a workout, and you're going to want to eat snack number 1 about an hour and a half before your practice or your game.
