Divide your athlete's body weight in pounds by two to find their minimum daily water intake in ounces. That's the baseline before accounting for sweat loss during training or games. Start there, then adjust up for practice and competition days.

This is video number 4 in the series where I teach parents how to fuel their athletes. And today we are talking about elite athlete hydration. The first thing every elite athlete needs to know is how much water they need to be drinking every single day. Here's the formula. You're going to take their body weight in pounds. So if they're a 200-pound athlete, you know, 200, you're going to divide that by 2. So just chop it in half and that's going to give you the amount of ounces they need every single day. This is the baseline. This is the minimum amount that they're going to need, not on top of practices. So this 200-pound athlete, if he is training multiple hours a day, he He's most likely going to need more than 100 ounces, but getting your athlete to get used to this baseline number is a big win in the beginning. And then you can start dialing in the practice ounces and the game time ounces even more after that. And we got lots of videos on that, but my number 1 suggestion would be buying them a big water bottle for you to send to school with them and making a goal of how many of those water bottles they need to drink every single day. We have already covered all of this and we have one more video tomorrow, so check back for video number 5.
