LeBron James didn't actually cut carbs, just processed sugars. Elite athletes need carbohydrates as their primary fuel source. LeBron still eats fruits, vegetables, pasta, and protein, so "cutting carbs" meant ditching sweets, not whole foods.

LeBron James cuts out carbs during his season. But Coach Kellis, like, what the heck? I thought you told us that like we have to be pounding carbs as elite athletes. Let me science this for you. Carbs are the gas to your muscle's energy tanks. You cannot play well, you cannot run well, you cannot do anything well athletically without carbohydrates. Later in the video, LeBron says he eats primarily proteins, fruits, veggies, and some pastas and stuff like that. My educated guess, by cutting carbs, he's meaning that he's cutting the sugars. He's cutting the cookies, the cake, the candy, that stuff. He's eating the apples, the bananas, the fruits, those whole food healthy carbs. These whole food healthy carbs are going to help him perform a whole lot more and fill his gas tanks up. Processed sugars, it's going to make him feel a little bit more lethargic, not as good, um, not as fresh. So don't be scared by LeBron saying that he's cutting out all carbs. He's probably just cutting out processed sugars. So you guys are good to go. Keep eating those carbs.
