In this solo‑host instructional video, the presenter explains how parents can fuel their young athletes before practice, training, or games. The core message is that a high‑carbohydrate snack taken about 90 minutes prior to activity helps prevent fatigue and supports performance. The speaker recommends aiming for roughly 50 g of carbs, achieved by pairing two snack items each providing 20‑25 g of carbs. Specific, easy‑to‑digest snack combos are listed (e.g., banana + granola bar, dates + granola bar, rice cakes + dried mango, pretzels + apple, fruit leather, applesauce, grapes, etc.). The presenter emphasizes the convenience of these items for backpack packing and offers a downloadable grocery‑list guide for parents who comment “list”. The video concludes by teasing the next installment in the series.

Welcome back to the series where I teach parents how to fuel your athletes. And today we are going to be talking about what snacks to pack in your athlete's backpack to eat before practice, training, or games. Snack number 1 that would be awesome pre-practice or game is a banana with a granola bar. Now, all of these snacks are going to be very easy to digest. They are high carbohydrate, and that's very important because your athlete's muscles have little energy tanks that are fueled by carbohydrates. They don't have enough carbs in their system, that's when they hit the wall, that's when they fatigue, that's when they don't play as well, and we don't want that happening. So 90 minutes before they practice or play, we need to have a high-carbohydrate snack. We are looking for roughly 50 grams of carbs here. So this is a mix and match right here. You can get 2 to 3 dates with a granola bar. You can get 2 to 3 rice cakes with a handful of dried mangoes. You can do some pretzels with an apple. As you can see, I intentionally did this so that they can mix and match any of these, but you need to choose 2. We've got fruit leather, dried mango, applesauce, granola bars, dates, crackers, pretzels, apples, bananas, grapes would work. Anything high in carbohydrate, going about 20 to 25 on one hand and 20 to 25 on the other hand, put them together, you have the perfect pre-training snack. And also, all of these are very easy to pack in your backpack or keep in your pantry. I actually made a guide that has all the best pre-training snacks for athletes. It's a little grocery list that you can take the store with you. Comment the word list below and we'll send it to you. And remember, we are covering all of this, so come back tomorrow for video number 3.
