When your athlete ignores your coaching, keep trying anyway. Steph Curry's son Keenan refused his father's shooting tips despite Curry being the world's best shooter. The speaker says this resistance is normal, and patience plus persistence eventually gets through.
Chapters
Athlete parents, this is from Steph Curry's new book. My son Keenan's got a hoop on his wall and he's been testing his range a little bit. I tried to give him some pointers on how to shoot, but he won't listen. No, he tells me, this is how I do it. I respect that. You can only listen when you are ready. I cannot tell you the amount of parents that I have talked to who are super frustrated because they know what their athletes need to do to succeed. The athletes won't listen. Parents, you guys do You're spending them to camps, to trainings. You're pouring your time and effort and money into this dream of theirs. And so I understand the frustration, but the best shooter in the entire world has a son who has a hoop on his wall, and he offered to help him, and the kid said, "No, this is how I do it." The kid's dad is the best shooter in the world and said, "No, Dad, I do it this way." If that doesn't make you feel better, I don't know what would. So just keep trying, parents. They will listen when they are ready. Don't take it from me, take it from Steph. This book is called Shot Ready. I think every single athlete and every athlete parent should be reading this.
