This or that featuring @ coachdhansen

Coach Dhansen and Kelsey Higginson pick between fitness choices: trap-bar deadlift or power clean, pre- or post-workout fuel, free weights or machines. They lean toward practical options that prioritize skill work and lower-body training.

Power cleans or trap bar deadlifts?
I like trap bar, right?
Yep.
She like, right? Yeah. Power cleans, you just need a lot of— yeah, you need skill.
Skill takes more time. Uh, front rack position can be dangerous for some athletes. So trap bar deadlift, simple, and you can load it up.
Pre-workout fuel or post-workout fuel?
I'm gonna go right down the middle.
Yep. Follow Kelsey. Follow Kelsey.
If it's pre-practice, I'd say pre-work. If it's post-lift, probably post.
Free weights or machines?
I like to train more free anyway.
Free weights. I will say that machines can be Very applicable for injured athletes or athletes that are lacking behind on specific body parts.
Skill work or speed and strength training? Dude, you need both.
Yeah, you need both. So if you're going to be elite, you need both.
You can be the most athletic person, but if you don't know how to put a ball through the hoop, you're not going to go D1.
Upper body or lower body focus?
Left, lower body, lower body for sure.
Warm-ups or cool-downs?
Both. Both are great for staying healthy.
This was not routine anyway, guys. Yeah, longevity.
We just think the same.
Yeah.
Pounding water before your workout or sipping on water during your workout?
I feel like that's not a fair question. You shouldn't be pounding before workout, but you want to be hydrated pre-workout. Don't wait till your workout to hydrate, you know what I'm saying? If you haven't hydrated properly throughout the day, it's going to be way better to sip on water throughout it than to pound a whole 20 ounces 5 minutes before your workout and then just have stomach pain the rest of the time.
8 times a week or 3 times a week.
I just learned this from the podcast. Yeah. Be efficient.
Yeah. Efficient. And we want to be able to recover between sessions. Think high and low.
