Kelsey Higginson breaks down tournament day fueling: eat 1 gram of carbs per minute of break time. A 30-minute break calls for 30g carbs; 60 minutes needs 60g plus protein. For breaks over two hours, eat a real meal like a sandwich. Dried fruit, pretzels, granola bars, and fresh fruit all work.

Basketball players, keep these snacks in your bag during your tournament days. This is in-between-game fuel right here. For every minute that you have in between a game, we want to have about that amount of gram of carbohydrate. So if you have 30 minutes in between a game, something like this is going to be perfect to have in between that game. If you have, you know, 25 minutes in between your game, something like this would be awesome to have in between your game. If you have an hour in between your game, that's when I start saying we have 60 grams of carbs and then we add some protein in there too to help up with hunger. But if you have more than 2 hours between your games, that's when you go and get a sandwich or something to hold you over so that you can perform like you want to be performing. So my other favorite carb options that would totally fit with my 1:1 rule: we have dried fruit, we have pretzels, we have Popcorners, we can do granola bars. Fruit is an amazing option. Any of those options are going to work so well to help your stomach digest them quickly before your next game.
