If I had to pack food in my athlete's bag for an away game, here's everything I would pack. I don't have a teenage athlete, so I'm using my toddler's PAW Patrol lunchbox. So for your typical away game, you're probably getting on the bus 3 to 4 hours before game time starts. So 3 to 4 hours before your athlete plays, you want to pack a turkey sandwich, crackers, some fruit, and a granola bar. This is going to be high in carbohydrates, moderate in protein, and low in fat, which is what we want 4 hours before on game day to keep them energized for the game, but to allow easy digestion so that they don't feel pukey during the game. So you're I'm also going to pack for 2 hours before game time an applesauce and some dried mango. These are carbohydrates that are going to top off their energy stores to make it so that they can have sustained energy all through the game. My last bit is make sure you send them with fluids, and I would also recommend packing an electrolyte packet for them to start sipping on 1 hour before the game.
