In this debate‑style speech, Kevin Law argues that China will ultimately surpass the United States as the world’s most dominant nation. He first defines “dominant nation” as a country with the greatest power to influence the global economy and the most advanced research and development (R&D) capabilities. The resolution is framed as a win‑or‑lose proposition: if he can demonstrate that China will have stronger economic power and superior technological advancement than the U.S., he wins; otherwise the opponent wins. Law presents two main contentions. The first contends that the United States and many other major economies are heavily dependent on Chinese manufacturing—citing that China produces 97 % of U.S. antibiotics and assembles the majority of Apple products, and that Germany, the UK, and Japan also rely on Chinese factories. This manufacturing dependence, he argues, gives China indirect control over the world economy. The second contention focuses on government policy during the COVID‑19 pandemic. He claims China continues to invest aggressively in R&D (5G, new energy, infrastructure, e‑commerce, digital health) while the U.S. focuses on coal, tariff wars, and election politics. Citing a Forbes article quoting economist Richard Duncan, Law asserts that even a $100 billion U.S. R&D boost over five years would not allow the U.S. to catch up. He concludes that China’s economic resilience and R&D momentum will inevitably lead it to overtake the United States as the dominant global power.

Hi, my name is Kevin. Thanks for all of you who is watching this video and my future opponent. The resolution today is China will eventually overtake the United States and become the most dominant nations in the world. First of all, I'll let's start off with the resolution analysis. I would like to define dominant nations as the country who has the strongest power to influence the world's economy and who is the most advanced in R&D, which is research and Technological development. Warfare in this round can be defined as successful to prove that China will eventually have a stronger power in economy and technological advancement than the US. This round is going to be weighed on a mechanism to prove whether China will eventually overtake the United States as the most dominant nation in the world. If I am successful proving that China will eventually have a stronger economic power and advancements in R&D, I should win this round. If my opponent can prove that the United States will still hold the strongest power in the world economy and R&D, he or she should win this round. As you all know, COVID-19 has struck us really badly, and most of the countries are being affected, but some of them maintain well. China is one of them. For this country, they have a big chance of leading their countries to be more dominant than before. Today, I will offer 2 contentions as to why China will eventually overtake the United States and become the most dominant nation in the world. The first contention is America's reliance on China manufacturing. China is the lead of the manufacturing industries in the world. According to Times of May 14th, 2020, China produces 97% of America's antibiotics, and for Apple, most of their products are assembled in China. These are just 2 of the many examples. And in reality, not just America relies on China. A lot of countries also rely on China for their manufacturing power, such as Germany, UK, and Japan. Although most of the giant companies' headquarters are not in China, they still rely on China very much because of their cheap manufacturing cost. And because of this, there are some advantages for China to be the center of the world. China can indirectly control the world economy because most of the countries still need China to manufacture. Their products. Secondly, China is taking this chance to learn the new technology and skills from all around the world. The second contention is government policy during COVID-19. China is still aggressively investing money in R&D during COVID-19. According to Forbes on June 16th, 2020, the economist Richard Duncan said that while China is progressively investing in R&D such as 5G, new energy and new infrastructures, America focused on bringing back coal, raising the tariffs to charge China products to export into the US, racing against others for upcoming elections. The news also reported that if America invested $100 billion start from year 2021 for next 5 years, it is still impossible for United States to catch up with China. For the time being, President Trump does a great job on trade war with China, rising the tariffs to charge China over millions of dollars as nation's income, and having allies with countries such as Mexico and UK to fill the void for the absence of China. However, China becomes the main sources of medical supplies for the whole world because of its advancement manufacturing Technology and with a cheap price. China has also invested a lot of money in the new technology and new infrastructures such as e-commerce systems, online currencies, and online shopping and online hospitals. All of these investments, all of these investments in new infrastructures help China to operate safely while the pandemic is outbursting. While millions of people lost their jobs in America, which is very sad, China is still going on with their operations of business and create even more job opportunities for its people. China adapts well in the crisis because they are advanced in R&D. And because of that, China has moved on while America is still under hot water. It is pretty clear that sooner or later China will overtake the United States as the most dominant nation in the world because they have the strongest economy and R&D to back up during the crisis. And China will be the nation to stand up and lead the world to overcome the crisis and innovate new business models. So through these 2 contentions, I am proud to affirm that China will eventually overtake the United States and be the most dominant nation in the world.
