Kris, who is deaf and uses a cochlear implant, races stock cars with an FM system that lets him hear his spotter over engine noise. He feels the car's vibration on the track and pushes back against people who doubt what deaf people can do, saying limitations are self-imposed.
I was born pom-pom-pom in deaf.
This is called an FM system. Kris will connect this to his helmet. This wirelessly connects to his cochlear implant.
I turned down Cut the background noise. I turn my FM up so I can hear only the spotter and Susie. I can hear her engine. I can feel her vibrating. That's how I feel her car. Some people say no, they can't spot to me because they're uncomfortable with me because I'm hearing impaired.
May she help me and bring me here.
I teach kids, you can do what you want. Don't listen other people at all. You can't do anything you can't. I want to show them, "Thank him, I hope." What they're following me, it doesn't impact me, holding me back because of hearing impairment. People say, "No, oh, you can't do it." I don't mind. Okay, I can prove it to them that I can do it. If you want a better nation, you have to go get it. That's my goal to be an astronaut. That's what I want to be.
