A speaker finished a 105-mile race in under 25 hours and it changed how they think about what's possible. The two questions that stuck: "If I could do this, what else can I do?" and "If I could do this, then what can't I do?" Brian Tracy called the comfort zone the danger zone.
I went to the start line of this 105 mile race, and sure enough, in about 24 hours and 36 minutes, I completed it. And to answer your question exactly like, how do I prepare for these things mentally? When I crossed that finish line, Larry, this was something that is unfathomable to me. 105 miles. Oh, my God. But when I crossed the line, there was two questions that really came to me. And those two questions were, number one, if I could do this, what else can I do? And then, if I could do this, then what can't I do? So now, whenever I try to prepare mentally for things, I really just try to ask myself that question, and I try to say, let's find out what's possible. Because I think a lot of the times we like to stay inside of our comfort zone, because that's what we know. But no growth happens in the comfort zone. As Brian Tracy would say, the comfort zone is the danger zone. So that's really how I try to approach things from a mental standpoint.
