Over It In 23 Seconds

Sam tells stories about Art Williams and others bouncing back from setbacks in seconds, not weeks. A partner quits, a golf shot fails, you feel it, then you move on. The point: don't stay a victim.
Foreign Williams was talking to us and we were in the middle of a big battle and we were growing and we had the industry bringing breathing down our throat, but we were met, you know, we were growing like gangbusters. Things are moving very fast and furious for all of us. And for some reason, all Art wanted to talk about toughness or something, but I don't know what brought this out, but he said, you know, if my right hand man came in, and for the purposes of illustration, let's just call this guy Tom. Another Art and Tom story. And he said, if you know my right, he's been with me every day. You know, we've talked, we've communicated. You know, he's been a source of strength ideas. We bat that. We've gone through all the battles together and. But he said, if Tom walked in today and said, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, I'm quitting, it's got too tough or one thing and another, or for any reason I'm mad or I have a bad health or whatever, it doesn't matter that for any reason, if Tom walked in and said, I'm quitting, and especially right now where we're at such a critical moment, he said, let me tell you, he said my gut would just be tore up. I couldn't hardly. I couldn't think. He said it'd be like you stuck a knife in me. Yeah, it took. It's like he stuck a knife in me right in my gut and just rubbed it around and just destroyed me. And I, I would. I just couldn't, you know, be like my life falling off of Bill. My life. I'm seeing my whole life before me. You know, it's just like I don't know what's going to happen. But he said, you know, after about 23 seconds, I take a big breath, I forget about Tom and I go back to. Because the thing is, what am I going to do about it? He quit. He's gone. His decision, not mine. He made himself dead to me and everybody in our world. See, another thing is. It's another. Out on the golf course, we have a guy named Larry Stevens. I'll play golf with. We're playing golf with Art Williams, Larry Stevens, John Maxwell. A lot of y' all have heard of him. If we're out there playing, Stevens is, is always busting Art's chops. And usually it's the Larry and Larry team. So we're. Stevens and I play together. And he always has some kind of special challenging going. Challenges going on with Art all the Time. So there was one particular moment, and actually this happens quite frequently, where it'll get near, like the, you know, right near. The round's about over. 16th hole. Art's got a chance to wrap up the whole match. Hits a great drive. He can putt for eagle. He got a chance to putt for an eagle, win the whole thing. But he slops the putt up, rolls around, rolls out, and Stevens invariably will go, oh, wow, Art, I hate it, man. You came so close. I mean, he just. Hysterics. You came so close, Art, man, great try. That just kills me. And after about two beats, he goes, okay, I'm over it. Then he laughs real big, and we move on to the next hole. See, here's the punchline of. Here's the point of both of those stories, folks. As you go through life, you can't keep tragedy from happening, can you? Tragedy is going to come into your life, into my life. Things are not going to always go the way we want. You can't help it. But you can sure keep yourself from being a victim because you can decide how long you're going to let it keep you down. You can't keep it from happening, but you can keep it from keeping you down in all things business, your personal life. Don't let tragedies keep you down. Hope you enjoyed that. I bet you've got stories of your own. I'd love to hear your comments about that. Some of y' all may even know some of these incidents yourself. Learn a lot of lesson from just going through these things. If you like that, join us over on whydelonwinning.com we talk a lot about those things. And you can actually subscribe, if you haven't already, to these YouTube videos at White L Academy. Do it big, folks. The world needs winners. You need to win. But the world needs you to win, too. Sam.
