Fishing for BIG TUNA in 2022 with Mike and Mike

A conversational YouTube transcript of a fishing trip featuring Trotter and Michael (and captain Kevin) where they charter tuna (yellowfin and bluefin), experience seasickness, follow boat traditions (first-timer bite), and prepare poke/sushi from the catch. The clip mixes on-boat action, humor, and post-trip food prep and reflection on learning to fish.

Cool.
Like Mr. Wilson. You can call me Michael.
Michael.
How's that bird?
I've had better.
Next adventure.
What kind of stuff you want to do? I don't know, man. I was thinking you could. We can get out there, you know, plan something in the future. And you just show me how to do this, you know, because. Yeah, previously, since I was thrown off guard, kind of was into it with the wrong mindset and I wasn't really looking to learn. I still had a good time. Yep. So, like, if we could think of some things that I could do where you, like, show me how to do it.
Yeah, that's easy.
I think the simpler the better. You know something where.
Hold on a second.
Kev.
What's up, man?
Tomorrow morning.
What time? Three.
All right.
You have no idea how perfect this is. I got the perfect guy. I'll see you in the morning.
Bye.
So I'm hanging out with my boy Mike, and we're grilling and chilling, you know, having a great time. And, you know, we recapping the last trips and adventures we've been on. And, you know, in hindsight, every time I come back from a trip, I'm like, you know, that wasn't that bad of a time. So I was expressing this to Mike as we were reminiscing, and I'm like, you know what? Let's plan some future trips, you know, let's plan some things. I want you to teach me the ropes, show me the way. This is your lane and I'm ready to learn. And he agreed. He's like, you know what? I knew I would get you into this. We'll plan some stuff in the future. You know, let's think about some ideas of what you want to do in the future. Next thing I know, my phone rings.
Honestly, it couldn't have been better timing. Turned out to be my buddy Kevin, who is a tuna captain, runs a very successful charter company called Blue Line Charters. And.
We are gonna meet him at the boat at 3am And I don't.
Mean to toot my own horn, but if you have heard about me or have seen some things I've done in the past, I mean, I did catch an 11 foot hammerhead shark all on my own, so how hard could this really.
Be?
I was cool, but I'm a little nervous now. It's. It's been super wavy and bumpy and whatnot, man. How much longer till we get to where we gotta go?
Right on our first drift, screen lights up. We hook up in a nice yellow fin water for A little bit. Target species on board. Yellowfin tuna. Rule is, when you catch your first tuna, you got to take a bite.
Out of the heart. Got to take a bite out of the heart.
You got to take a bite out of the heart, bro. Mike, explain it to me. It's like. It's like tradition, man. It's what you got to do.
I didn't catch the tuna, though.
Doesn't matter. It's your first time out. First tuna on the boat. You're the new guy. You got to take a bite. Everybody does it.
Seriously. People do this? No. No. Yeah.
People don't do this, y'. All.
Not bad, right?
You're scared, bro.
White people crazy, man. Yeah. You're up.
I ain't eating that.
The other news is I found out I might be just a little bit allergic to the motion of the ocean.
Listen, we.
I prepared him. I told him it was going to be like this. We got drama. Me in him last night and again this morning.
Tomorrow we're going to have.
What do you do? I mean, sit.
Well, we got into a good yellow. Yellow fin this morning. First light got him in the box. Then we had to. We threw a bunch of Albies, which aren't. They're fun to catch, but it's not really what we're going for. And now we're just kind of struggle busting it through, trying to find some fish, man. We're marking some. They're just not eating.
Not what we're looking for.
I'm not reeling them in.
I got it. I got it.
Got it.
He's not even what we want. We're not even looking for him.
Yo, I don't have anything left in me, bro.
I thought we had a tuna. Felt like one, ran like one.
We got plenty of content for day one. We could have went back, had a great story, come back. Day two, now it's getting past this show.
He had a hard time with the seasickness and.
He threw up a little bit.
Bro. I feel way better on solid ground. Got some. We gotta. We gotta have a team meeting.
What we're doing currently in this situation is we are slicing up the fish and then we are putting the them into sandwich bags. And we are taking those sandwich bags, placing them in the cooler because later.
We'Re gonna have sushi.
He's supposed to say poke bowls right there.
We got to come up with a safe word or something. Cuz I understand that I'm gonna be out of my comfort zone with doing this, but there's a line like we have to assess the stuff situation. Be like, yo, did we get enough content for today? This motherfucker is about to die. Can we. Can we do something with what we got already and then roll? Because as uncomfortable as this is, I'm gonna be professional and do the job. But that was because I said six or seven times, bro, I cannot handle this no more. We gotta go. And it was like I wasn't even talking.
Shit's not funny. That shit was terrible.
Let's get him some food. Yeah, we're supposed to have that conversation as we're driving on.
Well, you know what? Okay, chef. So what concoction do we have going on here this evening?
We're gonna make some poke bowls. This is my preferred method of consumption. Pretty much you mix this in with some rice. You go, raw tuna, rice. I like to do like a sriracha, mayo, some wasabi, mix it all in.
And eat it up.
We could also just cut it super thin like we had it before and put it over some rice and call it good.
What do you think of the food? Yeah, I mean, it's actually really good. It's not in a bowl, because that.
Was what I was going to ask. Why do we call it poke bowl?
It's supposed to be in a bowl, but the Airbnb ain't got no bowls.
So we eating pokey plates.
We're eating pokey paper plates.
There we go.
It sounds better anyway.
Pokey paper plates, but not bad, amigo. Not bad. Yeah, man.
Looking forward to seeing this again tomorrow.
On the way back out.
So am I. So am I.
All the things you got. Motion ease, got nausea relief. Got Dramamine in them. All of it. No seasick today. Big fell.
Skunk.
It.
Grab the gas.
Somebody grab this gas.
Open the bell.
Oh.
Out.
I got one of your lines.
We caught him. We caught him. We doubled up. We got blue fin and yellow fit for the table. We're going to be eating good for a little while here.
Yeah, buddy.
More than a little bit of chaos today on the boat, which is what we like to have, and these guys got to experience firsthand, which is awesome. Yeah, definitely. The combination of it being a weekday and us being bearing that brutal weather out there. We had some rain, and then we had some really rough seas, and us kind of bearing that and pushing through is kind of what got us to where we wanted to be. So put us on the target fish and had a hell of a day. But, hey, man, I just want to thank you. Thank you. It was a good time.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Thank you.
All right, so what we got here is some of today's yellow fin that we caught. We're gonna cut it up in some nice stinks. We're gonna go black and white sesame stuff, seeds cooked in some sesame oil, which is over there.
We're going to sear it up real.
Quick and call it good, because you don't really need much more than that. We'll go some soy sauce after that, maybe some wasabi.
That's it.
A lot more fish and a lot less vomit. We put enough drugs in Trotter to probably kill a small country, but. But I think it paid off, man. We had Dramamine. We had some kind of bracelet he put on both hands and some kind of crazy hippie oil he put behind his ears. And he lasted a lot longer than he did yesterday. And he didn't puke.
So, I mean, count him up. At this point. I've got a hammerhead under my belt now. I've got large tuna under my belt. I mean, I am technically.
Catch me.
