Interview with TRISTAN JASS | Insane Trick Shots!

This is a YouTube interview (uploaded by TJ LaFaver on Sept 13, 2023) with trick-shot creator Tristan Jass. He describes pursuing college basketball, earning some college offers, and pivoting to prolific trick-shot content after a viral high-school video helped him get recognition. The transcript highlights his intense practice routines (sneaking into gyms, multi-day attempts), several standout shots (including an NBA Finals rafters shot that collabed with the NBA and reportedly got ~50 million views), a multi-day backflip/cartwheel trick that required more than 500 backflips of practice, his Kenosha, Wisconsin roots, and an affiliation/sponsored segment with First Form Energy. The interview closes with usual social-media CTAs.

We're trying to use my guy's back as a backboard. I've never done this.
Ow.
Hell, yeah.
You heard me.
Coming. That's what she said.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Welcome back into the post workout. We have a very special guest today. It is none other than trick shot extraordinaire.
Tristan Jazz. What up, my dog? Oh, good, dad. Just turn off the fucking baby. How are you, love? I'm doing great. How are you doing, bro?
I'm great, man. We at the hq, baby.
Yeah, that's what I love to see. I guess let's just start from the top. Your claim to fame is being a trick shot, basketball trick shot kind of guru extraordinaire. How'd you guys get into trick shots? Or, like, how did that kind of become a thing?
My whole goal was to play college basketball, so I knew I had to earn that college scholarship because my parents couldn't afford to send me to college. So I love basketball. I fell in love with the grind, fell in love with the working out. And I just saw myself progressing, like, every day, you know, just getting better and better and better. So I ended up getting a couple college offers out of high school.
You probably could have got more offers, but you're like a five foot five white kid.
And they're like, yeah, no, you're gonna be right. So, you know, we started doing crazy layups, crazy trick shots, just like your boys and shit. Yeah, dude. We would. Because they would go viral, right? All of them would go viral. And I was like, well, if they're gonna keep going viral and millions of people are gonna keep coming to my page. Yeah, we got to make every single video that we're doing better than the last one. Yeah, and let's just keep getting that fucking. Exactly, bro. Keep getting.
So do you, like, what was the first. Do you remember the first video that went viral?
So there's actually one video in particular that really helped me step up my, like, Instagram game. I was playing my teacher one on one in high school.
But I threw it out, brought the ball back, and he just, like, dove for it and somersault.
Oh, oh, oh.
He just told me. He's like, man, I don't care how embarrassing that video was. I don't care how many millions of people saw that video. He's like, as long as this video help you to get a little recognition. Because I was trying to earn that scholarship during that time. So he told me, I don't care, as long as this helps you get noticed. To earn a college scholarship. And that was some of the realest shit ever. Cause that video went everywhere.
So that was the first one to kind of like. Then you're like, we gotta keep.
Yeah. So I'm thinking, like, all of these millions of people are coming to the page. How could I get them to stay? So that's when the trick shots started coming in, like, heavy. We were doing them every night on school nights. We would sneak into a local college and this is a true story. We would go up to like the ballet room at like 9, 10 o'. Clock. Janitors would come in at 10 o', clock, lock the building down, close all the doors, and we would stay in the gym till like 5am on school nights, bro.
Dead ass and high school criminal on the show.
They might. They might know now. I don't know. I don't know. This is like. I'm like leaking all this information.
Maybe we should cut that part out there.
Leave it in, baby. Leave it in there. Leave it in.
I'll do my time.
Yeah, man. It's just all those hours of just like trying crazy trick shots and doing random with me and a couple of my buddies that like, really built that foundation from the start.
Yeah.
And we just been doing crazy, crazy, mind blowing ever since.
Which is crazy because, like, the Internet is kind of a funny place. And you put all your trick shots out there, even with like, multiple angles and people still you catch heat for people being like, yeah, this dog is using CGI and AI to make these guys.
Yeah, it's crazy, dude. That's one thing I've learned along this journey is people are so weird on the Internet, bro. It's.
Your daughter has a mustache.
What the hell is wrong with your ovary? Me?
Like, the. The most memorable or best trick shot that you've had. Do you have something that comes to mind at Summer Smash? You hit a trick shot from the Ferris wheel we had here. That.
Yeah, that was awesome. I would say my most favorite one is probably a recent one that I did at the NBA finals at the Miami Heat Arena. I was like, up in the rafters somewhere. The arena or up in the second concourse, whatever you want to call it. And I jumped off the side of this tunnel 360 and just launched it off the bounce off the backboard net. And that video probably performed the best ever. We did a Collab with the NBA.
And it was like, that's pretty dope.
50 million views.
Damn. Like, some of them are pretty intricate and they take a little bit of time. Like, what's the longest You've been out there trying to. Trying to get one to fall.
Yeah, man. Man. Probably the most attempts ever was probably when I hit a million followers on Instagram. I was like, I gotta do something crazy. So I was like, all right. I did gymnastics growing up, so I was like, I'm gonna do. I'm gonna cartwheel, pick up the basketball, and then hit a backflip and try to make it.
Throw it out the backflip.
Yeah. So I did that, and it was a couple days process because I had to kind of reteach myself how to hit a backflip while holding a basketball and tossing it up in the air while I'm upside down. So that one ended up taking three days. And I would say we worked each day, like, six to eight hours.
How many times? 10,000?
Hundreds? Thousands? You know, it was definitely like more than 500 backflips.
Damn. And I was thinking maybe we, you know, if you can help me get my cloud up, maybe put me in a trick shot.
I've seen all these other videos, and I've seen people just man the arena, baby.
I like to get in there, you know?
You know? All right, so this is what we're.
Gonna try to get some. I'm trying to get some clout, bro. So we gotta do it right.
Say less. So what we're gonna do is.
Hell, yeah.
Tell you less is I'm gonna hit a trick shot off your back. I'm gonna chuck the basketball at you. It's gonna hit your back, and it's gonna go in the hoop, and it's gonna go viral.
Does that look sick, Ben? I never did. Let's fucking. Do you think it's gonna work, though?
I think it's gonna work.
All right. Let's fucking ride.
Let's do it.
Let's go. Ride, son.
Here we go.
Oh, nothing but net.
Some pumps, baby. Should I pump them up? Yeah, let's pump them up.
We're trying to use my guy's back as a backboard.
Ow. Nerves.
All right, don't move, don't move.
All right.
Ow.
This one is. Oh, I thought he was with me for a second. Hell, yeah. I might get. I'm gonna get views. I'm gonna get. I'm gonna get money.
I've never done this.
Oh, so close. He feels bad, too. That one is the second hardest one he's ever thrown so far.
Oh, my God.
Are we getting close? Am I gonna get.
Oh, my.
Ow.
Yeah. Come on.
Okay. Yeah. Oh, my gosh. I feel so bad right now. It's okay.
Let's go, let's go. Did we get it?
We did it, baby.
Let's go.
Oh.
First trick shot off of a human that I've ever done. This dude was literally just eating balls, bro.
Oh, all right, bro. You're from Wisconsin?
Yes, sir.
Kenosha.
Kenosha, Wisconsin.
Wisconsin is known. The only thing I know about Wisconsin is cheese.
Big cheese, guy cheese, a lot of beer.
What's your favorite type of cheese?
I'm just like a straight American type of a dude.
I'm going to go like American cheese, American shredder. Yeah, I like a good Fonda.
Okay, I've never heard of that.
Never heard of what?
No. What is that?
What's that, flam? What is that, Famunda?
Yeah. Is that a. That's a type of cheese? Yeah, dude, I gotta try it then I guess you want to try some Fonda?
Cause you gotta get it from under my balls.
Gotti.
But I've never heard someone. Dude, you fucking got me, dude.
How did you get affiliate with first for me?
Yeah, bro, honestly, I'll say it right off the bat. It's just been life changing, you know, the core values, I think, are very important. I think everything you guys are doing over here is amazing. So I just needed to say that first, there's a guy out of Kenosha named Andre Adams. Yeah, I know Andre, and he's a Legion legionnaire. So he. He was like, hey, man, I'm going down to St. Louis to first for him. He's like, I want you to come with and see what. What they're doing down there. So we came down here with Andre, got a whole tour of the place. I got to hear what you guys are about. And like I said, life changing, mind blowing.
Would you mind if we do a sponsored segment by First Form Energy?
Yeah.
Because it's the best energy drink in the history of Earth. Sponsor segment is what's the weirdest shit in Tristan? Jasmine?
DMS. Weirdest thing in my DMs, definitely have gotten a lot of hate messages. If I'm posting like, I'm posting like a courtside. I'm courtside at an NBA game. I start on my feet and I move up. Someone's always like, dude, take your shoes off. Let's see those toes.
Just like, bro, let's see those toes, you dirty boy.
Like, I like feet. Like, what are you guys talking about, bro? So that. That is some weird shit that I'll get. Yeah. All right, Tristan.
