Leigh Thomas Brown tells real estate agents to set firm end times for appointments, not just start times. Say "I can meet at 3 pm and need to be done by 4:15 pm" to protect your schedule, respect clients' time, and prevent meetings from running over.

Need help with time management? Here is an easy tip to follow. You're great at making appointments. In fact, if you're a successful business owner, you have a whole calendar full of appointments. However, there's a flaw in your game. You've got a start time, but no end time. If you want to control conversations, especially when you're dealing with the general public in an emotional business like real estate, give an end time to your appointment. If my phone goes ringy-dingy, "Hey Leigh Thomas Brown, I want to go see this house in Concord." I can offer them an option. "Hey, I could see you at 3 o'clock or 4:30." Then they're going to pick a time. They'll say, "I'd like to take the 3 o'clock slot." Now, in their head, they know they have until 4:30, but that's not so, 'cause I have to get to my next appointment. Here's the next thing I have to say. "Great, I can meet you at 3 o'clock. I have until 4:15, because I'm going to have to make it to my 4:30." You have then set an expectation. And here's what happens in real estate. When you open the door to a house, Your people either love it or they don't. We know the eyes sparkle. There's something about houses that talks to people. If I see my client's eyes are sparkling, I'm going to be savvy and say, "Give me just one second," and push off that 4:30. And I'm going to call them and say, "Hey friends, I'm going to have to delay because I have to write this one up." And they will understand because people are amazing. However, if the clients walk in and say, "No sparkle, man. It's not our house." If they don't think I have anything else to do, People like to say, "Well, let's just look at it anyway, 'cause we're here." And then they spend 3 hours looking at a house they will never buy. That's not a good use of anybody's time. Not me, the REALTOR®, not them, the buyers, and not the home sellers who would like to come home and get supper out of the Crock-Pot. When you set an end time, you are honoring everybody's time. And that is one of the biggest gifts any entrepreneur can give to their clients. Same thing on a listing presentation. Too often realtors go and say, "I'll be there at 4 o'clock," and then they're there until 9 o'clock because they're visiting. Now, that can be your choice. However, if you'd like to get home and see your family before they go to bed, you can say, "I can start at 4, but I need to be done by 5:30." It will allow you to stay on point, allow them time to ask questions and receive professional service, and keep everyone in a great frame of mind
