You need to put down the social media. Do you need to step away from the doom scrolling that's eating your life up? For some of y'all, do you need to cut the news off and quit looking at it? 'Cause if it adds to your anxiety, you can't call somebody and cheerfully ask them if they have questions about real estate. 'Cause I will tell you, I get my inbox full every morning of headlines about real estate. I can't read some of them, y'all, because it's not helpful. It is wildly mis— construed in the media what we do and how we do it. Let me give you all an example of why the news is not your friend, okay? This is very important for your business planning that you get your time managed in your blinder zone. I read an article from a very well-known national publication written by a very esteemed journalist whining about how much money REALTORS® make. And their argument was in some states REALTORS® make this many dollars and in other states they make this many dollars. And this very astute journalist, and I have to use air quotes, 'cause this was the dumbest thing I may have ever read. I think I lost 8 brain cells listening to this. It said that you realtors in Massachusetts, you make more commission on a house than realtors in West Virginia do. Can y'all even imagine the level of stupidity it takes to write that in a national news article? Do they not understand cost of living, cost of real estate? I mean, come on. That is my example as to why the news is not your friend. And so if you want to get focused on your real estate business, you gotta cut some things off, say no to some things. For me, y'all may have already noticed on social media, I post and ghost. I love y'all and I gotta come back and I try to come back in and look at comments and see who's got something and send me a message. I love reading your messages, I really do. But I can't spend all day in there 'cause my day will be gone and I have clients that need my attention. So I post and then I get out, and I've turned all the notifications off on my phone.
