A single trusted expert making final decisions beats committee gridlock. The benevolent dictator approach appoints someone with domain knowledge and taste to cut through indecision while keeping the team in the loop.
Chapters
Benevolent dictator is just a catchy term for the fact that when you're doing this open coding, a lot of teams get bogged down in having a committee do this. We want everybody on board, we want everybody involved. And for a lot of situations, that's wholly unnecessary. You need to cut through the noise. In a lot of organizations, if you look really deeply, you can appoint one person whose taste that you trust. So it would be the person who understands the business. It's always a domain expert. Like, for legal, it would be a law person. For mental health, it would be the mental health expert. Oftentimes it is the product manager.
