Lenny Rachitsky and Tara Stashen discuss how product managers can push teams toward bolder, faster work without losing credibility. The trick is framing ambitious goals so people hear them as constructive, not as blunt demands to work harder.
I just had Tara Stashen on the podcast and she pointed out the job of PMs now actually more and more is to elevate the ambition of the team.
If you can do that credibly, repeatedly, you know, not just by like showing up to meetings and be like, what if we did more?
What if we did it faster?
Yeah. I've got white male, gray hair, you know, fancy degrees. I could just come into any meeting and be like, have you thought about doing this quicker? Like, okay, like, why don't I just put, have you thought about punching yourself in the face?
So that's the skill of saying that, but in a way that doesn't get you punched in the face.
