$2,000 in rent is not $2,000 in mortgage because the rent is the least you'll pay the mortgage. That's just the starting point before you start dealing with maintenance and repairs. And the H Vac went out and the roof needs to be replaced four years from now. I mean those are some big ticket items. I think renting has got a real bad rap in today's world and I hate that because I think renting is very wise and for a lot of people it does make sense and if you're living in a high cost of living city you're not entitled to be a homeowner. Like it's going to be harder if you're renting. Like if you want to move cities and a different job versus when you become a homeowner it's not easy to get out tax implications if you sell too soon. So it definitely complicates things. I know it stinks because you're like I'm not building equity but building that patience muscle is so important.
