DO THESE 3 Things For 7 Days & See INCREDIBLE RESULTS! | Lewis Howes

Lewis Howes lays out a seven-day experiment: prioritize sleep, make your bed, and move your body each morning. He pulls in research from Dr. Daniel Amen and Wim Hof, then expands the routine to cold showers, meditation, and intention-setting. Stick with it for a week, he says, and you'll see shifts in energy, focus, and confidence.

If we're not clear on what we want to create, where we want to go, what our focus is, where the target is, then we're in this. To set the stage here, it all kind of depends on where you're at in your life. It depends if you're in school, if you're a busy mom, if you're in your 20s and you're a career professional, the season of your life, how your morning routine is going to set you up for success. or not. And I want to talk about what the morning routines and habits that are necessary for success for me, from all of the research and testing that I've done. Waking up after you've had a full nights of sleep, getting eight hours, seven to eight hours is crucial for my success. Just a few nights ago, I was up until 3:00 a.m. for a specific reason. I was working late and I got maybe four or five hours of sleep and I could feel it throughout the next day. Whether I'm just getting older and I'm not 21 anymore and I can't pull all niners like I used to in college, or whether I'm just doing so much more during my days, I'm physically exerting myself, I'm mentally and emotionally exerting myself, my body and my mind needs time to recover. From Dr. Daniel Amen who talks about the brain and the science of the brain, your body and your brain needs to recover. You need sleep and you need restful sleep. Shawn Stevenson talks about this as well in interviews I've done with him about sleeping and how it's so crucial. And you can't really make up the debt of missing out on sleep. Say you get three hours a night for weeks and months, it's going to be hard on your mind and body. It's hard to make up that debt that you've accumulated from not putting in the time and the hours. from the longevity experts that I've had on and those talking about anti-aging, they all say sleep is one of the key ingredients to success in living longer, in living healthier, happier. So focus on sleep. Now, when I was younger in my 20s, I used to think that sleep is for those who are broke. Sleep is, you can sleep when you're dead. But I'm telling you, you're gonna be dying a lot sooner. if you don't sleep well consistently. And the brain, the heart, the body, everything needs time to recover. And this is when you're sleeping, your body is regenerating. So if you are putting in hours of training or emotional and stressful and mental exertion throughout the day, I'm telling you, your body and your mind needs time to cleanse itself. This is when you burn fat, this is when you recover, this is when ideas start to connect. But if you're not sleeping and resting well, it's going to be extremely hard to perform better the next day. This isn't just for someone that wants to live longer and happier. This is for if you want to be a high performer as well and have clarity and focus and energy and not have mental stress. The brain and the body needs to sleep. That's one of the first things I want to talk about. This is crucial. Some people say, well, I don't want to sleep six, seven, eight hours a day, but I'm telling you, you can get seven in, hopefully eight quality sleep. There are a lot of things you can do to track this. You can get the Oura Ring, you can get whoop bands, you can get other things to track the quality of your sleep as well. So I recommend figuring out a structure for you. We've got episodes on this talking about how to create a sleep sanctuary so that your environment, your bedroom, your sheets, the plants that are in your room are all designed for you to get great sleep. Make sure you're going through some of this and setting yourself up to win with sleep. Now, the next thing that I like to do and I think this is hugely important. This is something that my mom used to tell me and your mom probably told you growing up as well is to make your bed. And there is a great book by William H. McRaven that says it's about making your bed. And he is a Navy Admiral that talks about If you wanna live a great life, make your bed. And this is a massive number one New York Time bestselling book. This speech went viral online and it's something that is so simple. But sometimes we think about we've gotta have some complicated morning routine that biohacking everything we can in order to optimize our day. And really, when we go back to the basics, that's when you start to transform your life. Everything goes back to basics. So make your bed first thing. There's something that happens, and I started doing this years ago, there's something that happens when you decide to take pride in your personal space. When you decide to say, okay, I slept here, I slept here for six, seven, eight hours, and I wanna make sure I have a clean space when I come home at night. By doing that, you set yourself up for success. You accomplish something first thing in the morning. You build momentum and you create pride and confidence in yourself because you did something for you. You did it for yourself. So when you come home at night, you can say, wow, the time and energy I spent early in the day paid off for me at night. Now I can go to sleep in a restful space. So something to consider. Try this for a week. Make your bed every morning. It's the last thing you want to do. because you want to get up, you want to go to the bathroom, you want to brush your teeth, and you want to get on with it. But I'm telling you, if you take those two, three minutes, you come back at night, you'll be proud of yourself for what your past self did to help you in the future. The next thing is really moving your body. And this doesn't need to be some extreme workout. I like to work out early in the morning. I like to push my body hard in the morning because, again, the second thing is, okay, I've made my bed. I move my body in a physically demanding way. I like to create structured pain every single day for myself. Because when I put myself through safe, structured pain, a workout, sweating, movement of some type that's uncomfortable, I don't want to hurt myself, but I want to put myself through pain. It makes me live a happier, healthier life. You build confidence, you build momentum. It cleanses the your mind. Your mindset gets stronger as well. So exercise in the morning, move your body, take a 10-minute walk. If you've got a dog or an animal, you can take your pet for a walk for a few minutes and at least do something that'll help you cleanse your mind and get ready for the rest of the day. Next thing you can do is take a cold shower. This can be for one minute. We have an entire series of interviews with Wim Hof. and I do an entire breathing exercise. I went to Poland and trained in frozen rivers and climbing mountains in the snow without clothes on. I mean, I did the extreme things to test some of this. But it takes one minute a day to get in a cold shower. And it activates your mindset. It activates your body and opens your pores. It makes you feel awake and alive as opposed to groggy and just kind of getting through the morning, it wakes you up, it gets you clear, it gets you focused. There's so many benefits for your immune system as well by taking a one to two minute cold shower. Again, you don't need to be extreme and immerse yourself in a cold tub for 10 minutes. You don't have to do that. You can try these things. You can push your body and your mind to the boundaries, to the limits, but you don't have to. You can do a cold shower. You can do a hot shower and then the last minute, it can be cold to finish it off. Try it for seven days, just like making your bed. Try it for seven days and see what you can create. Again, we'll have more resources below in the description with Wim Hof and how you can watch more about that and learn more how you can take this on in your own life. And the next thing is you should definitely try some meditation. 10 to 15 minutes for me of breathing, meditation, clearing my mind, really setting an intention for the day, expressing gratitude, thinking about the things I really care about, puts me in a state of awareness. Because there is so much stress, overwhelm, distractions, media, news, frustrations happening in the world that can come into your mindset, that can come into your thoughts, and that can really take over your emotions and your feelings if you allow those things to come into your mind. And so you want to figure out a way to start the day with breathing and setting an intention for what you want to create. No matter what happens around you, how are you going to show up and respond? What is your vision? What are your goals? What are your intentions? What's the type of energy you want to show up with? Do you want to be a reactive, negative person today? Or do you want to be a joyful, loving, caring human being that shows up as a leader? And again, this is a habit that is important to form because if you're not forming the positive habit, then you're going to be extremely reactive to what is happening throughout the day. You're going to be frustrated, you're going to be pissed off at this person, someone's going to cut you off in traffic and you're going to be mad and angry. and that is going to lead into the rest of the day. It's going to be hard to get out of that. So you want to set yourself up. The next thing is really the intention beyond the breathing. So breathing allows you to again, continue to cleanse the body, cleanse the mind and create awareness for your life. Setting an intention during this breathing or right after this session is important. So what is your vision? What is your goal? Do you have a one sentence vision for your life right now? If you don't know what that is, write it down. Start exploring it. Create an exercise for yourself and say, okay, this is who I want to be. This is my goal. This is my vision. My vision is to inspire 100 million people every single week to help them improve the quality of their life. That is my mission. That is my vision. And I want to do it through being joyful, through being loving, through being curious, creative, and having fun. For me, I'm very clear and then I create the intention in the morning, well, what am I going to do today to support that mission? And more importantly, what am I going to say no to today that doesn't support that mission? What am I going to say yes to and what am I going to say no to? And when you get control around your vision, your mission, your goals and your intention, then you can start living an intentional life throughout that day. And this vision and mission and goals can change. It doesn't have to be set in stone for the rest of your life. It all depends on the season of your life that you're in right now. So this is just the season of life I'm in right now. When I was in college playing football, my goal was to be a professional athlete and that was my mission. How can I be in the best shape of my life? How can I be successful with my college team? How can we go to a championship? How can I get in front of professional scouts and how can I make it to the next level? It just depends on what season of life you're in. After that transition, when I left football and was trying to figure out how to get a job, my mission was how do I get off my sister's couch and get a job? Okay, what are the goals that I have on a daily, weekly, monthly basis? What are the things I need to learn? And then I took action based on that intention. So you got to think about what is your intention right now? and every morning just think about that. This doesn't have to be long, doesn't have to be 30 minutes of intention setting. It's just getting back to what is my intention today? How do I want to show up? And what do I want to create? Not what do I want to react to. When you come from a place of creation and that reaction, you're going to be making your life as opposed to really responding to your life in a negative way. So what does a morning routine practice actually do? How does it actually support you? Well, it sets the tone. Again, a lot of people say the first hour is one of the most important hours. It sets the tone. So if you're distracted, if you're groggy, if you're not moving, if you're eating bad foods, if you're on your phone laying in bed, if you're being negative, if you're sloppy, then more than likely you're going to create that day. It's going to be hard to get out of that. So it sets the tone for the day. The more positive the first hour, the more powerful the rest of the day. It'll make you more productive. It allows for you to really control your schedule and set your schedule as opposed to your schedule controlling you or you reacting to whatever's coming your way. And I love to have a clear schedule of the week. Exactly what I'm going to do. what is everything going to do to support me emotionally, physically, spiritually, financially, relationally? What am I going to schedule in? And I also schedule in leisure time, okay? I'm going to schedule these four hours, I'm going to do nothing, or I'll do whatever I want, or I'll just hang out with friends. I schedule it in that way, I'm just not distracted by my phone or whatever's happening in the world. I really try to eliminate the negative distractions from my life the best that I can. And in no way am I perfect, but it's something I try to focus on by having a clear schedule. So when I know where I need to be and I know where I need to show up and how I'm supposed to show up, it allows me to stay focused and it's going to be clearer and clearer towards my mission and my vision for life. That's why it's important to go back and write down what is one sentence your mission or your vision for this season of your life. Who are you? Who do you wanna be? What do you wanna create? What do you wanna accomplish and why? If you can get clarity on that in one sentence, then you'll create a schedule that supports that mission and vision for you and your life. So have a schedule. If you don't know what you're creating on a daily basis, you're gonna be responding and reacting to what life gives you as opposed to you creating what you want in life. It also sets you up for lower stress levels. And it can really lower your stress levels because you're accomplishing so many positive moments or tasks for yourself the first thing in the morning and you don't have to worry or think about doing them later. So if you're like, okay, I know I want to get in shape. I know I want to eat well. I know I want to drink lots of water today. I know I want to meditate. I know I want to breathe at some time. And you wait until after you're exhausted. You try to wait till six o'clock, seven o'clock at night when you come home from whatever you're doing at work or whatever you're doing, school. You're going to be tired. It's going to be really challenging to have focus and energy. This is why, for me, it's really important to learn the skill of Spanish. I want to become fluent in Spanish one day. That's one of my goals. and I was taking Spanish class in the beginning, the first six months, around 6:00 at night. Now, this was after a full day of work. This was after an intense workout, and my brain was fried. And I couldn't stay awake. I'd be in an hour session, and I'd be like over Zoom after I've done Zoom calls all day. And I'd be like this, trying to remember stuff. And after months, I was just like, I can't do this at night. so what I did is I started scheduling it at 8:00 a.m. and it's one of the first things I do at 8:00 a.m. I work on something that is meaningful for me, something I want to learn, a skill that takes and requires a lot of my mental energy. And by doing that first thing in the morning, it sets the tone for the rest of the day. I feel more confident, I feel like more productive and I'm doing something I care about first thing. And it lowers your stress so you can improve in other areas as well. So again, it's setting the tone. lowering your stress levels because you're not waiting to the end of the day. You're not like, I gotta do this thing later. That energy, that stress will hurt you in every other area of your life. You want to take care of your body, you want to take care of your mind in the morning, and it allows you to show up to love those things around you instead of taking out your emotions on people and experiences in your life. It also helps you improve your memory. So having the same routine has helped to show that it will improve your memory when you have the same routine consistently. Now you can switch up your routine, you can try things over time, but having something that's similar, I'm going to do these things every morning, it really helps you increase your memory. You're far less likely to forget things that you need to do because you know you have your day, your morning and how it's going to start so you don't have to spend a lot of brain power on it later. Oh, I got to still work out. I got to remember to do this thing. I got to do this thing over here. Like, you don't need to think about it because it's the first thing you do and you get it out of the way. So it's really helping you boost confidence in my mind this morning. I got up early, I breathed into some meditation, I made my bed, and I did a hard workout. And now I came here to the studio to talk about this. And for me, I feel confident. I feel like, man, I've accomplished so much before 10:00 a.m. I've already done so much. All the things that I care about, I've done and I feel more confident. This is what's powerful. This is what's available for you. If you feel like you're not a confident person, if you feel like you doubt yourself, if you feel like you're unsure of yourself or you're insecure, spend time for an hour, hour and a half in the morning doing some of these things and trying them, doing things that are uncomfortable for you, you're gonna build confidence in the first hour and it'll go into the rest of your day. So I'm far more confident in my skills and abilities as a creator, as a partner, as a friend, and as a leader because I know I put in the things that I care about first thing. So you wanna think about how can you make your morning routine and habits actually stick? This is a question I get a lot. and you don't want to throw everything on your plate at once. Okay, I'm going to do 20 things in the morning routine to optimize my day. It's going to be exhausting. You're not going to be able to do it. So we want to start small. Try two or three things in the morning. Don't go for hours, but just try two or three things. What are two or three things that take five to 10 minutes that you can do and track it for seven days and make it the most important thing that day. If you say, I'm going to do this first thing in the morning, really think about it the night before. I'm going to do this first thing in the morning. You do it every day. If you want to have a, you know, check it off or an X off a calendar or mark it somewhere on your phone to track it, you're going to see every day you do it, you build confidence. You're going to be being your word which builds integrity with yourself by just following through on these things. You're going to feel more productive after that first hour. So start small. and take it one day at a time. Start with seven days. Don't say, I'm going to do this for the rest of my life. This is my new routine. No, I'm going to try this for seven days and see how I feel. And then once you complete that, say, okay, let me try this for another seven days. And then keep doing it consistently seven days at a time. I really recommend finding an accountability partner that you can check in with every single day in person or even just a quick text message. So whether you're in a relationship and you're waking up next to someone and you say, Hey, can we do these three things for seven days? And just try it out as an experiment and you guys keep each other accountable. If you're living alone, text your best friend and say, Hey, for the next seven days, I want to challenge myself. If you want to join me, let's challenge each other. And I'm going to text you every single morning that I completed this. Can you hold me accountable? This will support you. Accountability is key. Accountability is key. I like to pay for accountability because it's even more commitment. So if I just have a workout partner, we'll commit to each other, but if I pay for a trainer or coach, I show up every time. So you want to stack the odds in your favor, whatever that looks like for you. And if you don't want to coach right now, if you can't afford that, that's fine. You can have an accountability buddy or a friend, and that works too. You can also post about it on social media and track your progress. there and say, Hey guys, I'm going to do a challenge. And here's what I'm committed to. That could help you be accountable as well. And if you know people who are waiting to see what you're sharing every single day and how you're going to run your morning routine, you're more likely to get out of bed and do these things because you don't want to let people down. So that's something you do is have the accountability. And there's lots of different stats out there about how long it takes to create a new behavior or to make it more automatic and more of the norm for yourself. But I've seen the recent studies say it takes 66 days for a new habit to really stick. What I would suggest is break it down into a week at a time. So seven days, I'm going to do this. Don't say I'm going to do this for 66 days. Say for the next seven days, I'm going to do this. And then do it another seven days. Think of it in weak chunks, not months and years, which can seem overwhelming. and you got to decide what you can commit to for at least 66 days so that it can really become part of your day where you eventually don't even think twice about it. So I get up and I make my bed every day because I've been doing it for so long now. I've scheduled in my workouts in the morning. Most of my workouts are in the morning. Some days I schedule it later in the afternoon based on my work schedule, but it's scheduled in. so I'm getting it done most of the times in the morning. You know, I'm drinking a glass of water before I have coffee or tea. And I'm scheduling the most important things in first scheduling and meditation. It's just part of the routine because I've done it for so long now. So people ask, what is, what does my morning routine look like? So I try to go back to the basics. You know, I've tried advanced things, I've tried tricky things, I've tried to biohacking, extreme stuff. But what I found works is the basics, the fundamentals, just like it works in everything. The fundamentals are key. Something that I'm a big, big fan of is perspective. Every breath I'm taking right now is closer to my last breath of my life. Every day that I wake up, it's getting me closer to my last day of my life. and I hope I live a very long time, happy, healthy and fulfilled, mission driven, purpose driven. That's my intention. But every morning I wake up, I wake up and I just say, thank you. Thank you for another day. Thank you for another opportunity to live my life, to experience connection with people, to experience the magic, the wonder, the adventure of this world. It's an incredible thing, what we're doing. We are a speck of sand floating around in a globe that is an infinite space, an infinite universe, and we are here for whatever reason to experience life. Thank you for another day. It gives me perspective. I woke up. A lot of people did not wake up this morning, and I got to wake up to experience it. thank you. It puts gratitude in my heart. It makes me in a positive mood. And I don't know many people. In fact, I don't know anyone who is negative that lives a good life. Again, back to the fundamentals. People say, well attitude is everything. I believe it's true. When you come from a place of negativity or lack or insecurity, fear, scarcity, frustration, anger, resentment, holding a grudge. When you come from that place of being, you attract more of it. When you come from a place, even if everything is going wrong in your life and you are frustrated, when you come from a place of positivity, people are drawn to you. You're a magnet for opportunities. You're a magnet for love, fulfillment, joy, financial success. You are become a magnet for more opportunities in your life. when you have a positive attitude, an attitude of gratitude, all these things which are fundamentals, basics, these are things we were taught in growing up in elementary school, all these things are key. And it's something that I continue to live by because it continues to bring abundance in my life, fulfillment, people, opportunities, connections to help me improve my mission in my life. so say thank you for another day and express gratitude and carry that throughout the day. Yes, there's going to be times where you're frustrated and sad and hurt. You're not going to be a robot, but I'm telling you the more you can focus on this as the foundation for your life, the more opportunities will come your way. So that's what I do as a first thing, say thank you. The second thing is I make my bed. We talked about before, making my bed cleans my space. It sets me up for the later in the day. gives me delayed gratification, which I get to practice consistently. When I make my bed now, I'm not rewarded until the end of the day. Okay, I made it, but I get to experience the joy of a clean space, pulling back the covers, putting my pillow down at the end of the day. So it's making a deposit now that I don't get the cash until later at night. And that helps train us to do challenging things now that will pay off months, years, decades in the future by being consistent in that simple act of making your bed is a powerful thing. I think about my goals and my dreams and what I need to create today to get closer to that. If we don't have an aim, Jordan Peterson talks about this in his book, 12 Rules for Life. If we don't have an aim, then we are wandering in no man's land. If we're not clear on what we want to create, where we want to go, what our focus is, where the target is, then we're in this wandering desert where things go to die, where vultures come to pick at you and attack you and take you down because you're not moving in a clear direction. you're wandering in a circle, you're sitting still, you're stuck, and that's where things go to die. This is where the vultures of life come to attack you. Negative people, negative opportunities, sickness, disease, bad decision making goes there. So you want to think about your dreams, your goals, your aim. You want to have a clear aim. And this doesn't have to be, well, my dream for the rest of my life is this. It can be, what's my aim for this week? What's my aim for this month? What am I trying to do today to get a little bit better and a little bit farther in my life? I think about my dreams and my goals, and then I have a schedule that supports this, and that's what's really key. I'm practicing gratitude because the rest of the day isn't guaranteed. I don't know if I'll be here in an hour. in a minute, I don't know. The body could shut down at any moment. I hope I live a long, happy, healthy, fulfilled, purpose-driven life. That's my intention. I'm setting myself up to live that way, but there is no guarantee, zero guarantee. So it's something I think about, practicing gratitude. And that's really the main things that I really think about. And the easiest, and people ask, well, what are the easiest and most important habits to start building. Going back to the basics, making your bed, drinking water. This first thing I do is I drink a tall glass of water. Most people drink coffee right away or tea. Tall glass of water. What that does, your brain and your cells need hydration. The first thing, putting something else besides water in your body first is not the optimal the brain needs to get activated through water. It feeds off water. So drinking water first will wake you up, will make you sharper, give you energy, give you clarity, give you focus. So I do this, then I sip on a bulletproof coffee after that. But water is the key ingredient for a healthy life. Then I'm making my bed and I'm focusing on how can I get eight hours of sleep. I don't get 8 hours of sleep every night. I try to, I try to focus on it, but life happens. Sometimes it's 6 and 1/2 hours, sometimes it's 7 hours. My goal is always 8 hours. And again, this is not going to be a perfect routine every day. Life happens, but when you set yourself up for structure and success, you'll be more likely to accomplish it and feel more productive. Every time I follow this routine and I do it, I feel like I have a great day. Even if the rest of the day doesn't work out as planned, at least I spent the first hour meaningful doing the things that matter. So getting eight hours of sleep from all the longevity experts, from all the doctors, from all the health experts, the brain experts, this is about recovery, recovering your mind, allowing your mind to dream, allowing your mind to cleanse itself, your body, your cells to heal. You need this time. especially with the demands of what a human being has today over 1000 years ago. There's more demands and stress than ever before. Going for a walk, if you're not used to exercising, I like to exercise, I like to push myself and have structured pain, but if that's not where you're at in your life right now, then go for a walk. Get a brisk walk. 10-20 minutes is key. Question people have is describe how you were before and then after you developed strong routines. For me, when I don't have my routine in place, or if I'm traveling and my routine's off, I can feel my day is off. And before, when I didn't make my bed, when I get up late, when I not sleep well, it was just, again, I wasn't as productive, I wasn't as clear, I wasn't as focused. I could still get things done and have good days and things like that. It's not like my day was going to be horrible. if I don't have my morning routine, but I just didn't feel like I was living up to my fullest potential. And I'm a big fan of getting as close to your full potential as you can on a consistent basis. We're human beings. We're going to make mistakes. We're going to fall off things. We're going to slip here and there. But before, I wasn't really able to have as much clarity and focus and structure. It just held me back and structure always supports me in moving forward. so in terms of mindset, health, everything, it's been a lot better with morning routine. And when I started to develop some habits and routines, I felt better waking up each day. I was able to focus more on my business, my relationships, and everything started to get healthier and stronger. So that is the answer to that question. And it's okay to get off track sometimes, but I found that this two day method by YouTuber Matt D'Avella that I really liked. He has this two day method and we'll see if we can find this video and link it up in the description. But Matt says that he never skips the thing you're trying to accomplish more than two days in a row. So again, life happens, you're traveling, you're up late, you had to get up early for something and you didn't get to do your morning routine. don't do that two days in a row. And this is something that's important. Again, it may be something as simple as going on a 30-minute walk and one day it's raining and so you don't go. But the next day you've got to find a way to take that walk, even if it's raining and even if you're not set up for success and you don't feel like going, you can never miss two days in a row. a row. That's key in that strategy with math. I want to share a few ways that I've used the law of attraction in my life. I want to talk about some of the habits we're going to go into here in just a moment as well. For me, I've used the law of attraction to really manifest different accomplishments and new experiences in just about every area of my life. Health has always been important to me, but that doesn't mean it's always easy. And I use strategies, I use structure and I use accountability to help me be consistent with my health. Because it's one thing to just think, you know what? I want to help a healthy body, I want to be stronger, I want to be faster, I want to be more athletic, I want to accomplish my athletic goals. It's one thing to say that, to visualize it, which is something that I do, which is part of the law of attraction. But man, especially if you've got a busy life, if you've got responsibilities, if you've got kids, if you've got work, if you've got, there's only so much time to really attract the things you want and take action on those things on a daily basis. So I'm a big believer in creating structure in your life and scheduling the most important things for you on a daily basis, creating goals for yourself and having a coach, an accountability buddy, someone you hire that shows up for you. So in my health, that's what I do. I've got a boxing trainer to help me improve a skill there and also get a good workout. I've got a lifting trainer as well. I schedule it in. I make time. Sometimes I have to do it in the middle of the day, in between stuff of my business. Sometimes it's got to be early in the morning. Sometimes it's got to be at night. It's not always this most easy, ideal way of going about it, but when you want to create more in your life, when you're trying to be a bigger leader, there's going to be more pressures and responsibilities that show up with that effort. And so it's figuring out what is the most important things to do with my time, how do I schedule this in, how do I create accountability so I make sure I show up for my dreams and my goals so that when I look back three, six, 12 months of taking consistent action, things are manifesting and I'm attracting them because I'm showing up consistently. And success was always something that I dreamed of growing up, But in my early 20s, I struggled a lot from it because I wasn't really sure. Like after sports was done, I had to kind of refigure out how do I apply this into life? How do I apply this into making money, into relationships? Because for me, it was all about sports and I had the structure, I had the accountability, I had the coaches, I had the team. After that, I didn't have that. So I had to transition. I had to let go of an old identity that I was holding onto, this identity of being an athlete of trying to go pro. And once that was done, I had to shed the old identity and not hold on to it. Otherwise, I would be suffering. I would be depressed. I would be in negative thinking. I'd be thinking that I wasn't enough, that no one cared about me because they only cared about the old me. So I had to let that go and so I could start attracting from a new space, a new identity. Another question that people like to ask me is how did you use the law of attraction to start achieving success? when starting out as well as in the current moment. So how did I achieve success starting out? And also, now how am I using it to accomplish what I want? Now, relationships are what matter most to me. A friend and mentor and coach of mine, Chris Lee, says that the key to success in life is relationships. And the key to successful relationships is vulnerability. And it's something that I truly believe in. If you want to get super connected to someone extremely fast, be vulnerable right away. And that'll open you up and that'll create that trust and relationship with another person to be vulnerable as well. So relationships are what matter most. Health, business, life. It stems from relationships, from family, friends, finding the right partner. You know, if the relationships are in constant breakdown, your life will be in constant breakdown. It'll be hard to manifest what you want and attract the things. And I believe this area is often overlooked. and people don't realize that you can really create more control over the relationships you put the energy into. And it all starts from your intention. It all starts from the way you communicate. It starts with how you show up for yourself and the relationships with yourself. But the way I started to do it early on was kind of what I've been talking about already. I truly get so clear on my goals. I get very clear on what I want to attract and I think about it. I write it down. I'll create a certificate of achievement. I'll hang it on my wall. I'll put it on my phone and say, this happened. I sign it. I put the date of when it's going to happen. And I really reverse engineer and say, what are the actions to attract this goal? What are the actions to attract this goal? Who do I get to become? You know, it starts from the way of being. It starts from your energy and your intention first. Then that energy goes into the action. So if you have a negative energy, but you're taking action every day, you won't attract the things you want and be fulfilled. Maybe you'll attract some certain things, but you'll still feel this negative lack of fulfillment because it wasn't coming from a place of joy, of gratitude, of appreciation, of growth, of possibilities, of creativity, of service. And that's when you really shift from that intention and that energy from those places as opposed to, I'm doing this to prove others wrong. I'm doing this to show my parents that I could do this. I'm doing this to look good. I'm doing this because I want to have all these awards and show it off. When you come from that place, you can accomplish what you want, but at the end of the day, are you truly going to be fulfilled? And that's something that we've all got to learn the hard way if we're not willing to come from joy, passion, gratitude, and service. Another question someone might ask is how have you used the law of attraction when it comes to your friendships, business, relationships, partnerships, and other relationships? At this stage of my life, I've learned a lot about relationships and I have a long way to go to learn more about relationships. But I really think about in friendships, does this person think a similar way as me? Does this person on a similar path of service? Is this person have a good heart? Do I have fun with this person? Can we have cool activities together that we share and enjoy? And I think about that. You know, is there a natural flow to our friendship? Is there a give and take that we both have? Or am I the only one that gives and they take? I think about these things and I try to create alignment with friends. Okay, cool. We're on a similar journey. Maybe they're in a completely different industry or career path, but if we have a similar philosophy and we have and energy, I like to be around positive people. So I attract friends from that same place of positivity and gratitude. In business partnerships, I think about who are the partners who will compliment me, not similar to me, but who would compliment me, who have other skills and assets that I don't have. And I think about what am I really talented at? How can I be a driver of this business and the skills that I have? and how can I find a compliment partner who can support the things that I'm not good at? I think about that there in relationships. I really think about a lot when it comes to more intimate relationships. And for me, it starts with the foundation of four key things: spiritual connection, mental connection, emotional connection, and then for me also the sexual connection. But the foundation on the first three first, if you can build from that place and and have a similar mindset, similar values, similar vision, that's what I really look for in more intimate relationships as well. Do we have those four foundational points in common? Are we aligned on these things? Do we have our values aligned, our vision aligned for what we want to create in a relationship? For me, that's a big part of it. So creating from that space and attracting from that space, and that means being very courageous with your words. very courageous in your communication and saying, this is exactly what I'm about. This is what I'm looking to create. This is where I'm going. This is my future and what I see for myself right now. Here's my values. Speaking from a place of integrity, speaking from a place of courage to almost say, can this person hang? Can this person keep up with me? Because this is what I believe. Not hiding those things, but putting yourself out there. you'll either attract or you'll repel. And it's better to repel quickly than keep some things hidden for a year or two and realize, oh, we don't align. So be courageous with your words, be courageous with your actions and your feelings towards that. Another question, how did you visualize the School of Greatness book being at the front of the table in bookstores? So I remember for years, Back in 2007, I read a book called the 4-Hour Work Week. And I remember at the end of this book, and for most people that listen or watch the show, you know it's hard for me to finish books. I talk about this all the time, you know, growing up being dyslexic, having a second grade reading level when I went into the eighth grade and got tested there. And so it's taken a lot for me to want to finish a book. I skim a lot, you know, I research and I go through the books, but it's a lot for me to start from word one to the last word and read every word without just skimming it. In 2007, I read a book called the 4-Hour Work Week. And I remember at the end, I remember shutting the book and saying, wow, this is inspiring. It opened up something new for me that I never knew was possible. This kind of online world that I started going down the rabbit hole and really researching more about it and reading blogs and articles and trying things from onward after that. This is the end of 2007 and Christmas time. And I remember closing the book and saying, one day I'm going to meet Tim Ferriss, the author of this book, and I'm going to connect with him. We're going to be friends. I'm going to do business with him. And also, whoever the agent is for this book, one day I'm going to write a book that's going to be a New York Times bestseller and this agent for Tim is going to be my agent as well. I remember a few years later, I ended up meeting Tim. I ended up meeting Tim's agents. A few years after that, I kept creating, I kept showing up, I kept building myself, my business, my brand, that eventually his agent was my agent. And I remember saying to him, I want to write a New York Times bestselling book that does something similar to the book that I read years ago, where it unlocks possibilities in other people's life. It helps them create something new. It helps them see something different they never saw and they can take action from that place, from a new possibility. And I did this on a consistent basis. And when the book came out, the book was front and center in all Barnes & Noble's right when you walked in. It was a New York Times bestseller and it closed the loop for me visualizing this. I think it was seven or eight years prior where I had this dream of writing New York Times bestseller. of doing stuff with Tim Ferriss of his agent being my agent and changing millions of lives. So the idea was planted. The seed was planted then. When I had nothing, when I was, you know, I had a cast on my arm, I was just had a surgery, I was sleeping on my sister's couch, I had nothing. There was no evidence, there was no proof, there was no results that would show that I would write a New York Time best-selling book. There was nothing. There was no evidence that I had the skills. There was no evidence that I had the resources, the talent, the time to get his agent as my agent to write a great book, to be able to market a book. I had no audience, I had no following. But the seed was planted at that moment and I wrote it down and I visualized it often. And I said, who do I need to become? What do I need to create? What do I need to what I need to let go of in order to take the right actions to attract this dream. And if you haven't got the book yet, make sure to check out the book School of Greatness and get it anywhere. You can go online, go on Amazon, go to bookstores, check out the book. And I hope this gives you some principles, some ideas, some strategies to help you attract more with the Law of Attraction from yourself. We talk about Really the eight key principles that we've dissected from all the different interviews in the School of Greatness podcast, from all the greatest minds in the world. It's dissected into eight key principles here in the School of Greatness. So if you want to create more abundance in your life, make sure you check out this book, buy a copy, get one for your friends, and devour it. Go through it. Another question, how do you visualize the School of Greatness becoming a TV show? This is interesting. This must have been seven or eight years ago as well. I was traveling and doing more public speaking at that time, kind of getting started in my public speaking career. And I would go to all these different hotels around the country. And I remember when you turn on the TV in a hotel, it usually starts at channel one. You see kind of the first eight to 12 channels right away when you scroll through the TV guide. And I remember seeing PBS is usually in the top 10 channels. PBS channel. And I would always see this talk show, this talk show with inspiring people, the host and inspiring people. And I was like, huh. I'd watch this talk show and it would be back-to-back hours. Pretty much every major city I went to in the middle of the day, I'd see these back-to-back hours for this talk show on PBS, public television. And I said, man, my show had just gotten started at that point, the School of Greatness. And I was like, I feel like I could do this. I mean, I'm getting similar type of guests. Like the conversations are just as powerful like, huh, why couldn't I be on PBS? Why can't we create this? We already have the content. And I remember if the seed was planted then, I saw it and I said, okay, this is something I want to create. I have no clue how to do it, but what are the steps to get to get me there? What do I need to do? Who do I need to become? What I need to let go of? what insecurities, what do I need to build in order to attract this? In order to say, PBS is going to say yes when we come to them or they're going to approach me. And seven, eight years later, we are now on public television, on PBS, around the country. And it was a process. It was a journey. It took time. It didn't happen overnight. Some things happen quickly when you start to apply the law of attraction. The bigger goals and dreams, sometimes it happens quickly, but sometimes it takes years. It really all depends on where you're at in your life. But it happened and now we're there and it's a beautiful experience to see again, closing the loop from a seed that was planted six, seven, eight years ago is now happening, is now manifested, is now blossoming. And sometimes when we plant the seed, it doesn't grow overnight into this giant oak tree. It takes time to fertilize and build and water. And that's you developing new skills, overcoming challenges, becoming a better version of yourself. So if you want to check it out, make sure to go to lewishouse.com/watch and I'll show you where you can go on your local TV station to check out the show on public television and PBS all around the country as well. We'll have that linked up in the description below also. I want to talk about daily habits to make the law of attraction really stick. Now, we all have busy lives, like I said, and it's not easy to break old habits or create new habits when we have responsibilities, a busy life, and you feel overwhelmed or stressed already. But there are some daily habits that you can really introduce to start utilizing the law of attraction. And step one is to visualize what you want in your life to look like the first thing in the morning. what do you want your day to look like? How do you want to feel throughout this day? Starting with this and taking it one day at a time will eventually begin to compound and you'll have weeks where you're becoming the type of person you really want to become and you'll see it to manifest over time. Step two is to write down your goals for the day. Now, this is something that I do for my dreams in the future that is big dreams goals, but also what do I want to accomplish today? And doing both of those, the kind of longer, bigger dreams, but also what's the daily goal? When you do that and once you see it in your mind and put it in paper so you can remember it, it helps you revisit it to track your progress when you do this process. So really focus on writing down your goals daily and also thinking about what are my long-term goals and dreams, what am I doing to show for them daily? Step three is to speak it out loud. Like we mentioned earlier, what if you said to yourself, I am enough. I am worthy of love. I'm going to serve my community today with my business or with my talents or my gifts. And saying these things out loud to yourself is like training your brain to actually believe it. And then when you say it and you follow through on the actions you commit to that you write down, you start to believe it even more. And step four is to reflect at the end of the day on how your day went. Thinking about your visualization in the morning, writing down your goals and the spoken affirmations, tracking your progress to see how your life is changing in real time. And you can really start to see these things after a week. You implement this consistently for a week, you start to say, huh, I feel a little bit different. I got a little different result today from my friends and my family and relationships. You start to see these things happening pretty quickly. And when you do this and you track the progress, it will hold you accountable and it'll be amazing to look back on in a month from now. One of the mistakes I see most often is not getting clear about what you truly want. Now this is tough because in this time during our life, there's a lot of distractions, a lot of opportunities, a lot of things that people want to do at once. but if you're chasing so many things at once, you'll never really create and catch the one thing you want to get. People will hear about manifesting and start to say things like, well, I want more money or I want to become the most physically fit version of myself. And then they leave it at that. And if you think or speak in those general terms, then not much happens when you do that. Here's the key. The more specific you are, the more likely the actions you take and the energy you put out will help you achieve that goal. It's all about the specifics of this. Remember when I said, when I closed the book up and I said, I am going to meet Tim Ferriss one day. His agent is going to be my agent. I'm going to write a New York Times bestseller that's going to change millions of lives around the world. I was very specific about my vision, about my goals, about manifesting what I wanted to create. And this happened. This happened specifically. I've done that in many different areas of my life. And if you aren't clear, you'll continue to go down multiple distraction paths instead of one focused one. You'll start to see opportunity after opportunity and you'll put all your energy spread out as opposed to focused on growing in one area to start. So you need to really sit down and really think about this and get as clear as possible. That's why it's so important to write down your goals and be specific. Write down on the dates by when, when do you want to manifest this by, when do you want to create this by? One of the biggest mistakes people make after getting super clear on their dreams is not taking any action at all. So I'm declaring, I'm going to go create this goal. It's going to happen. And then nothing happens because you can't just visualize and write down your goals and say your affirmations and look in the mirror and do this and expect all your dreams to come true. You cannot do this. this all the time with people sharing their big goals on social media. I'm going to lose a hundred pounds by this date. I'm going to create this much of my business and they start to speak it. They write it down. They got their vision board and you see it all over social media and they never see them share any actions. After the first week, they take action, then it gets hard. They usually don't have the other things in place. The structure, the accountability, the coaching, the support, all the things you need to really support you in consistent action, the disciplined of consistent action over time. And those are the things that will support you with your goals. Now, I don't want this for you. I don't want you to just have these dreams and then them not be manifested. The practices we've spoken about help you get clear. So I don't want you to just think about this and visualize this and not get the results you want and be a magnet of attraction. the practices we've spoken about help you get clear and in the right mindset. But you have to be willing to take action for anything to actually happen. And you have to do this consistently. When I think about the results we've created in the School of Greatness, eight and a half years over 1100 episodes, the consistency is something I tell people. They say, Louis, what's the secret to the success of the School of Greatness and how you've got our 400 million downloads? how it's one of the biggest podcasts in the world, one of the fastest growing YouTube channels. Now it's on PBS and public television. You've got a New York Times best selling book. You sell at your conferences. You've got all these opportunities. 7 million followers on social media. What's the secret? I literally sound like so boring when I say, you know, I just show up every day. I show up consistently every day. And I've been doing it for over eight and a half years consistently. And before before that, I was doing it for 20 years, developing myself as an athlete, learning about goal setting, confidence, teamwork, skill sets, all that stuff. But the key has been showing up consistently daily for eight and a half years. That's what I do. The consistency of it is the magnet, is what attracts people, is what creates respect, creates trust, creates authority, all these things in the space that you're in. So you want to think the action that goes in with this. Don't overwhelm yourself by thinking you have to go extremely crazy right off the bat. And I'm going to eat perfect seven days a week, I'm going to train like a machine, and I'm going to get 12 hours of sleep and all these things, you're probably not going to be able to sustain that within two weeks. But getting started and being consistent is the key. So anything is better than nothing when it comes to moving your body. and the next thing is really to focus on your diet. I know when I'm not eating clean consistently, I kind of take the 80/20 approach for nutrition and food. 80% of the time I try to eat as clean and healthy and organic as possible. 20% of the time I'm traveling the weekends, I have more sugar and desserts and things that I know aren't the best for fuel for my body. they taste good and I give myself that balance. And you can work out all you want, but you can't outwork your mouth, that's for sure. You cannot outwork your mouth. You can train for an hour and then if you're having all this cakes and cookies, it's not gonna do anything for you. You're actually not doing any favors for yourself. You might be maintaining, but you're not really improving. And our guests all the time talk about eating things like, I've asked so many different scientists, doctors and nutritionists about the top foods you should be eating. And they all consistently say blueberries, foods that are high in omega-3 fatty acids like salmon and walnuts and avocado oil, dark chocolate, the list goes on and on from there, leafy greens, all that stuff. But eating more of those things, adding more of those things into your body will support you. And you don't want to put in so much effort in your workout routine and then just go have alcohol and sugar and pizza every night. That's not going to really support your growth. You can have cheat meals in moderation or you can just call it balanced meals in moderation if you don't want to call it cheat meals. I do the balanced 80-20 kind of percent rule. And having a clean diet, but having a clean diet will not only serve you physically and your health, but also in your mental health because we've talked about so many different experts that have come on and share that the foods that actually increase your mental health and affect your mood. We've had a lot of these different doctors and nutritionists come on and talk about that. And when you're eating poorly, it can increase the feelings of depression, anxiety and stress. And I believe we're starting to really understand more about how much our diet really affects us, how much food really can either hurt us or heal us. so for your future self, it's best if you focus not only on putting your body through the workouts, but also giving your body the cleanest foods possible to eat. Which brings me to habit number seven, the power of breathing. This is something that I really started to practice in sports, but didn't start to really learn how to, I wouldn't say I call myself a master at this, but it really didn't start to learn how to master breathing until five years ago when I went to India to study for two weeks meditation and then becoming a meditation instructor. And then from there meeting with Wim Hof and doing the Wim Hof breathing techniques, then interviewing James Nestor talking about breathing. Andrew Huberman, the famous neuroscientist from Stanford who talks about breathing in the brain and how it connects to the brain and the body. connection and really the deeper that I've gone down this rabbit hole of learning about the mastery of breathing and applying it to myself, I've noticed incredible results. And it's like I'm noticing it quicker and quicker. So it's been really helping me improve my peace, improve my mental health, improve my mood just with breathing. And that is a powerful tool. You don't need anything. You don't need to buy anything, you don't need to eat anything, you don't need to do anything different. In a few moments, you can change the way you feel through your breath. And breathing is the number one way to give your mind a reset and to get you back into a balanced, peaceful state. When you're nervous, stressed out, feeling overwhelmed, or catching yourself overthinking something or overanalyzing breathing exercises can help you get back to calm and control. And that's what this is all about. The power of breath is that it lets you steer your energy. It lets you get back on to habit number one, your vision, as opposed to being distracted, stressed and overwhelmed. And I did this as an athlete. I would do this going up for big moments in a game in football. breathe slowly. You know, I've had different sports psychologists come on and talk about how in practice you want to actually get yourself up and practice like it's a game. And when you're in a game time situation, you want to slow down because you have so much adrenaline, you want to calm and slow down. So I do that as an athlete before I get on stage. Right before I really try to think about how do I slow it down because I know when the lights turn on, when the music gets on, I'm going to be hyped. I'm going to be pumped. But how do I slow down so I can communicate my message effectively as opposed to being all anxious and excited about it? So I want to share three steps to properly help yourself incorporate breathing into your day today. Number one is to bring awareness to your breath. So really just think about it and bring awareness. And when we're breathing all the time, all day long we're breathing, but we're rarely paying attention to it. We hardly really think about it, but when we think about it by taking a moment to bring your awareness to your breath just as it is, you can get out of your head and into the present moment. So when you're focused on breathing and that's all you focus on, and see how it feels in your body, see how it feels in your mind and your heart and see how it's naturally calming your heart rate. You can actually feel your heart rate go down and you put your attention on that activity for 60 seconds. You can eliminate other distractions by putting attention on that and get back into a rhythm that will help you in that moment. This habit is great for when you catch yourself overanalyzing things, stressed, anxious, worried, uncertain about the future. Just turn your focus back to your breath. and temporarily let go of any other stress. The second part is to focus on and lengthen your exhale. This is something I learned in India when I went there five years ago. They take inhales through the nose and whatever the time amount through the nose, they teach you to practice twice as long exhale out of the nose. So if you're taking an inhale for two counts in the nose, Four counts out of the nose. And by repeating that process, it will calm your heart rate, it'll calm your mind and get you back into a peaceful state. If you just repeat that process over and over again, or it could be four inhale, eight out, three inhale, six out. The exhale is just as important, if not more important than your inhale. so drawing out your exhale will slow your heart rate down and again bring you into a calmer state of mind. And number three is to use a deliberate sigh. So Dr. Andrew Huberman, who is a neuroscientist from Stanford who's been on the show a couple of times, showed me an exercise that involves breathing with a double intake and an extended exhale. So still the same extended exhale, but a double intake. And by doing this exercise for just two or three cycles can really help you calm down and also expands the oxygen level in your body as well. And I urge you to try it a few times during the day when you feel overwhelmed. I've been doing this a lot since he taught me. It's simply you breathe through the nose with a double inhale like this. So a double inhale. and twice as long exhale that way. By doing that a few times, it really opens up the oxygen level, calms you at the same time. So practice that a couple times throughout the day. Habit number eight. This is huge. Again, this is no secret, this is no crazy hack. It's just sleep more, sleep more, recover. Your body is going through so much every single day, especially with In the last 20 years with all the data and information we are consuming from our smartphones, from computers, we're getting so much data points every day, the body needs more rest. We're working harder, we're trying to be more productive, we're trying to squeeze the juice out of life more. Whether it's play, work, relationships, we're squeezing more juice out of life and we need proper sleep to recover. We're staying up till 2 or 3 a.m. and feeling exhausted from the day and anxious about tomorrow, then we're going to be in a sleep deficit and we need to get back on track with our sleep. So here's a few ways to start getting better sleep. Number one, stick to a sleep schedule as often as you can. Now this can be hard if you're traveling, I get it. But as often as you can, try to go to bed at the same time. Proper sleep recovers and refreshes your mind. So the next day can be stress-free. But it's important to say, okay, I'm going to be in bed by 10 every night or 11 every night or whatever that time is for you. So you have a schedule so you know you're going to get these certain amount of hours you need. Number two, pay attention to your diet that day. Try not to have big heavy meals before sleeping and also try to limit your caffeine intake after, I would say, 10:00 a.m. to noon. You don't really want to have caffeine after that. The research has shown it's going to make you harder for you to go sleep at night. Number three is creating a peaceful environment for your sleep is crucial. My friend Shawn Stevenson talks about this in his book Sleep Smarter that you want to create a sleep sanctuary. You want to make sure that your bedroom where you sleep is a sanctuary for you to shut off and go to sleep. And that can be hard for some of us as we work from home, we sleep at home, we work, we've got a lot of activities happening in the same place. It's hard to really shut it off when you're used to picking up your phone in the morning or being on your phone at night, watching TV in bed, or doing all these other things in your sleeping space. But you want to create a sleep sanctuary. You want to create a routine that helps you separate yourself from the other areas of your life like taking a bath. It'll help you rest and recover better. So what is the routine? What is the sanctuary that you're going to create? The environment of peaceful, restful sleep. sleep. It's one of the most important things you can do. And as an athlete, I used to sleep a ton. I knew the importance of sleep because your body would be so sore. We would take naps. We would sleep as much as we could. I used to sleep in as long as I could to get that quality sleep. As a business leader, when I'm traveling, I know now I'm not 21 anymore. I know the importance of my sleep. Even if I get two or three hours less sleep than I'm used to, it will affect me on the caffeine, there'll be other things you'll need to supplement. It's important to know that if you are living a high performance life, if you are trying to squeeze the juice out of life, if that's the season of life you're in right now, you've got to make sleep a huge priority for yourself. So you have the energy, the focus and the clarity to move towards your vision. Habit number nine. This is a big one. It's a big one because a lot of people don't like to do this. is to take responsibility for yourself, for your actions, and keep yourself accountable. Now, it's easy to be the victim. It's easy to say, make excuses for yourself and say, well, I didn't want to do this, I wasn't feeling this, or this thing happened or this circumstance happened. But you cannot negotiate your dreams and your goals. You cannot negotiate with your goals through circumstances or excuses. That will make you unhappy. it's up to you to take responsibility for your life. And you have to decide today that you're going to get in shape, that you're going to start that side hustle or that business, that you're going to take on a new hobby. Whatever it may be for you, you've got to decide and only you can decide to take that first step. And then, most importantly, be consistent on those steps day after day, week after week, year after year. But the next step that matters just as much is being held accountable for or the goals in front of you. That is important. The accountability is so key. And you need to create a habit of checking in with someone on a daily or weekly basis that can hold you accountable and call you out if you're falling short. This is why we have our Greatness Coaching Program that high performance leaders in our community are members of. They have joined, they have monthly accountability, they've got partners, they've got myself, they've got a coach, all these different things to help people stay accountable. An accountability partner could be a friend for you, could be a family member, could be a co-worker, could be a coach that you hire, could just be someone you pay as an accountability person to check on you daily. Whatever it is for you, accountability is key. And the effects of accountability are strongest when you and your partner have similar goals so you can grow together with them. It's huge when you guys have that common goal. goal. Just having one accountability partner can do wonders for you. Just one person to hold you accountable, to give you checks and balances. But you can also consider surrounding yourself with a team, a community of people who inspire you and hold you accountable. I hire lots of coaches. Personally, I try to find the experts in every area of my life, hire them to hold me accountable for what is important to me. only what is important to me, I have them do. If it's not important and if it's not part of your vision, it's not part of your overall life plan, then you don't have to do it. But for me, what's important, I hire people, I have accountability in those areas of my life. Fitness, relationships, spirituality, business, mental health, financial health. I mean, I hire people in every category. And I understand you may not be at a point right now where you can do that, where you can afford that. but find friends, find mentors, find people that can hold each other accountable. And if you want to improve your fitness, one of the best things you can do is surround yourself with fitness-minded people. So if you're hanging out with people that are lazy and on the couch and aren't working out ever, then start spending more quality time with people that are getting up at 6:00 a.m. and doing joint runs together. There's run groups in every city around the world. There's different things you can do. to support you. So think about the accountability in your life, what's important to improve right now, find those people to support you and move forward. Habit number 10, learn to cope with tragedy and let go of regret, anger and resentment. Holding on to our past trauma is one of the most painful things we can do for ourselves. I am speaking for myself here that I held on to trauma and resentment and anger and frustration for 25 years, if not more, in different parts of my life. And that is a recipe for suffering, reaction, stress, painful moments, all these different things. So, you know, the therapist who's been on who reminded me of this guy winch talks about, you know, the ruminating of our past wounds and holding on to these past wounds and how to heal the broken hearts. we've got that episode that you can dive in more and so many different therapists have come on and talked about this. But I try to really look for the positives and what I can learn from these events and feelings and channel those feelings into growth as a person and really how can I serve others who might be going through something similar in that situation. I remember hearing a story from Tony Robbins. He said, you know, when I was a kid, My mom used to beat me. She used to pour soap down my mouth because she thought I was lying. She used to do all these things that caused a lot of pain and trauma for me. But I loved my mother because she gave me the capacity, the expanded heart to want to help other people rid themselves from their suffering. So he used the painful moment not as resentment to hold on to, you know, being angry at his mom, but to say, you know, I love my mom for this. You know, she didn't know any better in these times. She was doing her best. She was also loving in other ways. But those moments, I'm not gonna hold onto them and suffer. I'm gonna use them to end suffering for those around me. And I think that's really powerful. So really think about how you can let go of the emotional traumas. This might take some work for a lot of people. For me, it took a long time to really learn how to do that. that's one of the reasons why I started School of Greatness, because I wanted to interview these experts to teach me. But it's created so much freedom and peace in my life and happiness in the process. And habit number 11 is to eliminate things that don't make you happy and focus on what does make you happy. So I asked Matthew McConaughey this, and when I interviewed him, I said, you know, what are five things that we should be eliminating in our life? And he mentioned this list of these five things. Number one, we should be eliminating bad people. eliminate people that don't promote your growth and that don't bring you joy. We often cling onto these toxic relationships or people because they validate us in the short term, but they're very harmful in the long term. So eliminate those people or at least distance yourself. Distance yourself and start spending more quality time with people that bring you joy. Number two to eliminate is bad places. Stop going to places that encourage unhealthy lifestyle behaviors. like bars or fast food restaurants, etc. Again, don't go to these places if you know you don't feel good when you're there or afterwards. And if a certain place continually makes you feel bad, do whatever you can to eliminate or distance yourself or go there less. Our environment can really impact our mood in a big way. It's hard to not notice that. So create those environments for yourself that are healthier. Number three, you got to eliminate the comparison to others. Stop comparing yourself to others and eliminate jealousy. Because what is it the quote comparison is the thief of joy. I think Einstein said that. When we're constantly comparing yourself to yourself of what you think you should be or whatever, it's like always in comparison mode is not going to do anything good for your happiness. Number four, overthinking your failures. Instead of dissecting all all your problems, start dissecting all your success, all the things you've done to overcome the challenges. And ask yourself, how can I replicate my successes rather than how can I stop my failures? And number five to eliminate is instant gratification. This is a big one. Fight the cravings for instant pleasure and results. And be okay with delayed gratification. Knowing that you're going to be doing the work consistently and your future self is going to be grateful for your current self and the consistent effort you're putting in. You're going to reap way bigger rewards in the future if you can delay that gratification. You have you've really created something pretty amazing for yourself. What is the skill that you have that you think is most important in your success?
Vision.
100% vision.
Explain that.
From a young age, I've been able to see things that I thought for myself that I wasn't able to explain. I was able to see how to accomplish my goals athletically. I was able to see how I needed to connect with a certain person. I was able to see how to build an online business when I didn't have the skills or the know-how I was able to somehow figure out, okay, this is where I need to go and I could figure out the path through the clarity somehow. And I'm really good at seeing other people's path as well. That's been something that I've developed the last 10 years. So if you told me, like, my goal is X and you weren't sure how to make it happen, you wouldn't say that because you know exactly what to do, but most people, they're like.
I'm not sure how to get there.
I would be able to just, I.
Don'T know what it is.
There's something that I've been able to develop where I can see exactly the steps I need to take to make it happen.
So when you're thinking through it, do you have a method or is it literally like it just appears to you? There's no method.
It's like a Picasso.
I don't know.
It's like, like painting something like, it just kind of all comes together, and I don't know where that comes from.
Do you use meditation for this? Like thinking about the person who wants to have the kind of success that you've had? And so is it just that you're born with it and move on to the next question or is there anything--.
I think it's a unique experiences, all the experiences that I've had that have allowed me to, from a very young age, I observed people I observed people constantly because I didn't have friends. So I would sit and watch and observe. And then when I was able to.
Have the courage to speak to people.
I would ask questions just like we do on the Daily Show and everything. And I would just notice people's energy. I would notice their energy and what they were saying, what they weren't saying, what was missing. And I think this is the pattern recognition over time. from observing people, asking questions, but also applying these things in my visualization practice for sports. Sports was the greatest teacher for me growing up because every day I got to be in the arena, I got to practice something that I wanted to accomplish. I got to improve on a skill set, whether it be in basketball and it was a dribbling skill that I wanted to learn or a shooting drill or rebounding, there was always a skill that I needed to improve improve upon. Football, like in sports, you never are, you've never mastered really anything. You can be great at something, but there's always another level in sports to be better. Even the best basketball players, they miss a lot of their shots. It's like you can always improve somewhere, some skill set. So for me, the application of seeing my own goals and seeing my own dreams and then taking daily actions to improve upon those and make those goals come to reality. It was the full circle moments that I created consistently. Here's the dream, 15 years later it happened. Seven years later it happened, five years, 20 years. It was like seeing it come to fruition was a big, gave me the confidence. Those results gave me the confidence. And then when I started coaching other people, I don't know, seven, eight years ago in kind of the business world and the online marketing.
