When you're stuck in negative self-talk, pause before you react. Speaker B explains how therapy teaches you to create distance between what happens and how you respond, so you don't believe every harsh thought. The mantra: postpone action until serenity emerges.
For someone watching and listening who maybe is really struggling, they just feel like things are just keep knocking them down. What advice would you give them for anyone watching or listening who might be in that space on how to start the process of truly loving and accepting yourself, even when you feel really low?
For me, part of why therapy is so important is because it has taught me to pause. And to not believe every single thought that I'm having, to not get caught up in the negative self-talk, to create a little bit of distance between the stimulus and the response. There's a saying that I love that pause stands for postpone action until serenity emerges.
