Chapters

Understanding emotions doesn't mean you know exactly the reason why, and that we each feel the same emotion for the same reasons. We tend to think other people feel emotions because of the way we feel those emotions. No, it's different. For example, with anger, the things that I see as an injustice you may not relate to, and I may not be able to relate to the things that you see as an injustice because of our childhoods, our upbringing, our culture, our religion, our gender, race, whatever it is. And so the goal of emotional intelligence is not to be right. The goal is to be curious. The goal is to hey, Louis, tell me more. It's hard for me to really be empathic because I don't get it. But I hear you and I believe you, and I want to support you.
