What does it mean to be a leader? It means being a truth seeker. It means standing in my truth. It means recommitting to my values every single day. It means reassessing my values. Hello, welcome everyone to Aligned and Wealthy. This is your host, Lindsey. I am super excited to bring you this week's episode. We have had a little bit of a break for the last 2 to 3 weeks. It has been such a fun month. So as we are closing out the month of May, we are sliding into summer. It has just been such a, such an eventful month. And that meant putting a few things on pause and just really getting super clear on what it was that we need to focus on for the month. So as some of you have been following along, excuse me, I'm getting over this cold, but as some of you have been following along, I just returned from Dallas, Texas. We were there for a trip with the company that I'm actually working with as their Chief Marketing Coach, and it was such a fun experience. We were there for 5 days. That was the longest that I had ever been without the kids. Daniel and I actually traveled together,. And it was such a fun experience. I spoke in front, spoke and taught, like, like 3 hours in total in front of about 200 people. And it was just such an incredible experience to partake in this in-person networking event, met amazing human beings, amazing business owners, I met my team in person. So that was really cool to actually meet my team and the people that I'm working with every single day in person. And miss my kids. I actually missed my kids a lot while I was there. And yeah, it took me like 3 or 4 days to feel like I was human again after we got home and, you know, just to feel functioning again. So yeah, finally back and at it. And I actually have a really cool episode for you all today. This episode is a recording, or it's actually the interview that I did about a month ago inside inside of the Luxe Leadership Summit. So some of you may remember whenever we were promoting the Luxe Leadership Summit, this is where about 18 industry leaders came together and we held this 3-day summit where we shared on what it meant to be a leader and on what it meant to, you know, own your voice, stand out in the online world, lead business and lead your professional development your way. And I think this episode is just really good. It's really key. It actually expands on some of the things that I spoke about in the last episode, if you caught that, the last solo episode, where I gave the personal update, but it's really an expansion on that even, and just sharing on what it is, what it means to own your voice in the online space, to stay true to your values. There's actually a super tangible and tactical exercise that I walk you through inside of this interview in marketing your way and in marketing your business and your services in a way that is true to you and your value. So, this one is super duper juicy. So, dive into this one. It is about 25 minutes long, I believe. So, definitely enough that you can listen to in a car ride or definitely get it in within a day or doing laundry or washing dishes or whatever it is that you are into that is keeping you busy today. So, super tactical and a few need-to-knows before we dive in. So, I mentioned it, I believe, in the last episode, and I've also been talking about it a little bit over on Instagram. But my mentor Kelly, who you're going to actually hear me talk to inside of this interview, um, she and I have known each other for almost 2 years now, and I have worked with her as my mentor. We have co-led things together, we have taught workshops together. So she's friend, mentor, confidante, um, all the things. And she and I are actually organizing we're putting together the space. And I'm so just like excited for this, because it's something that we all desperately need. This link is also in your show notes for the day. So you can grab that there. And yeah, I hope to see you there. So I want to go ahead and hop into today's episode. You can hear actually a conversation between me and Kelly, between Kelly and I on what it means to lead in life and business and to lead in your marketing in a way that is aligned with your values And yeah, just bring you, hopefully bring you the clarity and bring you even the confirmation that you need to know that you're doing things right or to give you the clarity that you need to get back in your lane and to keep slaying business, okay? So without further ado, let's jump into today's episode. I'm Lindsey. I help business owners, fellow coaches, consultants, healers, leaders market in a way that feels so fricking good to you So that selling, selling your offers, selling out your coaching spots, selling your, even if you're not a coach, like whatever business that you have, you sell those things with such an ease that it becomes second nature for you, right? Like I like to use the term making sales second nature. Like almost it's like every single day, your daily activities, you're taking a shower in the morning, you're selling, right? Because you're getting your body ready and you're getting your vessel ready, you're getting the energy to come in and show up and show up for your people and to market your services and market your way, market, market in a way that feels good to you, right? So really making sales second nature. I recently took on a position with a highly successful cybersecurity company. So I feel like I am in such a learning phase right now. Just positioning my work for a much more serious toned, like niche, like these guys are so smart and so awesome. So it's been really interesting to see this work even span across to an industry that has nothing to do with what we do as life coaches and relationship coaches. And, you know, it's like such a technical field. But that just goes to show you that the work that we're doing in our marketing and every single time that we make a decision from our values and from what's important to us, it's that like it's, it's what Kelly was talking about earlier about standing in your truth. Like it's that much more true. Like these guys are doing similar work inside of this company. Like they're like, oh, well, like what marketing does work for me. I'm like, how can I stand confidently? Like, the word confidence comes up so much, even with these guys that we're working with. So it's like, if they can do it, like, you in this room can do it, you know, like, we can do it in here. And so much of what we do in sales and marketing is standing confidently. It's getting into this, to the space of like, I know that what I have is of value. And I just have to sell it, I have to market it, I have to talk about it, I have to believe in it, right? Even whenever no one is showing up, you know, even whenever you're not getting the immediate gratification, you just have to keep going, right? So that was a long-winded introduction, but that is a sneak peek into what we're going to dive into.
I love that. And, and I want to step in because, you know, we've had a ton of conversations that it's not selling, it's serving. So if you really just take out the word selling and insert the word service, it changes how it feels in your body. And one of my favorite things to say since, since Lindsay is getting ready to talk all things marketing, McDonald's has been selling hamburgers every single day since 1955. Yeah, no reason if we are our own boss that we are not selling ourselves on the daily because we didn't go in business. We are our own best advertisement. And if no one else— we're not McDonald's. So if no one else is out shouting us out how yummy we are, Guess who has to do it? We do. We have to be our own best marketers. That is leadership. And that's stepping up unapologetically, untamed, and confidently. So, all right, Lindsay, what does it mean to you to be a leader? That's my question. I definitely want to get to that. I've been asking all the women and then we'll have back and forth conversation.
Oh my gosh, that's such a good question. What does it mean to be a leader? It means being a truth It means standing in my truth. It means recommitting to my values every single day. It means reassessing my values if I need to, right? It means showing up not just for myself, but for my family, for the people here who count on me. It means showing up for all of you in this room, right? Even like we were saying, like even whenever the gratification isn't there or whenever the immediate results aren't there, right? It is about showing up anyways and speaking that truth. Over and over and over again. And it is like knowing that the things that challenge you the most and the things that are like right in your face, it is probably because it is testing some of your most core values, right? So, it is like the things that makes us, it is hard to be a leader sometimes and the things whenever it feels really hard and we feel all this resistance, well, it is probably because you are working through something that is like really important to you, right? You know, whether it is like communication or it is honesty or transparency, right? You are going to find yourself in a lot of the those sticky situations where like, oh, this is really hard to navigate. I don't know how to do that. But being a leader, standing in your leadership, is like coming back to that, right? It's like coming back, coming back home to mama, coming back to the values that you, that you choose day in and day out to commit to. So I would say it's really being intentional, you know, because it's so easy to take the easy road. It's so easy to take the easy, easy way out and say, well, I'll just kick that can down the road. I'm not going to address that thing that like really got under my skin, right? Or I'm not going to address this thing that's going on right now and in your industry or whatever, but it rattles you because you're emotionally tied to it. It's a value for you. It's important to you, right? So your work as a leader, right, and it's gonna feel so messy and so scary, but your work is to stand in your truth in those moments, right? And do the thing that's going to align you back with that value. And it's hard. It's hard stuff.
It is. But entrepreneurship, I feel like Um, until you step into it, you don't really realize all of your weak sauce moments until you decide to be an entrepreneur. And then when nothing's ever wrong, and then you become an entrepreneur and you're like, oh my gosh, why do I have all these mind fucks? What's going on right now? All the things are showing up. So I love that. So Lindsay, I know you've worked really hard and it's part of your core passion to show up untamed, unapologetic, to push the edge and to kind of ruffle feathers. Let's like, honestly, and in this space, that's like part of your genius. So can you riff on some of the ways in which you are doing the work that allows you to lead from that place?
Oh my gosh. Yeah. Well, I think it's like letting go. This is so like, okay. Like letting go of the need to need a permission slip. Like I get so sick of saying like, let this be your permission slip. Like, no, like we don't need permission slips anymore. Like you get to do what works for you, right? So a lot of— and I know that it has well, like, has good intentions behind it. It is well-intentioned to say, allow this to be your permission slip to have Community, right? Like, I know that that's what brought a lot of the faces and a lot of the beautiful women in here today. It's like, this is your permission slip to do business with the Community. But like, we don't need those permission slips. Not from us, not from, not from the world, not from the coaching industry, not from anyone else out there. Like, I think it's taken down these constraints that have told us you need someone else to approve it for you. You need your mentor's approval, approval. You need your coach's permission. You need this validation that you're on the right track or that it's okay to do it that way. And you don't. So, so if I were to give you a permission slip, right, it is, it is for you to not need one. You know, it's like, you don't need that. You don't need that. And it's like typically the ideas that seem so crazy and that seems so out of the box and you're like, who in the hell will sign up for this? Or like, what is this even about? Or like, Oh my God, here I go changing my niche again or like, you know, or stepping into this new role at work, right? Because several of us are still in corporate jobs, right? Or maybe making a huge decision in your family, right? It is like you don't need that validation from anyone. It is good to talk about it. It is good to communicate it, sure. But like letting go of the need to ask for permission. And I know that as women like that, that can be hard, you know, especially if you are married and you have kids and you are kind of, you know, tamed on the domestic side a little bit, right? Like, it can be hard to release that mindset.
I'm sure you relate, you know, mindset. You know, I'm going to bring this to fruitation because what you just said, some of the women might not know your story, but a big part of your story was coming home to yourself. And everything you're saying came— you almost gave yourself your own permission slip by doing the inner work, healing, and coming home to yourself. So from a sales standpoint and marketing, one of my favorite things things to say is, or my, what I said, think, which I know like you think this too, is I, I used to need you when I didn't like me, but now I like me and I don't need you. So, so much of marketing is, is almost self-healing and the self-love game.
Yeah, absolutely. And then that goes on all fronts, right? Like regardless of what type of business you're in or whatever you're in, even if you're marketing yourself, your own, your own personal brand, right? It is you coming home to yourself day in, day out, like looking in the mirror and reminding yourself who you are. Like, you know, I see some of you are home with your baby right now. Like that doesn't make you any less of anything, right? Like you look in the mirror and you say like, I remember who I am. Like I am that girl. Like I am that woman, right? And it is like you get to come home to yourself over and over and over again. Stand in who you are, like regardless if you are driving the minivan, like Kelly was talking about earlier, you are you're in the carpool line or whatever, like you get to be you. And this is really cool that we're coming back to this because we talked about this. Oh my goodness. Like on one of our last Lux calls, Kelly, about the identity thing. Oh, I think that you weren't there for that call. It was the call that I led that day. We got into identity, right? And it was like how we sometimes— maybe you were there. But anyways, it's like how we sometimes divide our identities based on where we are and who we're around. Right? So I felt this super hardcore because by trade, quote unquote, I'm a first grade teacher, I'm a certified educator, I've got my degree up here, you know, and it's like I would find myself in this divide of like, oh, at school I'm a buttoned up school teacher. And then in the afternoon, I'm a coach and I'm on Instagram and I'm like doing all this cool stuff, you know, and it was like, it felt like this like line in the sand that separated the two. So I think a big part of coming home to yourself is saying, well, guess what? With my kids, I am me, right? With my husband, I am me. In business, I am me. At my corporate job, I am me. And like, this is me and my truth over and over and over again. And so it's like they're going to bleed into each other and that's the way that it should be. You know, like those parts of you will bleed and they will integrate. But I think that like the real test, like the real homework, is to be unafraid of what people will think about you. It's like being unafraid of, am I marketing myself too loudly? Am I being too bold? Right? Am I boring people? Right? Am I giving them too much information? Like, no. Like, if that's you, that's you. Own it. Own it. Claim it. Walk with it. Like, do it, you know? So that's coming home to yourself. And that is choosing to tie your identity on all fronts, right? To tie it together and allow it to be, you know, just in unity in all fronts.
Yeah, yeah. So like, ladies, as we, as we're going, is this heading home for you? Like, marketing is really just coming home to yourself and, and knowing how you're meant to show up in the world and what you desire to feel. I'm, I'm always talking and sharing that, like, I encourage women to chase emotions, not money. So the money will take and if you chase emotions and then you work your business and your marketing around the ways you want to feel, which for me is peace, joy, love, and happiness. So I try to make every business decision I make mirror one of those emotions or have the outcome that I'm going to feel a certain way if I take this step. But that's a really hard place to get to. That's a hard place to get to. So can you remember can you take yourself back? So for the woman who's not there right now, even the smallest step is going to seem like a mountain. So if you can take yourself back, even if it has to go 2 years, you know what I mean? What is, what is a tangible action step that women could begin showing up in their truth through marketing?
If it's scary, you know, it's scary at first. It's so scary. You have to find your values. And I know that that word is kind of overrated. Like we hear the word, oh, it's value, like kind of like a corporate word, sort of like, what are our values? But you really have to like come back to that. I recently did this for myself in the last few months, and because I found myself at this super pivotal, pivotal, the super pivotal moment in my own professional development. And then, and then if I think back, Kelly, it's like I look back to a few years ago, I did this as well. So it's like, come back home to what your values are. Like, literally, like Google, like go to Google and type in list of values and like, it's so cheesy, you guys, but it's going to remember, it's going to probably remember, like remind you of, like, do you remember in the elementary school cafeterias and on the wall it would have like these poster boards about perseverance and teamwork and like all of these like cheesy character traits, right? Like that's kind of how it feels whenever you're doing it. You're just looking at all these like really cheesy personal development words. But the thing here is to go through, and this is actually, I took some of this from Brené Brown's work that she does and she super big into leadership and leading with integrity. And I love the things that she teaches on, but I like to take this work and tie it into your marketing, right? So as an example, my core values over the last few months when I reassessed came back to growth and courage, right? So find your list, get your list, go to Google, find any list of values that you want, go through, circle your top 10, circle your top 10, right? You're gonna wanna, you're going to wanna circle all of them. You're gonna say, oh, this is important and this and this and this. And that's okay. You're gonna have like 10 to 15 of them, right? Then go back through the list and say, OK, on those days that are really, really hard and on those days where I am like going to pull my hair out or I am just bone tired, what is still important to me? What is still true to me? What am I going to stand by, right? Go through, circle your top 2, right? So for me, this past, you know, a few months, like 2 months ago, mine were courage, and growth, right? So whenever it comes back to marketing, whenever it comes to you putting your offers out, whenever it comes to you pivoting maybe your messaging, right? Or it comes to reassessing some of those things or figuring out what is the next step for me in business. Maybe you're thinking of hiring a team member. Maybe you're thinking about, you know, just burning it all to the ground, right? And then you're just like, I just wanna put it all up in flames. I'm done, right? You're gonna have like this, these concrete values to come back to and say, okay, Well, does this decision, like, does it support my values? Can I really say in retrospect that I am living, breathing, standing by these values, right? So it's like, and I just kind of keep coming back to this new journey that I'm on and helping these cybersecurity guys with their marketing, right? It's like, that was such a huge decision. And I, because I have no idea about this stuff, right? So maybe you're coming into it into an industry and you're like, I just feel I feel like everyone else has it figured out. That is how I felt, right? But you can look at that list. You can look at your top 2 values, right? And if your top 2 values are collaboration or it is, you know, let me think of like perseverance, right? Going back to the posters. But you are going to be able to look at those values and say, well, how can I stand by those values today? Right? Like, how can I live and breathe this? That's the test of leadership. Like, that's the test of integrity is like, at the end of the day, whenever you're frustrated or you're working with a team that you have or you're trying to collaborate, collaborate with people, pulling stuff together, and you're like frustrated and, you know, you got invoices to send and everything else. And it's like, oh, well, man, it's going to be a really tough conversation to have with someone. But guess what? My core value is courage. So how am I going to stand by courage today? Like, that is hard. Like, that is like hard stuff because it would be so much easier to just, you know, for example, just do the work, tidy it up. All right. I'm just going to do it myself. But that's not going to take any courage. The courage is from you having the tough conversation, right? The courage is from you. I know a lot of you all are going through like niche changes or you're really leaning into deepening your messaging, right? So it is like that takes courage. You know, it would be so much easier for you to continue doing what works. But like living and marketing through your values is like doing the really, really hard stuff because it is you and your truth, right? That is not just like a sexy saying like, oh, I am like standing in my power today. I am standing in my truth. No, like we are standing beside the values that we choose, right? Like we choose those values. We chose them. Now we have to choose them day in and day out. And it's not fun and it's not sexy all the time.
That's the magic of it. That's another theme. Like everyone's been saying, it's one thing just to do it. Like whether we were leaning in, I mean, every single speaker this morning, basically consistency should be king. Consistency is king. Well, mindset's king. Consistency is queen. Yeah. Like making a choice. I love that you said research values. Somebody Google that that has their phone randomly. I'm just curious what the values are going to show. And then just choosing two, because sometimes, like, I want to make sure we're not in all the masculine energy that it's all or nothing, because sometimes we don't start if we're high achievers or perfectionists. We'd rather not do it than do it 100%. So I love that you said you gave a baby step. Lean in, pick 2 values. Oh my gosh, she shared the link. So does that— can you read what does it say some of them are offhand? Just out of curiosity. Yeah.
Yeah. So this is the actual list of values that I used to find my from— that I used to find mine from. I mean, there's accountability, achievement, adaptability, adventure, legacy, leisure, love, loyalty, right? Like you want to circle all of them. You're like, all of those are important. Yeah. You know, so it's tough. Openness, optimism, patriotism, peace, perseverance, power, pride, recognition, reliability. Right. So go through, circle your top 10. So we can do that, right? And then go back through and find this top 2.
That's good. I'm actually going to do that because I want to see, like, you know, where I'm at in relation to where I think I am. You know what I mean? Like, I know what my are, but then because I chase emotions, but I want to make sure now my emotions are tied to my values because that's like next level.
Yeah. And you know what, Kelly? It's like it's going to be really tough because especially having kids and a husband and a family, like you want to choose family. Like family is a value that's on there, right? Or love, right? Or connection. But what I found was that like for me, growth is kind of like encompassing a lot of those things. It's like growth is a core value for me because that's going to encompass you know, accountability, dignity, like it's going to encompass a lot of those things. So like you may find the thing that you really resonate with and you'll say, okay, well that actually really makes sense because it has emotional resilience in there, or it has those other things like within it. It's almost like, like, like the bucket for it. It's like an energy bucket for it almost, you know, it's going to be encompassing those other values that you really, really want to circle as well.

And I mean, I think we're all on, all on IG. So connect with me on IG. You can go to lindseybodeo.com, but like my website is still, you know, it's always coming together, I think. Um, so hanging out on Instagram is the easiest way. Um, and yeah, I would love to connect with you all and support you in your growth and in your leadership journey. I'm excited to do it together.
I'm going to ask you a really— I love just making people feel uncomfortable because I think you grow.
It takes a lot to make me uncomfortable, but I'm here for it.
Growth, grow, grow, grow. No, just ask you a question. You have no idea what's coming. So here's, here's a question I want you to close us off and then Kate is on deck. Welcome Kate. We're excited to speak to you. Um, What advice would you give to clients who are investing in coaches and programs to maximize, to maximize their results within that container?
Allow yourself to be supported. Like, I see it so often, so, so, so often with clients that start with me and like, you almost have to like whip them into shape and like, ask questions, like reach out to me. It's like you have to like show up for what you pay for, you know? And it sounds, it sounds so simple, but so like so many times we find ourselves feeling like a bother or we are afraid that, well, that is a dumb question, or I don't want to bother my Coach, or I don't want to reach out and ask that, or I don't want to be the girl in the mastermind that keeps asking the questions, or I don't want to go to the Facebook group or this course and, you know, leave my win there. But I like, allow yourself to be supported. Allow yourself, like, allow yourself to receive the support. You paid for it. You have already done the hardest part, which is like investing into yourself in that way. Right? So, it is now, it is like allow yourself to be supported and even like you can even take this a step further. Allow yourself to be supported by your team. Allow yourself to be supported by your family. Allow yourself to be supported by the women in this group, right? Like allow yourself to be supported in whatever way that looks like.
Mm-hmm. Mic drop. I can't drop my mic because it is a snowball and then my Then I don't need any more tech issues today, but here's my mic. Lord knows I've had enough tech issues.
