In this brief presentation, the speaker debunks the common misconception that Alzheimer’s disease follows a single, uniform trajectory for all patients. They emphasize the adage, “you've met one person with dementia, you've met one person with dementia,” highlighting that disease progression differs markedly between individuals. The variability is attributed to the existence of roughly 100 distinct brain disorders that can produce Alzheimer‑like symptoms, and many patients experience mixed dementia—simultaneous involvement of multiple brain pathologies. Consequently, the rate and pattern of cognitive decline can range from a slow, years‑long deterioration to a rapid, aggressive decline.
