In this opening segment of her YouTube reading, Lois Letchford introduces Anne Fine's children's book The Killer Cat's Birthday Bash, noting it is the fourth in the series and not her favorite. She humorously comments on the chaotic birthday party she describes, calling it a mess, disaster, and a riot, and places the blame on Ellie, whose boredom led her to rummage through a cupboard and discover an old photograph album that revealed the date of the narrator’s birthday, setting the events in motion.

Hello, I am Lois Letchford, and I am reading Anne Fine's book, The Killer Cat's Birthday Bash. It's the 4th in her series of The Killer Cat. Not my favourite. Okay, okay, so spank my furry little bum. I held a party. And go ahead, stuff me with sorry pills. It all ended up a bit of a mess. Well, more than a mess. A disaster. Well, more than a disaster. A real riot. But it was not my fault. If Ellie hadn't got so bored she rooted through her cupboard and found that old photograph album, I would never have known the date of my birthday. None of it would have happened. So you blame Ellie. Don't blame me.
