Welcome, I'm Lois Letchford, author of the book Reversed: A Memoir and literacy problem solver, and this week my student Matthew is sharing his favourite poems with us. Over to you, Matthew.
I'm Matthew and I'm going to read some of my favourite poems. One of them is A Certain Lady Kangaroo. A certain lady kangaroo was once an awful grouch. She pestered everybody she knew and fussed about her pouch. My pouch, she sighed. My pouch, she cried. My pouch, she used to pout. But the things I tried to keep inside and prevent them falling out— my makeup kit, my grooming needs, My toothbrush and my nail brush, my credit cards and my worry beads, my tissues and my tail brush. That certain lady kangaroo tried sealing it with snaps, with tape, with twines, with globs of glue, with staples, rivets, and string. With paper clips and wire strands, with putty pins and paste, with rivets, rope, and rubber bands, but all were just a waste. Today that certain lady kangaroo was charming, calm, and tripper, for she went to a tailor who equipped her with a zipper.
