Donald Miller's StoryBrand principle: position your business as the guide, not the hero. Stop using "we/our" language and shift to "you"-focused messaging. Think Obi-Wan Kenobi or Mr. Miyagi, not the main character.
Chapters
Building a StoryBrand by Donald Miller is a really unique marketing book that goes deeper than just how you advertise, but to the root of how you build your business. If there is one key takeaway from the whole book, it would be that people are looking for a guide, not a hero. Too often, businesses position themselves as the heroes who conquered the problems that customers face. Their language is filled with we or us or our instead of you. What I mean by that is they talk themselves up about how good of a company they are instead of talking to the customer and showing them how they can get what they want. Every person is the hero of their own story, so you cannot try to take that role. Instead, you need to be the hero's guide, the Obi-Wan for Luke Skywalker, the Mr. Miyagi for Daniel the Karate Kid. You are the one who shows and leads your customer on the path to success.
