Today is my dad's birthday, so I wanted to share one of my favorite things about him. He always looks back on history. Whenever he teaches me something, he usually has a story from the past to illustrate it. Not only are my dad's stories super cool, but his ability to reflect on the past, draw lessons from it, and recognize the patterns is a skill that people nowadays don't have. History is doomed to repeat itself if you don't learn from it, so you have to learn to spot the patterns. One of my dad's sayings is that he has bled, been bruised, and broken so I don't have to be. He's already gone through a ton of challenges, and from those challenges, he has collected stories and lessons to teach me so that I don't have to go through the same trials, or so that I'll be more ready when they come. And for that, I am super grateful to my dad. Thank you for being the best dad ever. Happy birthday.
