A speaker reflects on The Gap and the Gain, arguing that reframing life's low points as achievements shifts your focus from what's missing to what you've gained. When you believe everything happens for you, not to you, gratitude becomes automatic and valleys stop blocking your progress.

I was on the Teenage Tycoon book club call today, and the book we were reading was The Gap and the Gain. I've talked a little bit about this book before, and now having read all of it, I want to share a bit about what we discussed during the book club. One of the big points at the end of the book is reframing the past and turning your valleys, or low points in life, into gains. Life is simple. Everything happens for you, not to you. Everything happens exactly at the right moment, neither too soon nor too late. You don't have to like it, it's just easier if you do. Byron Katie. And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28. I always try to keep that quote and that verse in the front of my mind, but sometimes when something feels really bad, it can be hard to remember those truths. So you have to train yourself to automatically see the gain in what the outside world would perceive as a completely negative situation. If your gratitude is automatic, then the valleys will not stop you.
