Mark Evans DM explains why people worth $30 million and up stay anxious: that worry acts as a thermostat that keeps them planning and protecting wealth for their kids. He calls it a useful gift, not something to fix. The real question is how to balance relentless ambition with actually being happy.
people with net worths of $30 million and more, right, still feel like they're going to lose their money, and they're like anxious almost about losing everything, right, because they're so focused on it. How do you think, you know, mentally somebody can kind of calm that down, or should they not calm it down?
Yeah, I don't think they should calm it down. I think it's the— I think it's the temperature that allows— I think it's the thermostat that allows them to get to that point. Because again, the guy, you know, I was hanging out with the guy, um, he's worth a billion dollars plus. He's afraid of his kids losing it, his kids' kids losing it. So he's still afraid of losing it. Might not be through him, but through, through his process if he doesn't set up the proper plan, set up the proper pieces. And he's spending a lot of energy on it. But 100%, man, I, I think, again, I think it's a gift. Yeah. You know, I, I see people around and they're like, got life figured out, but they can't pay their bills, they can't take a vacation, they can't do these things. But they think they have it figured out. And I'm like, why are you so relaxed? Why are you so like, okay with everything? They just accept it. Like, oh, this is the life I've been dealt. You know, that's kind of how they deal with it.
Contentedness of not being that ambitious. Right. And then, and then we are so ambitious that we're never, ever content. And so it's like, how do you find that? How do you find that happy medium?
