First up, Apple is doubling down on its role in the future of travel In a major update at its Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple unveiled a suite of new tools designed to make the travel experience smoother, smarter and more secure. Chief among them is the introduction of a digital US Passport feature in the iPhone wallet, set to roll out this fall. While not a full replacement for a physical passport, it can be used at TSA checkpoints and for age or ID verification. Apple also revealed live translation tools across phone, FaceTime and messages supporting real time multilingual communication. Even if one party isn't using an Apple device, think of it as the tech equivalent of carrying a translator in your pocket. Boarding passes will also get an upgrade offering real time flight updates, tighter integration with the Find My app for lost bags, and easier airport navigation via maps. Combined, these features hint at a future where your phone is not just your travel guide, it's your passport, translator, concierge and flight tracker all in one. And while Apple powers up the traveler experience, investors are lining up behind the tech driving this evolution. According to Focusrite's latest research, travel tech funding is slightly down in 2025, but key firms like Thayer, Antler and F Prime remain bullish, particularly on startups tackling unsexy problems with real operational value. AI continues to be a hot area, with investor sentiment shifting from the hype cycle to sustainable ROI driven tools. Investors are now more focused on startups and that use AI to solve specific traveler pain points like dynamic discovery, personalization or real time itinerary adjustments. With companies like Hostaway and Travel Perk raising nine figure rounds and players like Agoda leveraging Google's AI to build visual travel planners, it's clear that the next wave of travel innovation won't be driven by gimmicks. It'll be about smarter infrastructure, seamless planning and platforms that meet travelers where they already are. The message is clear.
