First up, Airbnb's summer 2025 release. Alongside a flashy relaunch of experiences, the company has now added personal chefs, spa treatments and even in home trainers to its platform under a new services vertical. But while the features are glitzy, one major thing is missing. Any mention of sustainability? Despite pledging to reach net zero emissions by 2030, Airbnb's new announcements sidestep how these added services, many of which involve travel, food and waste, fit into their climate goals. A spokesperson confirmed that emissions from experiences and guest stays aren't currently counted in Airbnb's sustainability reporting. That means everything from food delivery to transport to massage tables falls outside their net zero promise. While a few eco conscious experiences were highlighted, the rollout lacks the accountability that today's climate conscious travelers expect. Now let's switch gears to AI, Specifically how it's about to reshape hotel and rental pricing as we know it. In 2025, AI platforms like ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity are moving closer to live ARI availability, rates and inventory. That means we're not far from a world where AI powered search can show travelers up to the minute prices and let them book directly without ever leaving the AI interface. This is a game changer, but it's one hotels and many short term rental operators aren't prepared for. While OTAs already have these real time capabilities, most independent hosts and hotel brands don't. And if they don't act fast, they risk being locked out of the next big distribution channel. So what should you do now? Make sure your listings are indexed on meta search platforms like Google Hotels and TripAdvisor. Start preparing your direct booking engine or PMS for live API integration. Monitor developments in AI distribution closely and build a strategy for tracking where your bookings are coming from.
