First up Travel Perks Big Expansion Travel Perk, the Barcelona based corporate travel platform, is making waves with a massive $200 million investment. The company, which allows businesses to book and manage trips, is taking a bold step by integrating expense management directly into its platform. Historically, Travel Perk users had to rely on third party apps for expense tracking, but now, thanks to its recent acquisition of Yokoi, the company is set to offer a seamless all in one travel and expense management solution. Jean Christophe Tony Bukalo, TravelPerk's president, believes this move will be a game changer, giving businesses the flexibility to handle different currencies, regulations and payment systems in one place. Beyond technology, TravelPerk is doubling down. In the US last year it acquired Chicago based Amtrak, gaining 1,000 new corporate clients. With the US now its biggest market, TravelPerk is aggressively scaling up operations to compete with giants like SAP Concur and American Express gbt. On top of that, AI is playing a key role in Travel Perks strategy. The company has been training employees, not just engineers, but sales and customer service teams to integrate AI into automation, customers, customer support and even trip planning. What's Next Travel Perk is focusing on build, partner or buy, meaning more acquisitions could be on the horizon as business travel rebounds post pandemic. This could position them as a dominant force in the market. Up Next Sonder's High Stakes Marriott Deal let's talk about Sonder, the short term rental company that's been making headlines for both growth and financial struggles. Sonder recently finalized a 20 year licensing deal with Marriott, allowing its rental properties to be booked through Marriott's channels. As part of the agreement, Marriott will pay Sander $15 million with half already delivered and the remaining balance due by March 31. The deal offers big opportunities for both companies. For Sonder, it's a chance to tap into Marriott's massive customer base, bringing more bookings to its properties while solving some of its ongoing financial woes. For Marriott. The partnership expands its footprint in the alternative accommodations sector, competing directly with Airbnb and vrbo. But it's not all smooth sailing. Sonder has been cutting back on its portfolio, exiting 70 buildings and 2,800 units last year, with more reductions on the way. Despite reporting higher occupancy rates and revenue per available room, the company is still struggling with cash flow issues with Sanders Financial future uncertain this deal with Marriott could be a lifeline or just a short term fix. The agreement allows both parties to walk away after five years, which means Marriott is keeping its options open. That's all for today's episode of STR Daily.
