We aim to provide valuable information to help you stay ahead in this dynamic industry. Vacation rental managers in the US are finding new ways to increase direct bookings as platforms like Airbnb, Vrbo and booking.com dominate the market. According to a recent report by Skift Research, 64% of travelers still book vacation rentals through online travel agencies, OTAs, while only 23% book directly with property managers. However, there's a growing trend toward direct bookings, particularly in other sectors like hotels and flights, where travelers are increasingly seeking benefits such as lower prices, better cancellation policies and direct communication with hosts. The push for direct bookings comes with several strategies that property managers can adopt. Upgrading websites for ease of use, offering competitive pricing and emphasizing flexibility are key steps. Leveraging tools like retargeting ads and promoting exclusive offers through social media also helps vacation rental managers compete with OTAs, while platforms like Airbnb and VRBO continue to offer convenience and trusted features. Savvy managers who capitalize on this trend can build stronger relationships with guests and enjoy higher profits. In a strategic move, Expedia Group has expanded its Travel Shops feature, introducing over 100 shoppable storefronts in collaboration with media brands, influencers and tourism boards. Launched earlier this year, this feature allows creators to share travel recommendations and and earn commissions through bookings. Travelers are now able to seamlessly move from inspiration on social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok to making actual bookings through these storefronts. With brands like Travel plus Leisure and Conde Nast Traveler on Board and influencers like actor Jaime Kamil, Expedia's approach is changing the way travelers plan and and book trips. The company plans to expand this offering to even more users next year, tapping into the growing social media driven travel market. That's all for today's episode of STR Daily, powered by Boostly.
