22 Jul 2021 · 5 min
This is a podcast episode (hosted by Mark Simpson) featuring Jay Massey explaining the CASHFLOW board game by Robert and Kim Kiyosaki. Jay frames the game as a long-standing simulation tool that lowers fear and anxiety around financial decisions by letting players practice high-value conversations and scenarios (including with children), thereby normalizing wealth-building mindsets and accelerating learning.

Oh, I welcome back everybody. I've got some special, special episodes coming up for you. Recently we had a masterclass from Jay Massey, AKA the Cash Flow Diary. If you've never heard of Jay Massey, you're going to by the end of this podcast. He came in and did a very special session for the Boostly Academy members and he wowed everybody. What I want to do is I wanted to take that hour and a half interview, break it down to short little daily segments that you can consume and put into practice for your own business. Some of the videos are going to be very visual, so if you're listening on the audio version, please do jump over to the YouTube channel, type in Boostly J Massey and you'll be able to see the video version. But most important, what I want for you to do is to see the feedback, the c what he was given to the host and then see how you can put it into your own business. If you want to go find out more about Jay, it's at Cashflow Diary. I just want to say a big thank you to Jay for doing this. He's a very busy man. His, his, his approach, his method, his why is so powerful. And it was super honest, as he always is. He's, he's very, very popular on the Clubhouse. I appear in a room with him every Thursday at 6:00pm UK time. And yeah, he's always helping and giving and I just sit back and I am at awe of how clever and the advice he's able to give. It helps me improve as well, which is. I never thought I'd get that from Clubhouse, but Jay gives up. So again, thank you from me to Jay, to the Boostly Academy members and thank you to you for tuning in today. I hope you enjoy it. Please, as always, send your feedback markooster.co.uk and without further ado, let's get on with today's episode. So for anybody who doesn't know, can you just please explain to me the Cash Flow board game, who is it by and why that game?
I was like, oh, well, sorry. They're always within arm's reach. So this board game is the board game that I'm referring to. It's made by Robert and Kim Kiyosaki. It's been around for 30 years. 20 years. 30. I don't know, 25 years or so. And if you've read Rich Dad, Poor dad, same guy. Okay. And that board game is the simulation before the real thing. So. Right. One of the reasons we are often because humans, we're scared we have fear during the purchase process, and then we have to deal with greed during the selling process. But that's two different things. But the way you can lower that fear is to simulate, before we put one of our young people into a very expensive piece of machinery known as a fighter jet for the military, they go into a simulator, period. Because to practice when it really counts matters. And that's what they do. They put many hours in that thing. And the casual game is. That is the same way. It's a simulation of the real thing that gives you and I access to an understanding of, oh, so this is how it works. By not simulating, you start skipping steps, and that's where the anxiety comes from. Because you're like, okay, what's going to happen? But when you can play that board game, you can lower someone's anxiety, your own included. You can get used to saying. Saying things like $100,000 a month or €100,000amonth or pounds. Depends on where you are. Right, I got it. I got it. Anyway, so my point is, you can get used to those things because the first time you say something like that, it may sound fake or foreign, or you're like, yeah, but that's not me. And it takes time to resolve that cognitive dissonance. And the game can do that for you to the point to where it becomes natural for you to say, yeah, I woke up this morning and already had $10,000, and I'm gonna go to work now, right? And it takes a while. It can take a while for that to happen, but normalizing it is what's key. And playing it with your kids, even better. Because the sooner they get used to seeing mom and dad have those types of conversations, it normalizes it for them so that they start thinking, well, how can I make $100,000 this year? And they're still in. They haven't gone in. They haven't even gone. But they're thinking all about that process ahead of time. Because here's the truth of the matter. We've all gone through transformation somehow, and this game is at the center of it. And you can intentionally create that transformation for other people while educating them, while having fun, AKA you become the educator of your marketplace and therefore dominate it.
