Home swapping has thrived in New York city since Local Law 18 went into effect imposing tight restrictions on short term rentals. Home Exchange, a leader in this space, reported a 53.6% jump in the number of exchanges finalized in the city. CEO Emmanuel Arno explained that home exchanging doesn't displace local residents and isn't about profiteering, which helps differentiate it from regulated short term rentals. Since the law's introduction, Home Exchange has seen its membership grow by 32% in New York City compared to just 6% in the US overall. Many residents are turning to this alternative as it remains unregulated and doesn't require properties to sit vacant, with 92% of their listings being primary residences. Meanwhile, over in the uk, Host and Stay, a vacation rental management business, has received a 10.5 million pounds investment from growth Partner. This funding will support its ambitious buy and build strategy. Beginning with the acquisition of Brighton based Air Host 4U and Norfolk Holiday Properties. Founded in 2018, Host & Stay has grown from a single property into one of the largest short term rental management agencies in the uk. Founder Dale Smith expressed his excitement about this next phase with plans to become one of the world's top operators in the space. Growth Partners backing is set to give Host and Stay the momentum to disrupt the booming 2.5 billion pounds UK staycation market, establishing new benchmarks in the short term rental sector.
