First up, the Philippines is betting big on long stay tourism and digital nomads are in its sights. Tourism Secretary Cristina Garcia Frasco recently revealed plans for a new digital nomad visa that allows travelers to stay for a year with hopes to extend this even further. With over 90 destinations already connected through improved WI fi and new direct flight connections planned from Paris, Canada and potentially India, the country is doubling down on accessibility and infrastructure. The shift comes after a sharp drop in Chinese arrivals pushed the Philippines to diversify its source markets. Now it's welcoming expats from the Gulf, tourists from Australia and South Korea and rolling out halal friendly tourism to attract Middle Eastern visitors. With tourism receipts already surpassing $13 billion in 2024, 26% above pre Covid levels, Frasco says the goal is attract high value long term guests who engage with local experiences and contribute to sustainable growth. Meanwhile, the hospitality tech space is bracing for disruption. Real time availability rates and inventory, collectively known as ari, are poised to become the next game changer in AI powered hotel distribution. While current AI search engines like ChatGPT or Gemini simulate pricing, they don't yet offer final bookable rates. That's where Model Context Protocol comes in, a new framework designed to connect large language models directly with hotel systems, allowing for real time pricing and even end to end bookings within AI interfaces for hotels, the message is prepare now or risk falling behind. From listing on metasearch platforms like Google Hotels and TripAdvisor to investing in live price feeds and tracking infrastructure, early adopters could claim massive market share before the dust settles. As AI reshapes the way travelers search, plan and book hospitality brands that are agile and tech forward will have a serious edge.
