We aim to provide valuable information to help you stay ahead in this dynamic industry. First up, we have some exciting news from Otomizer. According to an article by Mileva Sapic at Focuswire, Otomizer, an online travel agency ranking management platform, has raised $3 million in its first funding round. The financing is led by PitchDrive VC, an early stage venture capital firm that invests in technology startups. Founded in 2022, OTOP, Otomizer helps hoteliers and property managers increase their revenue by optimizing their listings on major booking platforms like booking.com, airbnb and Expedia. Automizer plans to use the new capital to grow its commercial team and work with 1000 hotels and 100,000 short term rentals worldwide. The company provides a solution that connects revenue management with with OTA ranking optimization to help properties secure top positions on OTAs while managing prices. According to Bart Jan Leitz, CEO and founder of Otomizer, the company's customers see their occupancy rates increase by an average of 11% and their profits increase by 24%. Next, let's talk about the latest trends in the US hotel market. Sean O' Neill from Skift reports that luxury hotels in the US have recently experienced robust growth in demand and room rates, while economy hotels have declined year over year. According to Costar Group, luxury hotel occupancy was up 1.8% while economy hotel occupancy was down 3.4% for the first five months of the year. Jan Freitag, national Director of Hospitality analytics at Costar Group, explains that today's economic pressures are impacting consumers differently across income levels. The higher end traveler and therefore the higher end hotels are showing robust growth in demand and room rate. In contrast, high inflation for essential expenses like housing, food and car payments is forcing lower income households to prioritize essential expenses or over discretionary travel. Despite the current trends, the forecast for the rest of the year remains positive. CBRE's latest forecast projects a 3% increase in revenue per available room on average for the rest of the year, driven by international tourists, summer travel and limited supply growth. However, continued economic growth is no sure thing and the industry is eyeing potential catalysts for growth, particularly in the economy segment.
